UFC Live on Versus 4 Results: Brenneman Mounts Upset, Kongo Flattens Barry
Tonight, UFC Live on Versus 4 will bring MMA fans one of the most stacked preliminary cards of the year. Unfortunately, the event's main card took a hit prior to the weigh-ins when it was announced Nate Marquardt had been removed from his fight with Rick Story and released from the UFC, but the show must go on.
Charlie Brenneman has stepped into replace Marquardt, while a heavyweight clash between Cheick Kongo and Pat Barry has been moved to serve as the main event of the evening. A number of other notables such as Matt Mitrione, Tyson Griffin, Joe Stevenson, Manny Gamburyan and Charles Oliveira will also compete on the card.
Bleacher Report's Sean Smith will be cageside for the event to bring you up-to-the-minute results and play-by-play from all of the night's action. Coverage will begin at approximately 6:00 pm ET from the Consol Energy Center in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania.
Michael Johnson vs. Edward Faaloloto
1 of 11Johnson plays to the home crowd, waving a Terrible Towel as he walks to the cage.
Round 1
Faaloloto lands an inside leg kick and then tags Johnson with a right.
Johnson answers with a left hook of his own, but is pressed up against the cage. Johnson reverses positions and drops down to complete a double leg takedown.
Faaloloto lands a knee as he escapes. A Johnson body kick is answered with a body kick and leg kick from Faalotloto.
Johnson cracks Faaloloto with a right and then presses forward with a nice combination. Johnson is bloodied above his left eye, though.
Johnson lands and then takes the fight to the ground with a body lock. Faaloloto escapes shortly after, though.
Johnson wobbles Falo with a left and looks to land knees from the clinch. A knee to the body hurts Faaloloto and then Johnson drops his opponent with a left. Johnson pounces and finishes the fight with hammerfists.
Johnson defeats Faaloloto by technical knockout (punches) at 4:42 of the first round.
Ricardo Lamas vs. Matt Grice
2 of 11Round 1
Lamas starts the action with an inside leg kick. A switch kick is blocked by Grice. Grice presses forward, but Lamas blocks everything.
Lamas drops down for a double leg, but switches to a single to take Grice down. Lamas transitions to side control, but lets Grice stand.
Grice lands a hard left hook with about one minute remaining in the round. Lamas staggers Grice with a left head kick and then drops his opponent with a straight right. Grice was practically already out on his feet and the referee is forced to step in as he hits the canvas.
Lamas defeats Grice by technical knockout (punches) at 4:41 of the first round.
Nike Lentz vs. Charles Oliveira

An Oliveira leg kick is answered by a right hook from Lentz. Lentz grabs a single leg nad trips Oliveira. Oliveira's guard is very active and he nearly secures a knee bar.
Lentz stands, though, and allows Oliveira to do the same. Oliveira clinches and lands a knee. An inside leg kick lands for Oliveira, who defends a takedown and lands another knee to the body.
Oliveira attempts an hip toss, but Lentz defends. Oliveira drops Lentz and then looks to finish him with a D'Arce choke, but Lentz fights out of it and looks for a guillotine of his own with one minute left in the round.
Oliveira fights it off and uses a hip toss to wind up in full mount. Oliveira blasts Lentz with an elbow as the round comes to an end.

Round 2
Oliveira lands a flying knee, but Lentz grabs his opponent's leg and takes the fight to the ground. Oliveira looks for triangle and uses it to sweep Lents.
Lentz attempts a guillotine, but Oliveira fights it off and lands a knee to the head of Lentz. Lentz is hurt and Oliveira uses it to finish the fight with a rear anked choke. The replay shows that Lentz was on a knee when the knee was landed.
The crowd is letting the referee hear it with chants of "bull s--t."
Oliveira defeats Lentz by rear naked choke at 1:48 of the second round.
Joe Rogan says the commission will be looking into overturning the result of this fight. Quite an unfortunate ending to what had been an excellent fight.
Daniel Roberts vs. Rich Attonito

Two Roberts head kicks are blocked by Attonito. Roberts clinches and lands a knee. Roberts slips on a body kick and Attonito jumps on him with a hard left as he stands.
Attonito defends a takedown. Roberts keeps looking to lands a left head kick, but Attonito sees it coming all day.
Roberts attempts a flying knee and a superman punch, but nothing lands. Attonito goes for a single leg, but Roberts defends and cracks Attonito with a left.
Attonito sprawls and takes Roberts' back with a nearside cradle. Roberts rolls into full guard as the round comes to an end.
B/R scores the 10-9 round Attonito.
Round 2
Roberts looks to take Attonito down early to start the round. He finally does with a body lock from behind and is looking to secure a rear naked choke.
Attonito escapes and frees himself out the backdoor to wind up on top in half guard. Attonito moves to side control with two-and-a-half minutes left in the round.
Roberts regains full guard, but Attonito is teeing off with body punches. The round comes to an end in uneventful fashion with Attonito on top.
B/R scores the round 10-9 Attonito.
Round 3
Attonito lands a head kick and then a hard right hand. Roberts is backpeddling and Attonito lands a punch to the body. Attonito is teeing off with leg kicks now and cracks Roberts with a right hand.
Another striagiht right lands for Attonito, who has Roberts on his heels. Attonito drops Roberts with a head kick and nearly finishes the fight with punches.
Roberts survives and stands, though, but he is still hurt and desperately dives in for a takedown. Attonito lands another straight right and another. A flurry could end it, but there's no reason for Attonito to risk anything, as he is up by two rounds on the scorecards.
Attonito hurts Roberts with a left hook and a right causes the Cesar Gracie student's eyes to roll back. Attonito secures a takedown and the fight comes to an end.

Joe Lauzon vs. Curt Warburton

Boxing match early on, but neither is landing anything significant. Warburton scores with a body kick, but Lauzon presses forward and drops Warburton with a left hook. After some ground-and-pound, Lauzon secures a nasty kimura that forces a tap.
Lauzon defeats Warburton by submission (kimura) at 1:58 of the first round.
Joe Stevenson vs. Javier Vazquez
6 of 11Round 1
Vazquez takes Stevenson down quickly, but Stevenson is looking to lock up an armbar. Now, Stevenson is slowly working to transition to an omoplata, but Vazquez escapes.
Stevenson body locks and is staring at the referee to stand the fight up. Eventually, the referee gives in to Stevenson's demands.
Vazquez scores with an overhand left and follows through with a double leg that puts Stevenson on his back.
B/R scores the round 10-9 Vazquez.
Round 2
Vazquez is keeping Stevenson at the end of his jab to start this round. Stevenson lands a left hook, though.
Stevenson shoots in for a single leg, but Vazquez uses it for what appears to be a deep guillotine attempt, which Stevenson fights off.
The fight goes to the ground and Vazquez takes Stevenson's back with hooks in. Stevenson escapes with less than a minute left in the round, though.
B/R scores the round 10-9 Vazquez.
Round 3
Stevenson needs to make something happen. His job with the UFC may depend on it.
Vazquez lands a straight left. Stevenson keeps going to his overhand right, but Vazquez continues ducking it with ease.
Stevenson is coming forward now, but nothing is landing for him. Stevenson lands an inside leg kick, but he needs a finish.
Vazquez lands a right hand and Stevenson smiles. Really sloppy stuff from Stevenson, as he walks in with his hands outstretched in an attempt to clinch.
This might be the last time we see Stevenson in the Octagon.

Tyson Griffin vs. Manny Gamburyan
7 of 11Tyson Griffin comes out to the Rocky theme. He, like Joe Stevenson, may be in need of a win tonight in order to remain with the UFC. More boos rain down on referee Chip Snyder, who officiated the fight between Charles Oliveira and Nik Lentz.
Round 1
Griffin stalking Gamburyan early and doing a nice job of cutting off the cage. Gamburyan ducks a hook, though, and secures a double leg takedown.
Griffin wall walks and shoots in for a double leg. Gamburyan defends and takes Griffin down with a body lock. Gamburyan takes Griffin's back briefly before Griffin escapes and is pressed against the cage.
More clinch work with one minute remaining in the round, which has to be leaning in Gamburyan's favor at this point. Griffin drops down for a single leg, but Gamburyan defends.
B/R scores the round 10-9 Gamburyan.
Round 2
Griffin is cornering his opponent and landing leg kicks, but Gamburyan returns with some looping hooks to the head.
Gamburyan throws another haymaker. Griffin ducks it and looks to secure double underhooks, but Gamburyan backs out.
Gamburyan shoots in for a double leg now, but Griffin defends easily. Griffin connects with a jumping left hook and Gamburyan catches a left kick, but does nothing with it.
Griffin lands a kick to the groin and action comes to a halt. Griffin is definitely the aggressor on the restart, but lands another kick to the groin.
B/R scores the round 10-10.
Round 3
Gamburyan is swinging for the fences, but Griffin catches a body kick and knocks Gamburyan off balance with a right hand.
A relative off Griffin is sitting directly behind me and screaming her lungs out for Griffin to keep up the pressure.
Griffin lands a right hand, but Gamburyan shoots in for a double leg and presses Griffin to the fence. Gamburyan lifts and slams Griffin to the canvas, but Griffin bounces right back up. Griffin executes a duckunder and takes Gamburyans back.
Griffin begins teeing off on a turtled Gamburyan, but Gamburyan gets back to his feet. Griffin lands a hard leg kick and Gamburyan's lead leg is showing some wear and tear.
B/R scores the round 10-9 (29-29 Draw).
Griffin defeats Gamburyan by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
No argument here. I could have easily seen the second round going in Griffin's favor.
Matt Mitrione vs. Christian Morecraft
8 of 11As Mitrione enters the Octagon, Morecraft approaches him and the two fighters exchange words. The some some bad blood between these two fighters.
Round 1
Mitrione is finding a home for his inside leg kicks early on. Morecraft is looking to counter them with a straight right.
Morecraft presses forward and Mitrione clips him with a straight right. Morecrafts nose is bloodied, but he is still coming forward.
Morecraft scores with a left hook-straaght right combinations. Mitrione fires right back, though. These big men are slugging it out.
Mitrione wobbles Morecraft with a left and then drops him with another. Mitrione pounces on Morecraft, but is quickly reversed.
B/R scores the round 10-9 Mitrione.
Round 2
Mitrione counters a Morecraft combination with a left hook. Chants of "Meathead" from the crowd.
Morecraft ducks a left head kick, but Mitrione follows up with a straight left. Morecraft dives in for a double leg and takes Mitrione down.
Mitrione wall walks, but Morecraft puts him right back on the canvas with authority. Morecraft isn't doing much from the top position, though, and the referee stands the fight up.
An inside leg kick and straight left land for Mitrione. Morecraft shoots for a double leg with his head down and Mitrione tosses him to the ground.
Mitrione right to the temple and straight left that dislodges Morecrafts mouthpiece. Morecraft tumbles to the ground and Mitrione walks away as the referee steps in.
Mitrione defeats Morecraft by knockout (punches) at 4:28 of the second round.
According to Compustrike, Mitrione outlanded Morecraft 38-4 in total power strikes. Morecraft was able to take Mitrione down three times, but it only led to six non-power ground strikes.

John Howard vs. Matt Brown
9 of 11John Howard comes in waving the Terrible Towel.
Round 1
Howard comes out chopping at Brown's lead leg. Howard catches a body kick and tries to pull guard, but Brown steps out of it.
Howard continues to attack the lead leg of Brown, but "The Immortal" answers back with a head kick. Brown drops down for a single leg, but he may be eating more punches than it is worth as he continues to try to get the fight to the ground.
Howard tries to bait Brown into his guard. Brown obliges and looks for a D'Arce choke, but Howard escapes and slams Brown with a single leg.
Both fighters scored plenty of points in that round.
B/R scores the round 10-10.
Round 2
Howard's leg kicks are beginning to take effect, as Brown is knocked off balance. Brown shoots in for a double leg, but Howard defends nicely.
Howard presses Brown against the cage and drops down for a takedown. Brown trips Howard, but it looks like Howard is trying to bait Brown into going to the ground again.
"Here we go Steelers" rains down on the Octagon.
Howard dives on a leg lock attempts. Brown slips out of it, but Howard winds up on top. Brown is looking for an omoplata with seconds remaining.

Round 3
Howard is pressing the action now, but Brown takes advantage of the aggression and secures a dobule leg takedown.
Howard wall walks and is looking for a way to latch onto Brown's neck. Howard takes Brown's back in a standing position with one hook in.
Howard backpeddles and gets caught with a straight right. Howard secures a double leg and takes Brown to the canvas.
B/R scores the round 10-9 Howard (29-29 Draw).
All three round were close, so I'm very interested to see how the scoring goes for this one.
Brown defeats Howard by unanimous decision (29-28, 29-28, 29-28).
According to Compustrike, Brown outlanded Howard 21-1 in total power strikes and 109-22 in total strikes.
Rick Story vs. Charlie Brenneman
10 of 11Brenneman is pumped up and the crowd is behind him, but he has his hands full with Story. The roof will blow off the Consol Energy Center if he wins.
The energy is palpable right now. Both fighters have been staring each other down since Story entered the cage.
Round 1
Story tosses Brenneman, but Brenneman quickly regains his footing. Brenneman clinches and presses Story to the cage.
Chants of "Spaniard" from the crowd.
Story reverses position and lands a right hand. Both fighters swing and Brenneman shoots in for a single leg. Brenneman lands a right hand as he releases Story's leg.
Brenneman secures a takedown and moves to side control. Story regains full guard, but he is in danger of losing the round with less than two minutes remaining.
Methodical and effective ground-and-pound from Brenneman with less than a minute remaining in the round now.
B/R scores the round 10-9 Brenneman.
Round 2
Brenneman lands a right and takes Story down early in the round. Story is working on a guillotine from half guard.
Brenneman moves to north-south to escape the submission and both fighters stand. Brenneman distracts Story with an overhand right and secure another double leg takedown. That sequence seems to be working well for Brenneman.
Story body locks and looks for a stand up. Brenneman could be on his way to another 10-9 round win with less than a minute left.
"Here we go Spaniard" chants from the crowd a la the earlier chants of "Here we go Steelers."

Round 3
Story meets Brenneman is "The Spaniard's" corner and is bringing the heat early. Story takes Brenneman's back with one hook in and is looking to slide the second one in.
Story was looking for a kimura, but the referee stands the fighters up.
Brenneman is on his heels. He dives in for a takedown, but Story is looking for a triangle. Two minutes left, but Brenneman might be in trouble here.
Brenneman escapes, though, and slides out the back door. Story is all over him and takes full mount. Story is landing shoulder strikes, but he needs a finish with one minute remaining.
Brenneman frees himself and ends up on top. What an upset and the crowd erupts.

Props to Story for signing autographs on his way to the tunnel after a heartbreaking loss.

Cheick Kongo vs. Pat Barry

No touching gloves here. All business.
Round 1
Barry lands the first of what might be many leg kicks. Kongo says, "Hey I can do that too." Antoher thudding leg kick from Kongo.
I get the feeling both fighters want to make a statement with their kickboxing in this fight.
Barry checks a leg kick and drops the Frenchman with a right hook. Kongo looks to be in deep trouble, but he lands a right hook to the temple and another short right, which knocks Barry unconscious.
Barry is still unconscious right in front of me. As I type that he sits up, but I'm not sure he knows where he is.
Kongo defeats Barry by knockout at 2:39 (punch) of the first round.
