WWE: What's Next for Chavo Guerrero After Being Released?

The Doctor Chris MuellerJun 25, 2011

News broke recently that Chavo Guerrero had been released from his WWE contract following his request to be released.

I am so happy for Chavo because I know he deserves better treatment than he has received in the WWE.

I have always been one of those guys who likes pure wrestling over big, flashy wrestling. Chavo is a purist wrestler at heart, and that is why he never went any further in the WWE than he did, in my opinion.

Anyone who was a fan during Chavo's time with WCW knows that he is just as talented in the ring as any other cruiserweight.  He has been training his entire life and has reached the point at which he can make anyone look better in the ring than they really are.

Chavo is a technician first and foremost, but that does not mean the Mexican Warrior is not capable of high-flying moves as well.

During one memorable Smackdown, Chavo came out in full Rey Mysterio gear and proceeded to have a match in which he pulled out all of Mysterio's signature moves, and in some cases pulled them off better than Mysterio himself.

Many people would disregard Chavo as never being quite as good as his uncle, Eddie—not true.

He is just as good a wrestler as anyone in the world—his character and mic skills are what is falling behind some of the other members of his massive family.

Chavo has never been known for his ability to cut a scathing promo, but his comedic chops were enough for the WWE to keep him around this long.

It was even rumored that he would be revealed as the man behind Jack Swagger's Eagle costume. This never came to be, though, as Swagger was moved out of that terrible gimmick not long after it started.

I am hoping for Chavo to find his home at a promotion that will recognize that you don't have to sell the most wristbands and t-shirts to be a featured performer.

Chavo could easily find success in TNA or ROH, but I think he would be best served in AAA or even in Japan with NJPW.

MVP has said he is very happy wrestling in Japan, and he has even won his first title already—perhaps his former co-worker could join him over in the land of sushi and geishas to find some prestige again.

I look forward to seeing where Chavo's career goes from here because he is one of those guys that could have a five-star match with anyone on his same level of skill.

What do you think? Will Chavo thrive or fail outside of the WWE?
