Danica Patrick vs. Dale Earnhardt Jr.: Who Will Be First to Win Another Race?

Melissa Bauer-HerzogJun 16, 2011

The talk that started when Danica Patrick announced she was coming to NASCAR part time has quietly intensified as people speculate about her future in the series.

Will Danica get her win before Dale Earnhardt Jr? I say no.

The following few slides go over a few reasons why Dale Jr will drive into Victory Lane before Danica.

No.1: Junior Has Been Close

Dale Earnhardt Jr has been close to Victory Lane two times in the last three races and has been running well consistently this season. If he doesn't grab a win by the end of this season, it will surprise quite a few people.

No. 2: Danica Still Has a Lot of Learning to Do

Just because Danica Patrick comes to NASCAR full time doesn't mean she'll automatically get a win right away. Yes, she won't be jumping in the car cold without any experience, but she also still has a lot of learning left to do that can only come with time in the car.

While her placings will probably get better with the experience, this will be her big obstacle when it comes to winning before Dale Jr.

No. 3: Hendrick Is Putting in Extra Time for Jr's Win

Rick Hendrick is doing whatever he can think of to get Dale Jr a win in the Sprint Cup series.

While JR Motorsports is also working to make Danica Patrick successful, they aren't focusing on wins as much as learning experience for her first few years.

Having Hendrick Motorsports 100% behind getting Junior back in Victory Lane is another point towards Junior.

No. 4: Danica's Series Is More Agressive

JOLIET, IL - JUNE 4: Reed Sorenson, driver of the #32 Dollar General Toyota, races Justin Allgaier, driver of the #31 Brandt Chevrolet, and Aric Almirola, driver of the #88 TaxSlayer.com Chevrolet, during the NASCAR Nationwide Series STP 300 at Chicagolan

While this is a controversial point, the Nationwide drivers have it tougher as they have to deal with each other in addition to Cup guys.

Since Nationwide is also a "move up" series where drivers fight to get a Cup ride, it can be more aggressive at times since the drivers know the "right" people are watching.

The Cup series is tough, there's no denying that, but the Cup guys also drive smarter while going for wins and championships. The Nationwide guys are driving for both those things in addition to getting noticed by the right people for a ride in the big series.

No. 5: Records

BROOKLYN, MI - JUNE 15: Dale Earnhardt Jr., driver of the #88 National Guard/AMP Energy Chevrolet celebrates in Victory Lane after winning the NASCAR Sprint Cup Series Lifelock 400 at the Michigan International Speedway on June 15, 2008 in Brooklyn, Mich

While Dale Jr's win record right now admittedly isn't looking all that good after two bad years of racing, Danica Patrick only has one win in her professional racing career (coming in 2008, the same year Junior won his last Cup race), while Dale Earnhardt Jr has 18 wins in his Sprint Cup career.

Going off records alone, it looks like Dale Jr has a major advantage in the "Who will win first" and is just another reason the No. 88 will be seen in the Sprint Cup Victory Lane before the No. 7 (or any other car number Patrick drives in the future).
