What the WWE Needs to Change: The Opinions of a Die-Hard Fan

Anthony MarsinelliMay 26, 2011

Welcome to the first of hopefully many articles.  Obviously, if you are reading this, you are a fan of the WWE and would agree that it is not at the top of its game.  The funny thing is, the current predicament has been greatly exaggerated.  I've seen WWE's current state compared to WCW, that it will eventually fall to TNA.  If you ask me, that is the funniest joke I've ever heard.  The day that WWE falls to TNA and Vince Russo is the day when Hell freezes over.  I'm not saying that TNA is awful, but they can never compete with WWE.  The thing is, the WWE only needs a few minor changes to bring back fans.  A new direction for the company, if you will.

This is my opinion on what needs to change within the company that I love.  Well, I hope you enjoy.

End the Raw/Smackdown Crossovers.

1 of 4

I don't know about you, but I miss the old days when superstars didn't jump brands.  Before the draft, Alberto Del Rio was featured on almost every Raw and Smackdown.  I personally don't enjoy his character, and having to see him on Raw bothered me.  He was a Smackdown superstar, and that's where he should've stayed, like everyone else on the roster.  Cody Rhodes and Rey Mysterio didn't jump shows every week; they stayed where they belonged.  It was then that I remembered how things used to be, and I longed for things to return to the way they once were.

Pay-per-views focused on a specific brand, and the only crossover was for the Big Four (Wrestlemania, Summer Slam, Royal Rumble and Survivor Series).  By going back to the way things were and giving each brand their own pay-per-views would greatly help the company by giving each roster longer time to build up feuds.  Currently they have about a month, but with the change, there'd be about two months for each brand to build up a great feud.  And if it means only having to see ADR only once a week, I'll support it completely.

Give the Titles Back the Prestige They Deserve.

Honestly, this man, JBL, was one of the greatest WWE champions in recent history, and his 280 day reign was unforgettable.  He was a great heel that made you hate him every Friday night, and when he was the champion, he made the title important.

Nowadays, the title no longer really matters; it just decides which feud is top of the card.  The Miz was beginning to make the title seem important, but he lost it to Cena, whose character stays the exact same with or without a championship.  Until Wrestlemania, the WWE Championship will be an accessory for the Rock/ Cena battle, and that is the problem.  By making the title an accessory, you take away the greatness and importance it once held.

Also, the titles change hands much too frequently.  Christian lost the title after two days, making his only reign somewhat of a cruel joke.  He reached his dream only to have it taken away.  It's funny, because one of the best feuds of 2010 occured without the WWE title beign involved, and that was the Nexus/ Cena angle.  As much as I hate Cena, that storyline was enjoyable to watch unfold week after week.

Pretty much, the WWE needs to learn that evry feud doesn't need a chhampionship to make it great, and also that switching champions every pay-per-view doesn't help anyone.  Let the champ hold the title and get some more experience.

Revive the Dying Mid Card

3 of 4

The mid card used to be the home of future hall of famers.  It was once OK to never capture a world championship, but the company is currently using the mid card as a stepping stone to the main event scene.  Unfortunately, most of the talent used in the mid card has never reached higher levels, despite the companies best efforts and the fans' desires.  Kofi Kingston, Dolph Ziggler, Drew McIntyre, Wade Barrett and Sheamus have all received major pushes, but could never quite click in the top of the card.  Thing is, it's not a bad thing being in the mid card.  Roddy Piper, Mr. Perfect and Rick Rude all never held the world title and stayed mainly in the mid card.

The current WWE has made the mid card a joke, giving bad feuds (Big Zeke and The Corre) and very little title defenses (when was the last time Kofi defended his U.S. gold?).  By giving the mid card more importance, the WWE would be able to craft young talent into future stars that the company will one day rely on when Cena and Orton have left.

Well, I'm not going to waste any more of your time.  As I've said, by making these changes, the WWE could make an even larger fanbase and greatly improve the company.  Let me know what you thought of my first article by sounding off in the comments section, and any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.  And what do you think, is WWE the next WCW, or will Vince Russo bring down another company with great potential?  Thanks for reading.
