UFC 130 Fight Card: 5 Reasons Why Rampage Will Beat Matt Hamill
UFC 130 was supposed to feature the third and decisive battle between UFC lightweight champion Frankie Edger and Gray Maynard.
Because of injuries both men have during training camp, we’re left with former UFC Light Heavyweight champion Quinton “Rampage” Jackson taking on Matt “The Hammer” Hamill.
Rampage has been one of the most recognizable names in MMA over the past five years.
Whether it has been for knocking guys out, legal troubles or choosing movies over fighting, Rampage has become a household name.
Hamill, on the other hand, has become a story of inspiration being one of the best light heavyweight MMA fighters today despite being deaf.
This could be a close fight that goes either way.
But here are five reasons why Rampage will beat Matt Hamill.
His Boxing Ability
1 of 6
Rampage is one of the best boxers in MMA.
He holds one punch KO power in both hands, has good head movement and can stand with the best of them.
Although he has not KO’d anyone since 2008, he has knocked down Rashad Evans and Keith Jardine in their fights.
Matt Hamill has some good striking ability of his own, but some believe Rampage may overwhelm him.
His Wrestling Defense
2 of 6
One of the main reasons Rampage is able to keep his fights standing is because of his good wrestling defense.
Although Rashad Evans was able to take Rampage to the ground multiple times, not too many guys can say the same.
Wrestling will be a huge part of Hamill’s game plan if he’s having problems on his feet.
If Rampage is able to defend takedowns, he should have no problem taking this fight.
His Experience
3 of 6
Matt Hamill has faced guys who were more experienced than him.
Besides Tito Ortiz though, he has had some issues with former or current champions.
Even when Rampage is out of shape and unmotivated, he still has some close fights.
Rampage has been fighting for over 10 years and has seen some of MMA's best.
He should not and will not take the fight lightly.
His Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu Defense
4 of 6
Although it is not talked about much, Rampage has great jiu-jitsu defense.
Rampage only has one submission loss in his career, and it came in 2001 against Kazushi Sakuraba.
If Rampage is caught in a tough hold, he usually goes for a dangerous slam to get out of it.
He’s not the type of guy who goes for a lot of submissions, but he does defend them well.
His Aggression
5 of 6
Rampage is going to have to push the pace of this fight.
Hamill is a tough fighter and will not give up unless you knock him out.
If Rampage is going to win this fight, he’ll have to be the aggressor.
His aggression worked in his favor in his fight against Lyoto Machida.
This fight could end up being closer than people think. If that is the case, an aggressive Rampage could take another decision.
