R-Truth Should Be a Real Threat to the WWE Championship
When R-Truth changed his persona to heel status, he finally took a step in the right direction.
The 39-year-old is moving toward superstardom now that he has changed his character and challenged current WWE Heavyweight Champion John Cena last week on RAW.
This is not the first time R-Truth has taken a step toward winning a world championship. And it appears the new attitude has served him well so far.

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
R-Truth started in TNA and became the first African-American to hold the NWA World Heavyweight Championship under his real name Ron “The Truth” Killings.
What heel status has done for R-Truth is given him more of an identity and more face time, something that he had before as a happy face who rapped his way to the ring and teamed with John Morrison on a number of occasions in tag team action.
When Morrison won a match against R-Truth, thus taking away his title shot in a three-way dance, the former fan favorite turned on his friend at a RAW event in England and attacked the fan-favorite Morrison, telling him over and over again, “You made me do this.”
What we are seeing in recent weeks is a real “push” for R-Truth to climb the superstar ladder, which may have been a long time coming to him. He had been mired in mid-card status and was usually the odd man out of title shots where superstar faces such as Randy Orton and Cena or heels like CM Punk, Dolph Ziggler and even Mark Henry have gotten a chance at WWE gold.
To this date, R-Truth has not been in a title match where a singles championship is on the line.
He has even gone as far as to come face to face with WWE Hall of Famer Brett Hart.
While the RAW brand must decide what to do with mid-carders who have been at the pinnacle of success (Dolph Ziggler, Jack Swagger and Henry in tag team action), R-Truth now has a chance to show why he was successful in other promotions.
A feud with Cena may seem imminent, but he also has to contend with the likes of Rey Mysterio and possibly CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio. And of course, once Morrison returns from injury, he should jump right back into title contention.
This is also good for the sport because he and Ezekiel Jackson both seem primed for title runs and a potential world championship as African-American wrestlers, something the WWE has never had in its existence.
But for now R-Truth will continue to develop his character. It is likely if the fans take to the idea of a feud with Cena, the writers will continue to build on this since they have seemed to be responding to mediocre characters and mediocre effort from existing champions (Cena).
R-Truth is a fresh face that could stir the pot of the WWE and give them something they haven’t had in a while: a new angle to play with that can really develop into something long lasting.
And that’s the truth.
