NFL Trade Rumors: 6 Quarterbacks on the Move and Their Likely Destinations

Tony SantorsaJun 22, 2011

The 2011 NFL free agency period may be one for the ages, as many teams will scramble to address their major needs in such a shortened offseason due to the NFL lockout.

As players and owners continue to talk, many reports have indicated that a new agreement will be in place within the next two weeks, so now is the time to speculate potential trades and free agent transactions.

Here are five available quarterbacks and where their likely destinations will be.

Remember, these are all speculations and many of these will not happen—but there is a significant chance.

Donovan McNabb

1 of 6

Likely destination: Tennessee Titans

The Tennessee Titans may have found their future quarterback in Jake Locker, but he is no means ready to lead their team to any success during his rookie season.

Donovan McNabb is likely on his way out of Washington, and the Titans need a veteran presence at the quarterback position. McNabb will not only give the Titans a chance to win from week-to-week, but he'll be a quality mentor for the young Locker.

McNabb's numbers last season as a Redskin were arguably poor, as he tossed 14 touchdowns and was picked off 15 times, but he's still an above average quarterback and can still perform at a high level.

If the Titans were to trade for McNabb, they'd be acquiring a strong-armed quarterback who is mobile and has loads of experience. In my opinion, McNabb would gel very well with running back Chris Johnson—not to mention he'd give Johnson some much needed support.

Matt Hasselbeck

2 of 6

Likely destination: Cleveland Browns

We all know that quarterback Matt Hasselbeck has a very close relationship with Cleveland Browns President Mike Holmgren, so the Browns acquiring Hasselbeck via free agency makes perfect sense.

The Browns are a very young football team that needs some veteran leadership, especially at the quarterback position. Cleveland's future quarterback, Colt McCoy, may not be ready to take complete control of the Browns offense, so adding a veteran like Hasselbeck would certainly be beneficial.

Granted, the Browns already have Jake Delhomme and Seneca Wallace under contract, but Hasselbeck would likely give all of the quarterbacks a run for their money as the team's starting quarterback.

Kevin Kolb

3 of 6

Likely destination: Minnesota Vikings

The Minnesota Vikings selected Christian Ponder with the 12th overall selection in this year's past draft, but he is no means ready to start as the team's quarterback.

It's clear that Michael Vick is the starting quarterback in Philadelphia and that Kevin Kolb will likely be on the move—and the Vikings appear to be the best match.

As of right now, the Vikings will likely roll out Tarvaris Jackson as the team's starting quarterback but, if Kolb were to be acquired, he'd be the team's front-runner.

Kolb is signed through 2011 and we all know how much teams love expiring contracts.

Kyle Orton

Likely destination: Arizona Cardinals

Kyle Orton to the Arizona Cardinals is one possible trade that will likely happen.

Orton being shipped off to the Cards makes perfect sense—I mean Orton has been seen working out with Arizona's superstar wide receiver Larry Fitzgerald during the lockout.

The Arizona Cardinals desperately need a quarterback as Derek Anderson, Max Hall and John Skelton are simply not NFL starters—they're serviceable back-ups.

Orton already has a solid relationship with Fitzgerald, and he'd likely put up huge numbers as a member of the Cardinals—it's just a matter of Arizona offering the right package for the Denver Broncos.

Carson Palmer

5 of 6

Likely destination: Seattle Seahawks

Carson Palmer to the Seattle Seahawks could be a reunion for the ages as he'll be reunited with his former college coach, Pete Carroll.

Palmer and Carroll will attempt to revert back to their college glory days at USC, and I am sure Palmer would without a doubt approve this trade.

Earlier this offseason, Palmer made it publicly clear that he wants out of Cincinnati or he'll simply retire—and Seattle appears to be the best destination for all parties.

Palmer's production has been down as of late, as he's thrown 33 interceptions over the past two seasons, but I'm sure that once he steps foot back into Carroll's offensive system, he'll likely flourish.

Vince Young

6 of 6

Likely destination: Miami Dolphins

The Miami Dolphins have said that Chad Henne is the starting quarterback right now, but that may change sometime soon.

I'm predicting that the Dolphins will give Henne one more shot at being the team's starting quarterback in 2011, but bringing in a player like Vince Young wouldn't be such a bad thing.

Young would definitely create a heated quarterback competition down in South Beach—and who knows, it may bring the best out of at least one of them, and then Miami has found their starting quarterback for the next couple of seasons.

The Tennessee Titans still have Young under contract, but it's almost certain that their marriage is over and he'll be traded once the lockout is lifted.

Young would be a perfect fit in Miami's offensive system as it's a run-heavy offense that uses a lot of roll-outs and fake hand-offs—something that a mobile quarterback like Young would flourish in.
