There's a rather alarming debate that's been going on for the past couple of seasons, questioning the real motives behind a footballer's decision to play the game.
It's not something I haven't looked at before (When Greed Takes Over The Game...).
However, this time I'm going to address the issue in a different manner.

What's the real dream of every footballer?
It may start with money and fame, but there's nothing wrong with that. Don't criticize a fellow for trying to attain his means for survival; that's wrong, but there is a limit.
Every professional is economically justified in trying to satisfy his basic needs and desires.
If you love football, you can play it in your spare time and go on to become an accountant or an economist or even a cardiologist, but what makes these lads "go pro"?
Yes, they are good—it would be a shame if talents like Lionel Messi and Cristiano Ronaldo went to waste—but, after making it to the grand stage, what, then, is the prime motivator?
Money? Check.
Fame? Check.
Passion? Check.
Pleasure? Check.
Glory?—hold on a second...
Glory...Does it mean anything to these lads? Is it a motivating factor?
Would they prefer a GBP 140,000 weekly pay cheque or a GBP 10,000 with a Champions League medal?
It's just a thought...Don't get too restless...
