WWE: Looking at Bourne vs. Cara and the International Superstars in WWE

The Doctor Chris MuellerJun 28, 2011

Last night, the wrestling world was taken to its knees when CM Punk gave what is being called the best promo in years. But there were many more newsworthy events from last night that people have been glossing over due to the whole Punk situation.

Last night, the fans were given a chance to see the match they had actually voted for during the viewer's choice Raw last week.

The two high-flyers both got decent ovations during their entrance. This is a match that people have been waiting to see since Sin Cara was signed by WWE. Bourne and Cara actually faced off back when Cara was still Mistico, and when Bourne was Matt Sydal.

The two showcased all their signature moves during the match, with each trading off the offensive position. The match was set as a No Count-Out beforehand, and while they did venture outside the ring a couple times, they did not linger, which is good for the live audience since it would block almost half the audience from seeing them on the floor.

Cara looked to be taking things with Bourne a little quicker, and for good reason. Bourne wrestled for years using a similar fast-paced style.

If you wanted to see Lucha Libre wrestling in WWE, then this is as close as we are going to get, and it was a great match.

It was not an epic or unforgettable match, but pretty darn good. This makes me miss the WCW days when cruiserweights faced off regularly and they were one of the main attractions.

Now, whenever WWE gets a smaller guy, they always put them in David and Goliath situations, which makes for good drama, but not always good matches.

I really hope to see the WWE go further with Bourne and Cara, and maybe Averno if he is indeed joining WWE.

The international expansion by Vince McMahon has been going good so far. In the last two years, he has gained Del Rio and Cara from Mexico, Barrett from England, Mason Ryan from Wales, Mcintyre from Scotland, Sheamus from Ireland, Jinder Mahal from India, Primo from the Caribbean, Santino from Italy, Justin Gabriel from South Africa and Kozlov from Ukraine—and there are reports of Averno coming on board sometime soon.

The Usos have been getting some attention after their recent performance where they performed a Haka, a traditional Samoan dance during their entrance. They also had a great match after that, which didn't hurt.

The appeal WWE has had worldwide has always been huge, but now they are really sinking their teeth into the international markets and I think it is the best idea WWE has had in a long time.

I have already said that Yoshi is being misused and needs a decent push as a heel; his work in Japan as a heel was tremendous, and you can see some of that work on YouTube.

There is also, of course, the established stars from outside the US like Mysterio, Christian (Canadian's count), Kofi Kingston from Ghana, Ezekial Jackson from Guyana in South America, Khali from India, Natalya from Canada and Maryse from Canada (the French part). Tyson Kidd and DH Smith are both officially Canadians, but DH has English roots from his father Davey Boy Smith.

This makes for a total of 20 superstars who were born outside the US, the most I can remember in years. Keep in mind, some of these guys were born in one place, but are billed from another, so that's what I am going off of because it's the lineage that I am highlighting.

The WWE has fans all over the world, and their shows outside the US usually do very well because the fans don't get the chance to see them as often as us lucky Americans do.

I hope to see more international superstars in WWE soon, especially from the Asian market. Jinder Mahal is a nice addition, but I want to see some of the great talents Japan has to offer try their luck in a WWE ring.

It would also be nice to get some superstars from countries that have never produced any WWE superstars. Europe is still a huge market for wrestling and the WWE has always had some great talent from across the pond, but currently, I think the roster is in need of more Japanese wrestlers to add some new style to a product that has had little change in the last decade, other than the new PG direction.
