Floyd Mayweather Jr vs. Manny Pacquiao: Why I'd Rather Watch Mayweather's Fight

Robert CotterJun 14, 2011

These may be the two most anticipated tune-up fights in the history of tune-up fights.

Before the world gets its wish of seeing co-pound-for-pound champs Floyd Mayweather and Manny Pacquiao square off in the ring, each will have to win in their upcoming tune-up fights.

First, will be the return of "Pretty Boy" Floyd Mayweather Jr. to the ring as he will square off against WBC champion Victor Ortiz on Sept. 17th.

If Mayweather survives the only thing standing in the way of the fight of century would be future Hall of Famer Juan Manuel Marquez, as he Pacquiao will conclude their great trilogy of fights on Nov. 12th.

For a young college kid like myself, money is not something I have in bundles. With both Mayweather's and Pacquiao's fight taking place within a couple months, I have the difficult decision of choosing which fight I will spend my $60-plus on.

While Pacquiao vs Marquez III does provide the long-awaited conclusion to one of boxing's greatest trilogies, I will be spending my hard earned money on Mayweather vs. Ortiz.

Why, you ask?

Well, let's begin with the fact that any Floyd Mayweather event is much-watch TV. Whether it's watching Mayweather's antics on 24/7, the drama with his father or his infamous online rants, when Floyd's on TV, count me in.

At this point in their careers, there is no comparison between Victor Ortiz and a 37-year-old Juan Manuel Marquez. While Ortiz is a young fighter, hungry to advance his career, I am all too skeptical to think Marquez is looking for anything more than a paycheck. Hopefully I'm wrong.

Lastly, I am simply more interested in watching Floyd Mayweather fight than Manny Pacquiao.

Blasphemy! Treason! Lies!

Yes, yes, I know many of you can not imagine someone being more interested in watching a defensive-first fighter over an action-packed fighter, the like of Pacquiao.

I'll simply put it this way. I believe Floyd Mayweather is a once in a generation fighter. Pacquiao, I am not so sure of.

So disagree with me all you want, I'll be spending my money on "Money May."
