WWE: Why If Things Don't Change, I'll Stop Watching

Ricky MarteMay 24, 2011

Monday May 24th: CM Punk and R-Truth face off against John Cena and Rey Mysterio. Only a moron wouldn't know what was going to happen in this match. Obviously Mysterio and Cena won the match. Punk gets put into a sharpshooter by REFEREE Bret Hart, Mysterio drops a leg on Punk's head and the match is over. The faces defeat the heels (again).

Monday May 2nd: Cena takes on The Miz with the WWE Title on the line. Miz initially retains the WWE title after using it on the Champ. The referee catches Miz with the title and reverses his decision.

Maybe you see my point here, maybe you don't. In the case of the latter, let me explain.

There is some weird stuff going on in WWE these days. The first of which is that it has become unbelievably and undeniably predictable. The last time I was actually surprised about something was when Miz used his MITB contract against Randy Orton and won the WWE title. So, essentially it has been months since the WWE has thrown something fresh at me.

The next thing that is bothering me is how faces are ruling the WWE.

People might talk about how John Cena is Super Cena, but if you look further, we now get to put up with Super Orton and Super Mysterio as well. You can always count on Monday Night Raw for a happy ending.

I remember watching Eric Bischoff's Monday Night Raw. The face/heel relationship worked very well together. The heel would make his move, and eventually the face would have his revenge. The heel would dominate for weeks on Raw, and the face would have his day at the next pay-per-view. Now, the face wins every single time on Raw (in the main event).

Where the heck is the conflict? How are you supposed to create a good storyline and program if there is no pertinent issue in the first place?

Next, the WWE is doing a terrible, terrible job building up the heels. Right now, there is no monster heel in the WWE. You have Miz, CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio as the three top heels in WWE. When is the last time any of these three won cleanly against the big three of Cena, Mysterio and Orton? I'm pretty sure that Alberto Del Rio was the last one to get a clean win. How long ago was that? I don't remember either.

Another issue that I have is management's use of its top overall superstars, with a very special significance falling on CM Punk. I challenge any of you to name a better overall superstar than CM Punk.

I completely realize that I'm not the first one to talk about this, and I won't be the last. But I just can't hold my tongue any longer. Punk has a great (if not the best) moveset, he's fantastic on the mic, has a great look and is a fantastic heel. Yet, he gets beaten at every pay-per-view, and on most week shows, unless he is facing a mid-carder. Really? Let's figure it out management. The guy is good. Real good.

The final of my rants is directed towards WWE referees.

When the hell did referee's start reversing decisions? The fact that a referee reverses his decision every time a heel does something heelish takes the edge away from being a heel. A heel is supposed to be cowardly. He (or she) is supposed to use turnbuckles and ILLEGAL tactics. Every once in a while, a heel is supposed to use a belt or a steel chair and get away with it. Since when did the referee's start wising up to things? For goodness sake.

(I want to clarify that this is a rant. It may be pretty disorganized and everything, but the fact is this is how I feel.)

If anyone agrees out there, let me know. Because I can't take this much longer.

What do you guys think?
