WWE and IWC Can Finally Stop Wondering If Brock Lesnar Will Return to Wrestling

Michael HamiltonMay 31, 2011

I hope this puts to bed an issue that keeps cropping up occasionally: Brock Lesnar's return to the WWE.  According to www.popeater.com, Lesnar likens his tenure in the WWE to being a runaway slave.  He admitted to addictions to painkillers and alcohol in coping with the wear and tear wrestling caused his body. Further, Lesnar states that he was regularly in a zombie-like state or slept through his occasional off days.

Lesnar also went on to criticize the WWE the inadequate medical coverage it provided to wrestlers, but also acknowledged that the wrestlers willingly sign their contracts as well as the conditions under which they will work.  He also stated that he would look around the locker room at the men who have wrestled for twenty-plus years and realized that he didn't want to become one of them when he was older.  Good for you, Sir!

I'm proud of Brock Lesnar for being blunt and honest in his assessment of his WWE tenure, rather than gloss over the real problems and conditions that exist throughout the industry.  He's not trying to keep company secrets secret, or worry about how his thoughts are perceived by management.

Lesnar strikes me as a direct and honest individual.  You may not like what he says, or the man personally, but at least when asked, he'll tell you exactly how he feels about which ever topic of conversation is broached.  I admire this in any person; it is a rare characteristic in anyone.

With these comments, and his book "Death Clutch" released, Lesnar has effectively burned his bridges with WWE, foregoing a shot at a lucrative career after his time with UFC passes.  I'm sure he could have commanded a tidy sum even with sporadic appearances on WWE programming, but instead, he stayed true to his personal ethics in letting his true feelings slip through his teeth.

I would have enjoyed seeing Lesnar in WWE again.  He is such a powerhouse, and the ease with which he pulled off difficult maneuvers was awe-inspiring. However, with this new information, I would rather see Lesnar as he is now: honest. My cynical self is now a fan of the man, not just the personality and character.

Doubtless, Vince McMahon will do what he always does when former talent speaks ill of his company or himself, and that is ignore Lesnar and effectively erase him from programming. However, in doing so, McMahon is effectively affirming Lesnar's allegations.  Truly, the silence is deafening, and damning as well. A story was posted a few weeks ago on www.yahoo.com citing that 25% of the wrestlers in Wrestlemania 7 have since passed away.  No comments; just more deafening and damning silence from WWE.

Good for you, Mr Lesnar, for joining the ranks of those critical of WWE's labor standards, and proudly so.  The pool of dissenting voices is growing, and with your mainstream appeal and recognition, you could actively bring about better conditions for those following in your footsteps.  Help others avoid the pitfalls to which you, yourself nearly succumbed, and bring about revolution to an industry that so desperately needs it.  Be the strong voice and leader that the WWE dissenters so desperately need.
