Bellator 46 Results: Marlon Sandro and the 4 Featherweight Semifinalists

Sean SmithJun 25, 2011

The latest Bellator Featherweight Tournament began at Bellator 46 with all four quarterfinal matchups. The eventual tournament champion will meet the winner of a July fight between Bellator Featherweight Champion Joe Warren and Patricio Freire.

In an exciting night of fights, four competitors moved on to the tournament semifinals. Let's take some time to look at the four semifinalists.

Ronnie Mann

1 of 4

After dropping Adam Schindler with a left hook, Ronnie Mann finished his opponent at Bellator 46 with hammerfists to move on to the semifinals of the Bellator Featherweight Tournament.

Mann has won eight of his last nine fights and has experience in the tournament format. In 2009, Mann made it to the second round of the Sengoku Featherweight Grand Prix, where he was submitted by Hatsu Hioki.

Nazareno Malegarie

2 of 4

After nearly submitting Jacob DeVree with a guillotine choke early on in the fight and with multiple other submission attempts along the way, Nazareno Malegarie finally forced DeVree to tap with another guillotine choke in the third round.

Malegarie now holds an outstanding professional record of 20-1. The lone loss of Malegarie's career came earlier this year in the first round of another Bellator Featherweight Tournament against Daniel Straus.

Marlon Sandro

3 of 4

It wasn't as lopsided a win as some may have expected, but Marlon Sandro picked Genair da Silva apart on his feet in order to move on in the Bellator Featherweight Tournament.

With Hatsu Hioki being signed by the world's largest MMA organization earlier today, Sandro is now widely considered the best featherweight outside of the UFC. At 18-2, Sandro's only losses have come by decision against Hioki and Michihiro Omigawa.

Pat Curran

4 of 4

After losing to Bellator Lightweight Champion Eddie Alvarez in a title fight at Bellator 39, Pat Curran decided to make the cut to featherweight for the Bellator Featherweight Tournament.

Curran came out strong against Luis Palomino, rocking his opponent in the first round. Then, after attempting a D'Arce choke, Curran transitioned to a Peruvian necktie.

Palomino was quickly forced to tap at 3:49 of the first round, which moved Curran into the tournament semifinals.
