NBA Trades: Best Trade Made in the Last 10 Years of Every Team
There have been a lot of NBA trades over recent seasons that have really improved the outlook of clubs around the league.
With the wind of trade rumors constantly swirling around, it may be only a matter of time until we see the next blockbuster deal be consummated and superstars are switching places.
As the saying goes, Rome wasn't built in a day, and neither were the successes of the league's most competitive teams.
Let's take a look at the best trade for each club over the last decade.
Atlanta Hawks
1 of 30Trade: Atlanta receives SG Jamal Crawford from Golden State for PG Acie Law and SG Speedy Claxton.
The Hawks gave up virtually nothing in order to receive a prolific scoring option in Crawford, who has really anchored the scoring attack within the second unit.
It's pretty incredible that he was able to be had so cheaply given that the shooting guard has produced when given the opportunity, and this trade indicates a great heist for the Hawks.
Boston Celtics
2 of 30Trade: Boston receives Kevin Garnett from Minnesota for SF Ryan Gomes, SG Gerald Green, C Al Jefferson, C Theo Ratliff, PG Sebastian Telfair and 2009 first-round pick.
This one is rather simple: The acquisition of Kevin Garnett elevated the Celtics to the NBA Championship in 2008.
Despite the trade looking like a large haul for the T-Wolves, only Telfair remains on the team's roster, and that was after brief stops in Los Angeles and Cleveland.
The Celtics absolutely stole Garnett out of Minnesota, and Kevin McHale clearly did his former club a monumental favor.
Charlotte Bobcats
3 of 30Trade: Charlotte acquires SG Jason Richardson and draft rights to SF Jermareo Davidson from Golden State for draft rights to PF Brandan Wright.
Although Charlotte rostered J-Rich for just one full season, they really got more than expected when he averaged better than 20 points per game and played in all 82 contests.
He was traded for pennies on the dollar, as Brandan Wright simply hasn't blossomed into anything like the player that the Warriors thought him to be.
Chicago Bulls
4 of 30Trade: Chicago acquires draft rights to C Omer Asik from Portland, Portland receives second-round pick in 2009 from Denver and two future second-round picks from Chicago, Denver acquires draft rights to SF Sonny Weems from Chicago.
Although Chicago hasn't been terribly active on the trade market in recent seasons, the acquisition of Asik for Weems is looming very large as the Bulls' core comes together.
Asik provides legitimate size in the second unit for a Bulls team that has received inconsistent play from Carlos Boozer, and they're very high on the future of the big man moving forward.
Cleveland Cavaliers
5 of 30Trade: Cleveland acquires PG Baron Davis and 2011 No. 1 overall pick from Los Angeles Clippers for PG Mo Williams and SF Jamario Moon.
The Cavs obviously didn't know they would wind up with the top overall pick in the 2011 draft at the time they made the deal, but the gamble of taking on Baron Davis' massive contract paid off handsomely.
Cleveland is absolutely desperate to rebuild in the wake of LeBron James' departure, and this deal will only help them put a foot forward in establishing a team identity.
Dallas Mavericks
6 of 30Trade: Dallas acquires C Tyson Chandler and Alexis Ajinca from Charlotte for PF Eduardo Najera, SF Matt Carroll, C Erick Dampier and cash considerations.
The Dallas Mavericks moved three players that couldn't crack their rotation in exchange for the starting center on their 2011 championship club.
It's pretty incredible to imagine how unwanted of a commodity Chandler was after struggling through injury problems, and now as he enters free agency he'll be one of the most valuable assets on the market.
Denver Nuggets
7 of 30Trade: Denver acquires PG Raymond Felton, SF Danilo Gallinari, SF Wilson Chandler, C Timofey Mozgov, cash considerations, 2014 first-round pick, 2012 second-round pick and 2013 second-round pick from New York for SF Carmelo Anthony, PG Chauncey Billups, PG Anthony Carter, PF Shelden Williams and PF Renaldo Balkman. Minnesota acquires C Eddy Curry, PF Anthony Randolph and cash considerations from New York for SG Corey Brewer. Denver acquires C Kosta Koufos from Minnesota for 2015 second-round pick. Denver has the right to swap first-round picks with New York in 2016.
There are a lot of moving pieces to this three-team deal, and although the Nuggets sent their superstar packing, they really set themselves up for success in the future.
Although the trade has been heavily dissected since it originally went down, there is little doubt that the Nuggets did extremely well considering that they had to move Melo and just about everyone knew it.
Detroit Pistons
8 of 30Trade: Detroit acquires C Kelvin Cato and future first-round pick from Orlando for C Darko Milicic and PG Carlos Arroyo.
It might not be a blockbuster, but the Pistons did pretty well to acquire a future first-rounder in exchange for a couple of less than integral pieces.
Milicic is still trying to figure it out and live up to his draft slot, while Arroyo has bounced in and out of the NBA without finding a stable role on any roster.
Golden State Warriors
9 of 30Trade: Golden State acquires PF Al Harrington, SF Stephen Jackson, PG Sarunas Jasikevicius and PF Josh Powell from Indiana for PF Ike Diogu, PF Troy Murphy, SF Mike Dunleavy Jr. and PG Keith Mcleod.
The Warriors did well to bring in a ton of offense to the team in exchange for Murphy and an assorted pile of fillers that weren't an integral part of the club.
Although Jackson and Harrington weren't with the team for an extended period of time, they were able to turn out a solid return on their investment.
Houston Rockets
10 of 30Trade: Houston acquires SF Ron Artest, PG Sean Singletary and SF Patrick Ewing Jr. from Kings for PG Bobby Jackson, SF Donte Greene and future first-round pick.
The Rockets traded a couple of players that weren't a part of the plans moving forward and netted Artest in return, who really acted as the life blood of the offensive attack for the club.
Without a healthy Yao Ming, Artest was able to push the Lakers to seven games in the playoffs and proved that he had plenty left in the tank with a string of inspiring performances before being signed by Los Angeles.
Indiana Pacers
11 of 30Trade: Indiana acquires C Roy Hibbert, PG T.J. Ford, PF Maceo Boston and C Rasho Nesterovic from Toronto for C Jermaine O'Neal and C Nathan Jawai.
The Pacers turned the page on the Jermaine O'Neal era in an emphatic fashion by replacing him with the future starting man in the middle in Hibbert.
He's got the potential to be an absolutely dominant center in a league where size can be dominant, and the Raptors sold his rights for pennies on the dollar considering how O'Neal & Jawai panned out for the Raps.
Los Angeles Clippers
12 of 30Trade: Los Angeles acquires C Marcus Camby from Denver for the right to swap second-round picks in 2010.
This deal was basically a straight salary dump of Camby's contract on L.A., and the Clippers were more than happy to acquire the UMass product to give them some serious size down low.
Although the Clips didn't hold onto Camby for too long, he was instrumental in providing a defensive presence around the rim when they couldn't rely on anyone else to do so.
Los Angeles Lakers
13 of 30Trade: Los Angeles acquires PF Pau Gasol and 2010 second-round pick from Memphis for C Kwame Brown, PG Javaris Crittenton, SG Aaron McKie, C Marc Gasol, 2008 first-round pick and 2010 first-round pick.
This swap was virtually one Gasol brother for another, as the other pieces involved didn't make a major impact for the Grizzlies at any point.
While Marc has really blossomed into an excellent center for a very young Memphis club, Pau's arrival in Los Angeles helped the team usher in two more championships in the Kobe Bryant era.
Memphis Grizzlies
14 of 30Trade: Grizzlies acquire PF Zach Randolph from Los Angeles for SF Quentin Richardson.
It's absolutely unfathomable that these two players were swapped for one another, but it wasn't long ago that most were willing to write Z-Bo off as another undersized, overweight power forward.
Randolph has found a home in Memphis and has blossomed into the definition of an All-Star, and the team just rewarded him with a very handsome four-year, $71 million extension.
Miami Heat
15 of 30Trade: Miami acquires C Shaquille O'Neal from Los Angeles for SF Lamar Odom, PF Brian Grant, SF Caron Butler and future first-round pick.
The Heat were able to bring in O'Neal and win their first championship in franchise history as a result.
Despite the fact that they gave up a lot of talent in exchange for Shaq, an NBA Championship was absolutely priceless as it remains the only one that the Heat have ever won.
Milwaukee Bucks
16 of 30Trade: Milwaukee acquires SF Stephen Jackson, PG Shaun Livingston and PF Tobias Harris from Charlotte. Milwaukee acquires PG Beno Udrih from Sacramento. Charlotte acquires SF Corey Maggette from Milwaukee, Sacramento acquires SG John Salmons from Milwaukee.
The Bucks facilitated an excellent draft day trade that saw them take a large chunk of change off the books moving forward into the future.
The team reloaded at the point guard position in case they decide to explore a deal for PG Brandon Jennings and addressed the frontline with some talented youth in Tennessee product Tobias Harris.
Minnesota Timberwolves
17 of 30Trade: Minnesota acquires SF Michael Beasley from Miami for 2011 second-round pick and 2014 second-round pick.
The T-Wolves have been pretty heavily criticized over recent transactions, but they absolutely stole Beasley away from a Heat team that had grown tired of his antics.
Even if the team decides to flip him elsewhere with Derrick Williams now in the fold, there's no doubt that they will yield a positive return on investment.
New Jersey Nets
18 of 30Trade: Nets acquire PG Deron Williams from Utah for PG Devin Harris, PF Derrick Favors, 2011 first-round pick and 2012 first-round pick and cash considerations.
The Nets made one of the biggest splashes of the trade deadline in recent memory when they swung a deal for All-Star Deron Williams that almost nobody saw coming.
They're going to have to do a lot of convincing in order to keep him in the fold long-term, but if they can get him to sign an extension with the club, this is going to be a major win for the new-look Nets.
New Orleans Hornets
19 of 30Trade: New Orleans acquires C Emeka Okafor from Charlotte for C Tyson Chandler.
The Hornets were not satisfied with the presence in the middle that Chandler was providing, so they swapped him out for a legitimate presence down low in Emeka Okafor.
Although Okafor hasn't quite developed the offensive game that many had expected him to, he has been an excellent defender and been a stable source of contribution for a Hornets team that needs every member to contribute.
New York Knicks
20 of 30Trade: Denver acquires PG Raymond Felton, SF Danilo Gallinari, SF Wilson Chandler, C Timofey Mozgov, cash considerations, 2014 first-round pick, 2012 second-round pick & 2013 second-round pick from New York for SF Carmelo Anthony, PG Chauncey Billups, PG Anthony Carter, PF Shelden Williams and PF Renaldo Balkman.
It's not too often that a deal of this magnitude winds up as a win-win for both sides, but the Knicks desperately needed a superstar to pair with Amar'e Stoudemire and got him in Anthony.
Melo is going to be a very large asset for the club moving forward, and if they can bring in another star to facilitate the offense (i.e. Chris Paul), the Knicks could blossom into an extraordinarily dangerous team.
Oklahoma City Thunder
21 of 30Trade: Oklahoma City acquires PG Eric Maynor, SF Matt Harpring from Utah for PF Peter Fehse.
The Thunder were able to absorb Harpring's contract even though he was unable to play, but they were greatly rewarded in acquiring Maynor for a power forward that has never played in the league.
Although the transaction flew under the radar for a while, there's no doubting Maynor's importance to a youthful Thunder team as the facilitator that anchors the second unit.
Orlando Magic
22 of 30Trade: Orlando acquires SG Jason Richardson, SF Hedo Turkoglu and PF Earl Clark from Phoenix for SG Vince Carter, C Marcin Gortat, SG Mickael Pietrus, 2011 first-round pick and cash considerations.
Otis Smith hasn't been afraid of gambling in the past, and he took a giant leap of faith when he pulled the trigger on this trade.
Smith's tenure as the team's general manager has largely been defined by his constant wheeling and dealing, so it wouldn't be surprising to see him attempt to one-up this deal in the upcoming season.
Philadelphia 76ers
23 of 30Trade: Philadelphia acquires PG Andre Miller, PF Joe Smith and two 2007 first-round picks from Denver for PG Allen Iverson and F Ivan McFarlin.
The Sixers got a large haul for Allen Iverson when they decided that it was in the best interest of both parties to enter into a divorce, and it's clear that the team had the right idea.
Iverson's career was never really the same once he left Philly, and although they didn't receive a boatload of talent in return, the swap still set the team up for better long-term success than they would've had with Iverson still on the roster.
Phoenix Suns
24 of 30Trade: Phoenix acquires SG Jason Richardson, SF Jared Dudley and 2010 second-round pick from Charlotte for PF Boris Diaw, SG Raja Bell and PG Sean Singletary.
The Suns put themselves on the map with this heist of a trade, acquiring both talent and youth in exchange for veterans that had no place in the team's long-term outlook.
Dudley has proven to be a very integral member of the team's attack, as he and Diaw are the only players involved still playing for the teams that they were originally shipped to in this swap.
Portland Trail Blazers
25 of 30Trade: Portland acquires draft rights to SG Brandon Roy from Minnesota for draft rights to PG Randy Foye.
Minnesota has been at the wrong end of a lot of deals in the past, but this one is an absolutely epic fail for a T-Wolves team that really swung and missed big time.
Despite the chronic knee woes that Roy now suffers from, the Wolves could have really used his All-Star skills over the last few seasons and could have really enjoyed greater success with Roy in the fold.
Sacramento Kings
26 of 30Trade: Sacramento acquires SG Marcus Thornton and cash from New Orleans for PF Carl Landry.
The Kings already had a very crowded frontcourt, and they absolutely stole Thornton away from a Hornets team that didn't want to have him as an integral contributor in the lineup.
Thornton began lighting up the net as soon as he arrived in the capital of California, and he's likely to be a major piece of the team's future plans moving forward.
San Antonio Spurs
27 of 30Trade: San Antonio acquires draft rights to SF Kawhi Leonard, draft rights to SF Davis Bertans and draft rights to PF Erazem Lorbek from Indiana for PG/SG George Hill.
Many expected the Spurs to trade Tony Parker before shipping Hill, but the club saw an opportunity to get younger without having to deal an All-Star and jumped all over it.
Bertans is a sweet shooting prospect who will pay major dividends for the Spurs in time, while Leonard will begin to show why he was so highly regarded immediately. It's especially important to note that San Antonio rarely ever misses on draft picks.
Toronto Raptors
28 of 30Trade: Toronto acquires SG Leandro Barbosa and PF Dwayne Jones from Phoenix for SF Hedo Turkoglu.
This transaction is all about addition by subtraction as the Raptors were absolutely desperate to move Turkoglu after they realized that the overpaid veteran wasn't working out with the team.
It's incredible that they were able to net something of value out of the deal in Barbosa, who has proven to be a nice scoring punch off of the bench capable of playing with either the first or second unit.
Utah Jazz
29 of 30Trade: Utah acquires C Al Jefferson from Minnesota for C Kosta Koufos, 2011 first-round pick and a future first-round pick.
Al Jefferson's knee concerns caused him to be sold for pennies on the dollar, and Utah wisely snatched him off the market while his value was at an all-time low.
He has shown to be an excellent option in the middle for a Jazz team that has lacked an inside presence for too long, and he's done more for the team than either of those first-round draft picks could have.
Washington Wizards
30 of 30Trade: Washington acquires PG Mike Bibby, SG Mo Evans, SG Jordan Crawford and 2011 first-round pick from Atlanta for PG Kirk Hinrich and C Hilton Armstrong.
The Wizards reached a buyout agreement with Bibby shortly after he was traded, but the real prize for the team was shedding Hinrich's big contract and bringing in a dynamic young talent in Crawford.
Washington set themselves up nicely for the future with a backcourt of John Wall and Crawford for the foreseeable future, and the first-round pick turned out to be an excellent defender in FSU's Chris Singleton.
