English Premier League Transfer Rumors: Who's Staying and Who Wants Out

Neri SteinJun 1, 2011

The Transfer Window never sleeps. Players and coaches are always changing their minds and their allegiances, and someone expected pops up each and every day.

In some sort of transfer related news, Everton manager David Moyes has denied rumors linking him with the job Aston Villa. He's happy at Goodison, and he wants to stay there...for now.

Pepe Reina also further denied transfer rumors by stating he, "never wanted" to leave Liverpool, so what does that mean for Liverpool's chase of Aston Villa keeper Brad Friedel?

Let's dive in.

Michael Owen Signs Deal at Manchester United

Michael Owen knows he'd be sitting on the bench for any club these days, and there's no better bench than Manchester United. The former Liverpool striker signed a new one-year deal with the club.

With Javier Hernandez lighting up the Premier League and Wayne Rooney finding his scoring form again, Owen will be no more than a backup for the Red Devils, but he's certainly a reliable backup. He's scored 14 goals in 47 appearances for United, and his injuries haven't hurt the team.

Good work bringing him back. It certainly doesn't do any bad.

Dimitar Berbatov Says He'll Stay

But not all of United's 30-plus strikers are happy with a spot on the bench. Dimitar Berbatov wasn't even that for Manchester United's Champions League Final against Barcelona, and he was not happy.

A stellar first half of last season where he couldn't stop scoring was good enough to get him the joint Golden Boot in the Premier League last season even though he didn't play as often in the second half, as Sir Alex Ferguson favored Chicharito and a surging Wayne Rooney.

Berbatov has stated he wants to stay at United and fight for his place despite the "embarrassment" of being left off of the Champions League Final roster. However, Owen is likely to be the much more content of the two with time on the bench.

Brad Friedel Set for Tottenham

Last week, Brad Friedel looked like a lock to rejoin Liverpool on a two-year deal, but now it looks like the steady, 40-year-old Aston Villa keeper will be jumping right into first-team action with Tottenham.

The American will be replacing the error-prone Heurelho Gomes in favor of seeing limited action at Liverpool and a future coaching position with the Reds.

Tottenham does not want to lose Gareth Bale. In case we weren't sure before, now they've put a £50 million price tag on his head to keep the stylish winger in London.

Bale did admit he was unhappy not to secure Champions League football for next season, which had teams like Inter Milan and Juventus swirling.

Creative midfielder Luka Modric is not so loved, as his price tag is reportedly only £20 million to £25 million, and his sale would be used to further invest in the squad. With Paul Scholes retiring, Manchester United are very interested in the Croatian international.

Last week, Sir Alex Ferguson stated the deal to bring Atletico Madrid's David De Gea to Manchester United was all but done, but the Spanish side and their keeper were not so sure. It certainly looks like it will happen, but nothing is definite...yet.

Talks are surely still ongoing, but the keeper himself said he did not want to decide anything until after the European U-21s Championships.

Atletico Madrid is holding a hard line on their keeper, who may want to stay with his club, and on their star striker...

Will Chelsea Finally Get Sergo Aguero?

Chelsea has been chasing the Argentinian striker from Atletico Madrid for years, and now, Sergio Aguero has actually stated his desire to leave Atletico Madrid.

Real Madrid are reportedly interested, but Atletico will not sell to their arch-rivals. With Fernando Torres, Aguero's former captain (and tattoo twin), at Stamford Bridge may entice "El Kun" to come to London, and the €45 million price tag should be no problem at all for Roman Abramovich.

However, Chelsea is far from the only Premier League club with interest in Diego Maradona's son-in-law.

Aquero's signing would also throw a huge wrench into the Chelsea careers of Didier Drogba and Nicolas Anelka, both over 32, which is 10 years older than Aguero.

Aston Villa Duo Want Out

Ashley Young has been slated to leave Aston Villa all season long, and Stewart Downing, despite earlier claiming he wanted to stay, now looks set to leave as well. Aston Villa had a poor season, as they finished ninth, and in January, they were in the relegation zone for the first time since 2002.

Young has Manchester United and Liverpool chasing his signature, and claims he wants new challenges. Meanwhile, Downing is being watched by Liverpool and Arsenal and has rejected contract negotiations with Villa, saying he is unsure where his future lies.

Young is the more likely to leave because he has just one year left on his contract, but the club could very well lose both.

Liverpool would love to get one or both players, but negotiating with Aston Villa has proved to be difficult for the Reds in the past (Gareth Barry).

Big Sam Takes Over West Ham, Looks Set to Lose a Lot of Players

Sam Allardyce was fired from Blackburn last December, and he will now take charge of West Ham's fight for promotion from the Championship next season. And he looks set to do it without many of the club's star players (who couldn't keep the club up in the first place).

The FWA Footballer of the Year Scott Parker tops the list, and the 30-year-old midfielder has been linked to Liverpool, Tottenham and Arsenal. Goalkeeper Robert Green could replace Brad Friedel between the sticks at Aston Villa.

Stoke denied making a bid for England striker Carlton Cole, though they have showed interest in the past. Cole is also on Newcastle's radar as replacement for Andy Carroll, and Newcastle is looking at Cole's teammate Demba Ba as well.

Nicklas Bendtner Confident He'll Find a New Club

Nicklas Bendtner wants out of Arsenal, and his father certainly thinks they'll find a club to pay the £12 million price tag. Bendtner has been linked with top clubs around Europe such as Bayern Munich and Real Madrid.

Arsenal fans probably wouldn't be too sad to see him go, but they certainly don't want to lose Samir Nasri. The French midfielder is reportedly holding out for more money than Arsenal would like to pay, and Arsene Wenger says that could be a stumbling block in getting a new deal signed. But Wenger has said he will not sell Nasri to Manchester United, who is looking for a replacement for the recently retired Paul Scholes.

Arsenal still needs a new central defender, and Bolton's Gary Cahill is still being linked, though they face competition from Liverpool and Manchester City.

Is Carlos Tevez In or Out?

The biggest transfer saga in England this summer (besides Cesc Fabregas to Barcelona) will be that of Carlos Tevez. He's been a revelation for Manchester City in his two years with the blue side of Manchester, but in January, he cast doubt over his future with the club.

He put in a transfer request but then revoked it, but the real issue for Tevez is his family. His family was unhappy in England, and being without them makes him unhappy.

His most likely destination is Italy, but he has recently refused an offer from Juventus. But this is in no way the end of this saga.

Roberto Mancini would hate to lose Tevez, but Sergio Aguero could be the perfect replacement.
