UFC 131 Weigh-in Results and Reaction

Jordy McElroyJun 10, 2011

The UFC held its official weigh-ins for UFC 131 on Friday at the Jack Poole Plaza in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada.

Fans watched as all 24 fighters competing on Saturday night took to the scales.

The main event features the heavyweight title eliminator bout between Junior Dos Santos and Shane Carwin. Dos Santos was originally slated to face Brock Lesnar, but a second case of diverticulitis forced Lesnar to withdraw from the card.

Seeing a golden opportunity to climb back into title contention, Carwin agreed to step in for the injured Lesnar against Dos Santos. It's been nearly a year since Carwin last competed. At UFC 116, he suffered a major cardio meltdown in his championship bout with Lesnar, who picked up the second round submission.

Since the loss, Carwin has cleaned up his diet and become a much leaner version of his former self.

"I feel great. It's been a great camp. I recovered from surgery, and I'm excited," Carwin told UFC commentator Joe Rogan. "This is a great opportunity. Someone is getting knocked out."

Dos Santos is fresh off his three round drubbing of Roy "Big Country" Nelson. The bout against Carwin should serve as the biggest of his MMA career. Since his entry into the UFC, pundits have continuously pointed at the everlasting potential of Dos Santos.

Can he get past Carwin and move on to face Cain Velasquez for the UFC heavyweight title?

"I'm feeling great. I know Shane is a tough opponent, but for sure, someone is getting knocked out tomorrow," said Dos Santos. "Just remember, don't blink."

In the co-main event, perennial lightweight contender Kenny Florian is set to make his featherweight debut against perennial underdog Diego Nunes. While Florian looks to secure a title shot against UFC champion Jose Aldo, Nunes hopes to prove himself as a future star in the featherweight division.

The card also features an important middleweight tilt between Demian Maia and Mark Munoz, a heavyweight bout involving the UFC debuts of Dave Herman and Jon Olav Einemo, and a lightweight scrap between Donald "Cowboy" Cerrone and Vagner Rocha.

UFC 131 will take place on Saturday night at Rogers Arena in Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada. The event will air live on pay-per-view at 9 p.m. ET/6 p.m. PT. Spike TV will air two preliminary bouts from the card at 8 p.m. ET/5 p.m. PT. The UFC will stream the other five bouts on Facebook and Youtube at 5:50 p.m. ET/2:50 p.m. PT.
