Fernando Tatis wins the NL Comeback Player of the Year Award!
Mets outfielder Fernando Tatis, who was out of baseball for more than a year earlier this decade before rejuvenating his career this season, was named the NL's Comeback Player of the Year by a vote of his fellow players.
Tatis, who hit .292 with 11 homers and 47 RBIs in 92 games for the Amazin's this season, was chosen over the Marlins' Jorge Cantu and Kerry Wood of the Cubs. The award was decided by a league-wide vote of players by Topps and the Major League Baseball Players Association.
Indians pitcher Cliff Lee, who appears likely to win the AL Cy Young award, was named MLBPA's AL Comeback Player of the Year.
Tatis missed much of the final month of the regular season with a separated shoulder but is expected to be fully recovered for the start of spring training.
