WWE: Chavo Guerrero's 5 Greatest Moments in WWE (With Video)

Robert AitkenJun 25, 2011

Chavo Guerrero asked for his release from WWE today, ending a 10-year relationship with the company.

Over that span, Chavo has held the Cruiserweight Championship four times, was a two-time tag team champion with his uncle, the late Eddie Guerrero, and won the ECW Championship.

Chavo's departure marks the end for one of WCW's greatest assests: the Cruiserweight division. Guerrero was one of the best cruiserweight wrestlers in the last two decades, winning gold in the division six times between WWE and WCW.

While never achieving much success outside of the cruiserweight division, Chavo was a constant professional throughout, using his skill and the Guerrero name to help teach the young guys below him.

Chavo may be turning 41 in October, but he is still in phenomenal shape and cited reasons via Twitter that he was unhappy about having to put younger talent over and lose at the same time.

It is fair to say that, given his ability and track record, Chavo was one of the most underutilized talents in WWE today.

Instead of being upset about him leaving, it is much better to look back at Chavo's tenure in WWE and find some of the best moments that Chavo has been a part of over the last decade.

Chavo and Uncle Eddie

1 of 5

Not just his friend outside of the ring, Chavo's uncle Eddie Guerrero was his tag team partner.

As Los Guerreros, Chavo would adopt Eddie's "Lie, Cheat, Steal" motto. First starting off as a heel tag team, Los Guerreros would turn face as Eddie and Chavo became fan favorites.

The team would win tag team titles on two separate occasions.

On this particular night, Eddie and Chavo were faces and tag team champs, facing a heel in John Cena and B-2 (Bull Buchanan). This is a perfect example of how well the two were as a tag team and showed Chavo at his best.

Also, keep a look out after the match for the debut of Redd Dogg, who would later become Rodney Mack.

Same Old Chavo

Chavo and Eddie would eventually split up from one another. Chavo would wish to separate himself from the Guerrero name and turn into Kerwin White, a white stereotype character.

Kerwin White would have a sweater tied around his chest and drive to the ring in a golf cart. It would also lead to the first we ever saw from Nic Nemeth (now known as Dolph Ziggler).

The gimmick seemed like a dead end for Chavo and a release seemed imminent, until the shocking events of November 13, 2005. Eddie would pass away that day, and it suddenly became important to Chavo to keep Eddie Guerrero's memory alive by re-adopting the Guerrero mind and spirit.

This match with JBL embodies the resurgence that Chavo had (he still had the blonde hair from Kerwin White) and the spirit that Eddie brought to the ring.

Chavo Makes Rey Say "I Quit"

Eddie Guerrero's death also led to Chavo's greatest feud in WWE.

Eddie's great friend, Rey Mysterio, would use the momentum of Eddie's death to become an unexpected world champion. It was that aspect that fueled this rivalry.

Chavo believed that Mysterio used his uncle's legacy to rise up the ranks. Personally speaking, if anyone should have had that rise, it probably should have been Chavo himself. But I digress...

Chavo and Mysterio would have two "I Quit" matches in their rivalry, the only matchup to occur twice in the history of WWE "I Quit" matches. This clip is from one of those two matches, which Chavo won.

Chavo was so destructive in this match and was about as ruthless as it gets in an "I Quit" match.

Chavo's Pursuit of Cruiserweight Gold

4 of 5

Chavo Guerrero was always in pursuit of the Cruiserweight Championship, which he won on six occassions in his career, four times with WWE.

Whether it was Hornswoggle, Gregory Helms, Spike Dudley or any of the other cruiserweights, Chavo was always striving to be the best. The six reigns were the third most of anyone behind just Rey Mysterio and Billy Kidman.

Chavo Guerrero always put a heck of a match on, especially when he was with a fellow cruiserweight. This match between Chavo and then-champion Paul London at Judgment Day 2006 was a perfect example of that.

Despite losing the match, Chavo made the fans the true winners by telling such a great story.

Chavo Goes Extreme

The final championship that Chavo Guerrero would hold in WWE would be the ECW Championship.

Chavo would pop up on ECW at the end of 2007 and challenged CM Punk for a potential title shot. After a few chances, he finally earned a title shot and won a no-disqualification match on January 22, 2008. Thanks to Edge's spear on Punk, Chavo would win a world championship for the only time in his career.

Chavo would hold the belt for 68 days, losing the championship to Kane at WrestleMania XXIV.
