WWE Over the Limit Results: Was It Really a Quality PPV?
We are now past the WM fever and backlash matches, and have a new WWE PPV, Over the Limit. The WWE decided to dedicate to the recently deceased "Macho Man" Randy Savage, here's my analysis of the PPV:
The PPV began with a video package about the "concept" of the PPV and hyping up the championship matches. Nothing special.
R-Truth vs Rey Mysterio

Modern-Day Dream Matches 💭

Most Likely Backlash Heel/Face Turns 🎭
R-Truth entered first and cut a promo about parkings. Rey entered next in a grey outfit with a shirt that says "respect the mask" on the back. And the match began.
The bout started with some back and forth with both guys getting some offense in, but no one really in control. After a bit of that Truth took control and a near fall.
Mysterio almost came back, but Truth kept control and continued the attack, but managed a couple two counts.
Mysterio was a facebusted from the top rope and his first two count before his second near fall after a cross body.
Back and forth again with two counts for both wrestlers. Multiple attacks and counters by both of them. R-Truth took a clothesline and something that looked like Miz's skull crushing finale in and the match is over.
After the match Truth asks for a bottle of water drinks a bit and hits Mysterio with it. R-Truth won.
Short intense match to start the PPV, not that impressive, but good enough to start things going.
Intercontinental Title Match
Wow a video preview for a secondary title. I haven't seen that in a while.
Wade Barrett came out first, alone. Ezekiel Jackson came out second.
It was a slow start with Barret gaining the upper hand early and losing it almost immediately. Jackson began to dominate and got a near fall before continuing his attack.
The referee stopped the match for a bit to see Barrett's condition, but when Zeke was stopped by the referee Barrett attacked and took control and couple of two counts.
The competitors went back and forth after that and before Zeke took control again and body slammed Barrett numerous times.
Jackson set Barrett up for his finisher, and the rest of the Corre made an appearance. Gabriel attacked Big Zeke and the match is over.
Jackson was able to defend himself for some time, but the numbers game caught up.
Ezekiel Jackson won, but Wade Barrett remained the Intercontinental Champion.
Good match. The finish was a bit predictable, but nobody lost that much with it.
Sin Cara vs Chavo Guerrero
Sin Cara entered first followed by Chavo.
The match started off back and forth. Sin Cara took control early on, but lost the advantage as teh match once again became a pattern of back and forth with attacks and counters. Sin Cara was able to get a two count but nobody is really in control.
Sin Cara got a near fall after a cross body and a three count after a modified hurricanrana for the win.
Fast paced, athletic, back and forth. This match was great, which begs the question: why don't we have a Cruiserweight division?
Tag Team Championship Match
Ricardo Rodriguez introduced Alberto del Rio who cuts a promo about his destiny and Canadian immigrants. He was interrupted by the Big Show and Kane, who actually have a match in this PPV. Kane took a mic and "respectfully" asked Del Rio to leave, which he did almost immediately. Mason Ryan and Punk entered after del Rio left.
Punk and Kane started in the ring but after only a few second Punk tagged Ryan in. Mason seemed to be in control, but there was some back and forth.
With Kane down, Punk was tagged in. Kane attacked him and tagged in the Big Show. The champions took control until Punk was able to get a counter in and tag Ryan.
Ryan attacked the Big Show and let Punk enter for a cover: two count. Punk locked a head lock, but Big Show broke it by lifting Punk and bear hugging him.
Still carrying Punk he tagged Kane in, who landed a big boot on Punk. Kane continued on the attack and got a near fall.
Punk tagged Ryan in again and Mason went after Kane, he got another two count and tagged Punk. Ryan and Punk continued attacking, tagging each other in and out and getting two counts.
Kane was able to counter Ryan and suplexed him leaving both men on the floor, trying to tag their partners in.
Ryan got there first and stops Kane from making the tag. Punk misses from the top rope and both him and Kane tag Show and Ryan in.
Show got the upper hand. Punk interfered but was thrown out of the ring by Kane.
Ryan got a double chokeslam for the three count.
Kane and Big Show retained their tag team titles. It was a decent match in a dying division.
Divas Championship Match
The Bellas enter before Kelly Kelly.
Kelly Kelly used a stinkface, but the Bellas switched places and won the match.
I have nothing more to say about it. Brie Bella kept her title.
World Heavyweight Championship Match
Cole left before the match. Christian entered before Orton. A head lock and school boy by Christian to started the match, only leading to a one count.
Orton was in control, though, with Christian getting some offense here and there. A bit of back and forth with near falls for both guys.
Orton attacked, got caught and was going to be set up for a Killswitch, but he reversed it for an RKO. He was unable to deliver it, so Christian tried the Killswitch again but was caught up in a reverse Walls of Jericho, but wass able to get to the ropes forcing Orton to release the hold.
"Let's go Christian" chants began. Each suffered near fall for each of them one after a roll up and another after an off the ropes DDT. Christian got off a RKO, went for a spear, but Orton reversed it to a back breaker: two count.
Orton had second thoughts about punting Christian, but decided to do it only to be caught by a spear for yet another two count.
Killswitch to RKO to Killswitch reversed until Orton is able to hit the RKO: one two three.
They paid their respect to each other after the match
Randy Orton kept the championship.
As usual, the World Heavyweight Championship match is the best of the night.
Cole vs Lawler
Lawler entered first ready to compete. Cole came out limping in a suit instead of his horrible wrestling attire. He took a mic and a piece of paper out. Cole claimed to be medically prohibited from competing.
He gave a doctor's note to the referee who destroyed it and started the match.
Lawler controlled most of the match and won.
After the match and before making Cole kisses his foot, Lawler called someone to the ring. Eve came out and attacked Cole. After that, Lawler called for someone else and JR came out. He covered Cole in BBQ sauce.
Cole attempted to leave and grabbed a mic to call everybody a "loser". He told Lawler that he "never did and never will kiss his foot." Bret Hart entered and made Cole back up to ringside before tossing him in.
Hart hit Cole with a sharpshooter as King puts his feet on Cole's mouth.
I hope we never have to see a match between these two again. JR and Bret Hart were the best part of the match.
"I Quit" Match for the WWE CHampionship
JR joined the announcing team. Miz entered first with Riley, then Cena with the championship.
The bell rings and Miz asked the referee for his mic. He told Cena that his stipulation was a mistake, as Riley can join the match. Riley entered the ring and Miz tell Cena to save the trouble and quit right there and then.
Cena answered, "Hell no."
Then the match really started.
Cena started on the attack and gets Miz in a STFU, but Riley interfered and broke it.
MIz and Riley took control and Cena took a beating. Both attacked him with the briefcase, steel chairs, monitors, kendo sticks, and basically everything they could find.
Cena said no every time he was asked about quitting.
The match continued like that for a long time. Riley asked him after multiple attacks and Cena said, "I quit."
The referee went for the belt, but also found Riley's cell phone with a recording of Cena saying "I quit". The match restarted.
Riley missed with a belt shot and hit Miz instead of Cena, and got hit by an FU. Cena took his belt off and went after the Miz. He ran up the ramp, but was caught as he went backstage. Cena locked him in a STFU and Miz quits almost instantaneously.
John Cena retained his title in a decent, but predictable match.
I even think someone here at B/R said they were going to try and use the recording tactic.
Random thoughts
What's with the cars?
I do like the heel R-Truth, but no music?
I've never seen such a good promo about parkings.
Who's this little Jimmy guy?
Why the different lights when Sin Cara is in a match?
Maybe I'm wrong, but I think Sin Cara is undefeated in the WWE.
Capitol Punishment has one of the worst promos ever.
Cole's still an idiot.
I really liked Miz's oversized awesome during his entrance.
What's in that briefcase Riley carries around?
Summary
Overall it wasn't a bad PPV, but it was not good either. It had the feel of a long RAW or SmackDown episode, not that of a PPV.
