Glamorgan were the big movers in the latest set of Division Two fixtures as they climbed to second, while the other two matches ended in draws.
Northamptonshire didn't play this round but remain top after five games on 88 points.
Glamorgan have 84 points, but have played a game more than Northamptonshire, after a nine-wicket victory against Middlesex.
Middlesex limped to 150 in their first innings at Lord's as James Harris took 5-41.
In reply, Glamorgan piled on 522 with Ben Wright hitting 101, William Bragg 87 and Gareth Rees 75. Tim Murtagh was the pick of the bowlers with 3-102.
Middlesex were better second time around as Chris Rogers (125) and Andrew Strauss (103) hit centuries to ensure Glamorgan had to bat again.
The away side reached their target of 27 for the loss of one wicket to claim a nine-wicket victory and condemn third-placed Middlesex to their first defeat of the season.
Gloucestershire are fourth, having won two, drawn two and lost two of their games after a draw against Leicestershire at Grace Road.
Alex Gidman's 168 and Kane Williamson's 149 powered Gloucestershire up to 504-9 declared. Jigar Naik claimed 4-91 and Matthew Hoggard 3-80.
Leicestershire slipped from 195-0 to 323 all out with the highest individual score being 23 after Matthew Boyce (119) and Will Jefferson (90) had been dismissed. Ian Saxelby returned 4-69 and Jon Lewis 3-52 for the away side.
Following on, the home side slipped to 134-5 thanks to Will Gidman's 3-29 but recovered to 245-5 with Paul Dixey 72 not out before the match was declared a draw.
Fifth-placed Essex drew with sixth-placed Surrey in Croydon, leaving both sides with one win and three draws.
Essex amassed 548 in their first innings with Graham Napier smashing 196 from 130 balls including 16 sixes. Stuart Meaker's 4-113 the pick of a tired bowling attack.
Surrey replied with an equally impressive 506 with captain Rory Hamilton-Brown making 159 and Gareth Batty 79. Chris Wright (3-109) and David Masters (3-77) gave Essex a slender first-innings lead.
Essex recovered from 222-8 to post 324, as Alastair Cook top-scored with 64 and Gareth Batty took 3-75.
Chasing 367, Surrey closed on 65-1 when the match ended as a draw.
The next round of fixtures sees Essex home to Middlesex, Kent face Derbyshire, Northamptonshire play Leicestershire and Surrey host Glamorgan.
