WWE Capitol Punishment: Predicting the Invasion of Our Nation's Capitol

Kyle SchadlerJun 18, 2011

WWE Capitol Punishment is right around the corner.  With seven matches, WWE has the chance to step up their game.

Recent WWE pay-per-views have been very disappointing.  I really hope the sports-entertainment giant can deliver and give us something great.

With at least four out of the seven matches having the potential to be great bouts, WWE has put together a card that gives me hope.

So let's get started.

Rey Mysterio vs. CM Punk

Haven’t we seen this before?  If memory serves me correctly, these two feuded for three months last year, culminating at Over the Limit 2010 in a Rey-joins-SES-versus-Punk’s-hair match on Smackdown.

I guess since they’re both on Raw now, WWE decided to do it again on the A-show.

This one started a few weeks ago with the two trading victories in great matches. I have no doubt this one will be great as well—probably even match of the night.

This feud is not much different from the one they had on Smackdown, though.

The only real difference is that instead of Punk’s Straight Edge Society he now has the Nexus.  Expect the Nexus to get involved here. Their interference will lead to Punk picking up his first PPV victory since Extreme Rules 2010.

Winner: CM Punk

Alex Riley vs. the Miz

This feud has been in the making for a year, since Miz starting mentoring A-Ry on NXT.

I knew it was only a matter of time before they did battle.

For months, I waited for Riley to get tired of Miz and turn on him.  Finally, after Miz lost the WWE Title, it happened.

Miz blamed Riley for losing the strap and fired him as a result. Riley then snapped and absolutely destroyed Miz.

Since the rivalry officially started, Riley has been in complete control. Whether he was beating the Miz down or helping Roddy Piper get the victory over him, Riley has always had the upper hand over Miz.

That’s about to change, though.

Having Miz get beat down for weeks makes him look like a weak heel, so he needs this victory.

Plus, if A-Ry won, that would end the feud, and I expect this to last until Summerslam, where Riley will get the feud-ending victory.

Winner: The Miz

Big Show vs. Alberto Del Rio

This feud has kind of been a waste of time.

WWE clearly has nothing for Show to do, and Del Rio needed something to keep him busy until Summerslam, where he’s supposed to challenge for the WWE Title.

The way I look at it, that’s how this feud came about—they both needed something to do, so WWE stuck them together.

It all started when Ricardo Rodriguez “ran over” Show with Del Rio’s car.  For the next few weeks, Del Rio and Ricardo made fun of Show. This past Monday, however, Show returned and all but killed Ricardo.

Show doesn’t need this victory, but Del Rio does. Expect Del Rio to pick up the victory here over the world’s largest athlete. Whether he uses his submission finisher to get the win remains to be seen.

I don’t see Show tapping out, so Del Rio will win by cheating somehow.

Winner: Alberto Del Rio

Wade Barrett vs. Ezekiel Jackson: Intercontinental Title

This all started when Big Zeke broke away from the Corre.  At first the Corre would use their gang mentality to get the upper hand over the big man, but Zeke’s size and strength would soon prove to be too much for the group.

Then Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel ditched Barrett.

The Corre was no more, and Barrett was screwed.

He won and retained the title with help from the Corre, but with no backup, Barrett will be losing his Intercontinental Title.

Winner and New Champion: Ezekiel Jackson

Kofi Kingston vs. Dolph Ziggler: United States Title

Ziggler had beaten Kofi in a non-title match a few weeks back, and ever since that happened I knew this match was going to go down at the PPV.

This feud hasn’t been the most exciting one, unfortunately. Since their one-on-one match, we’ve seen Ziggler at ringside, Ziggler backstage watching Kofi’s match, or the two of them in a tag-team match.

I know the two can perform and work very well together, so expect this match to be a great one.

That’s assuming, of course, WWE gives it a nice chunk of time.

Vickie Guerrero is not supposed to be there, due to the stipulation Dolph agreed to—Steve Austin made him ditch Vickie to get the title shot. I think this will be a factor in the match.

Can Dolph win without Vickie?  I think he can.

Winner and New Champion: Dolph Ziggler

John Cena vs. R-Truth: WWE Title

This feud has actually gotten me interested in a John Cena match.  It’s not because of Cena—it’s all because of R-Truth.

Since turning heel, Truth has gotten under everyone’s skin. You either hate him or love what he’s become.

I personally love what he has become—the greatest heel since CM Punk.

For the longest time Punk was really the only believable heel in the company.  Truth, I think, has surpassed Punk.  He has proven to be a better overall performer as a heel than he ever was as a face.

I would love to see him become the new champion.  He has shown that he is worthy of a title reign, even if it’s just a month long.

We all know that’s not going to happen, though—this is John Cena we’re talking about.

Cena and the Little Jimmys will prevail, as always.

Winner and Still Champion: John Cena

Randy Orton vs. Christian: World Title

Christian was screwed out of the title, plain and simple.

The one good thing we got out of it, though, was Christian’s heel turn. Captain Charisma works so much better as a heel.  Much like his former partner Edge, Christian thrives at being a bad guy.

The big thing going against Christian is the fact that Orton is the John Cena of Smackdown.  This will no doubt be a good match, though.

A little hard to predict, but I have a gut feeling that Christian will walk away with the title.

Winner and New Champion: Christian

WWE Capitol Punishment has the potential to be a great show.

Will it be?  Only time will tell.

WWE has dropped the ball in terms of PPV's so far this year.  I'd like to see them blow us away.

With TNA's Slammiversary last Sunday being the best PPV so far this year WWE has to step up their game. I think they can do it.

But will they choose to?
