WWE: 13 Finishing Moves That Really Shouldn't Be Finishers
Hello folks! Welcome to another slideshow.
I’ve been a bit review happy as of late, so I thought I’d do this for a bit of variety.
This time, I am looking at moves that really shouldn’t be classed as finishers.
This does not include ones that people think look horrendous.
For example, many people think the Clothesline from Hell by JBL was a horrendous finishing move, but you won’t find it on here because it looks like it hurts like hell—it looks devastating.
This includes finishing manoeuvres that look like they don’t hurt—at least not enough to result in a pin.
Anyway, sit back, relax and enjoy the read!
The Cobra: Santino Marella
1 of 14Remember the Fingerpoke of Doom that led to the downfall of WCW?
Well, meet its long lost brother the Cobra. All it consists of is a poke to the chest.
Santino makes the move even more stupid with all the theatrics preceding it.
It's beggars belief that he has actually won matches with this move.
There is no way someone should be pinned after receiving this move.
Atomic Leg Drop: Hulk Hogan
2 of 14It’s a leg drop.
Just because it is done by Hulk Hogan doesn’t mean it should be any more effective.
Putting the word “Atomic” in front of it shouldn’t make a difference either.
Hogan has defeated some of the greatest superstars ever with this move that looks about as effective as a chocolate teapot—unless Shawn Michaels is overselling it of course.
The People's Elbow: The Rock
3 of 14An elbow drop with theatrics.
Some would consider this to be a signature maneuver, but I believe the swinging DDT and the Spinebuster are his signature moves.
There is no doubt the People’s Elbow got the crowd excited and made them stand on their feet—I’m guilty of that myself—but have you ever even looked at the move? It’s an elbow drop!
He doesn’t even jump in the delivery either, making it even less effective!
It’s weird what moves become so popular.
The Samoan Spike: Umaga
4 of 14Fingerpoke of Doom II.
Umaga was unstoppable when he first debuted, going on a ridiculous undefeated streak.
What puzzles me is why the Samoan Bulldozer had such a rubbish finisher.
Apparently it is supposed to be a thumb thrust to the throat.
However, lack of accuracy made it look like it was to the chest, and furthermore, it just didn’t look like it should have been as effective as it was.
The video makes it look better than it actually is.
Full Nelson Slam: Jinder Mahal
5 of 14The most recent star to arrive in the WWE has a really anti-climactic finisher.
He has defeated the majority of his opponents with it since his debut, but it just looks like a normal move to me.
I don’t see why it is represented as so devastating.
Khali Vice Grip: The Great Khali
6 of 14The first entry for The Great Khali is his Vice Grip. This is such a ridiculous finishing move.
He squeezes the life out of his opponents by crushing their cranium.
Do I need to say any more?
Khali Chop: The Great Khali
7 of 14This is Khali’s second entry on this list.
Says something about his character don’t you think? His Brain Chop was even worse than his Vice Grip.
It was literally just a big slap to the forehead.
I’ve been slapped on the forehead before, but it didn’t put me out of action for the one, two, three, like it did for The Undertaker.
What can we gather from this?
I should be the Undertaker’s next opponent at WrestleMania.
Granted, my mate probably isn’t as strong or as big as The Great Khali...
The Worm: Scotty Too Hotty
8 of 14Think 5-Knuckle Shuffle but with added dancing.
Scotty Too Hotty was immensely popular back in the day—so much so, that people didn’t even notice how rubbish his finishing move was.
It is just an overzealous punch.
Wrestlers kick out of much worse moves than this.
The Playmaker: MVP
9 of 14I don’t even know how to describe this move, other than it looks like it’s more painful for MVP than his opponent.
I don’t understand where the pain is supposed to be inflicted.
I’ve seen rookie Tough Enough contestants take worse bumps than the one caused by the Playmaker.
I’m not sold on the fact that it’s supposed to hurt.
S.O.S: Kofi Kingston
10 of 14This is just flipping your opponent round into a pinning position.
An extravagant roll up if you will.
This can’t possibly hurt, yet it cost Ziggler a fall on Monday Night.
It looks cool, but it doesn’t look like it hurts.
Splash: The Ultimate Warrior
11 of 14I’m not joking, this was his finishing move: a splash.
Fair enough if you weigh 400-500lbs, but Warrior was just a well built man.
I can’t see how a splash from him could possibly hurt, especially if you tensed up your stomach.
Flying Forearm: Tito Santana
12 of 14Performing in the WWF for around 14 years, Tito Santana appeared at the first eight WrestleMania events.
He only won once out of these eight appearances, and I’m not surprised since his finishing move was a Flying Forearm.
Wrestlers perform the Flying Forearm all the time, which is why it just doesn’t stand as being a legitimate finisher.
The McGillicutter: Michael McGillicutty
13 of 14It’s a neckbreaker, and I wondered why he’d won one week on Raw with such a lame move and someone told me it was his finisher.
Really?... Really? Jimmy!
I don’t think this should be a finisher; I’ve seen worse neck-breakers performed in normal action.
Thanks for Reading!
14 of 14So there you have it.
Finishing moves that I don’t think would hurt. I am in no way putting myself up to be tested by them, but athletes shouldn’t find kicking out of them a problem.
