B-Hop: Pacquiao won't fight blacks and Donovan McNabb just has "a suntan"

Colin LinneweberMay 11, 2011

Legendary prizefighter Bernard “The Executioner” Hopkins will challenge The Ring, WBC and IBO light heavyweight champion Jean Pascal for his belts May 21 in Montreal, Canada.

Pascal (26-1-1, 16 KOs) battled Hopkins (51-5-2-1, 32 KOs) to a controversial draw in their initial bout Dec. 18 in Quebec City, Canada.

Despite flooring “B-Hop” in the first and third rounds, Hopkins essentially dominated Pascal for the majority of their match.

The Philadelphia native has aged gracefully as an athlete and he is the antithesis of the character Randy “The Ram” Robinson from The Wrestler.

Sadly and disappointingly, “The Executioner” hasn’t managed to refine his often porous etiquette and behavior over the years.

While training for his upcoming bout yesterday in “The City of Brotherly Love,” Hopkins nonsensically implied that former Philadelphia Eagles quarterback Donovan McNabb wasn’t black enough.

"Forget this," Hopkins said, according to the Philadelphia Daily News, and pointed to his own skin. "He's got a suntan. That's all."

If Hopkins’ words weren’t pathetic enough, he then pledged support to excruciating hemorrhoid Terrell Owens in his feud with McNabb.

"T.O. got [into] the boardroom and saw the way they talked to McNabb. Coming from where he [came from] -- that's strange to some white people, when a black man speaks," said Hopkins, 46, an ex-convict who is destined for future induction into the International Boxing Hall of Fame.

Hopkins said Owens "[wasn't] used to this language. [He's] used to speaking up.'"

This is just the latest diatribe relating to race made by Hopkins.

In December, Hopkins feebly attempted to diminish the utter ring brilliance of pound-for-pound royalty Manny Pacquiao.

Hopkins, a pugilistic marvel who once successfully defended his middleweight title a record 20 times, claimed to the Associated Press that Pacquiao (53-3-2, 38 KOs) has sidestepped battling African-Americans throughout his spectacular career.

"Listen, this ain't a racial thing, but then again, maybe it is," said Hopkins.

"But the style that is embedded in most of us black fighters, that style could be a problem to any other style of fighting. I’m talking about an inner city, American-born fighter who has the style of maybe a Floyd Mayweather or a Zab Judah or a Shane Mosley.”

Hopkins continued his inane and cockeyed rant.

“That's why Floyd Mayweather would beat Manny Pacquiao because the styles that African American fighters—and I mean, black fighters from the streets or the inner cities—would be successful. I think Floyd Mayweather would pot-shot Pacquiao and bust him up in between the four-to-five punches that Pacquiao throws and then set him up later on down the line."

“Pac-Man” earned a lopsided unanimous decision victory over former three-division champion Mosley (46-7-1-1, 39 KOs) this past weekend.

Pacquiao would similarly annihilate the slightly above-average Judah (41-6-0-2, 28 KOs) and Mayweather (41-0, 25 KOs) has avoided the overwhelming congressman like anthrax for nearly two years.

The cowardly clown pocket known as “Money” has fought on two occasions in approximately four years.

Pacquiao can only scrap a fighter who is willing to battle him.

“Big” George Foreman was 45 when he monumentally knocked Michael Moorer onto Queer Street in the 10th round to capture the WBA and IBF heavyweight crowns to become the oldest world titlist in boxing history.

Hopkins turned 46 on January 15 and he will overcome historic odds, trump Foreman’s record, and rightfully emerge victorious this time over the precocious Pascal by unanimous decision.

“Hopkins is not in it for the money,” said Mike Cappiello, a native of Brockton who once fought for the IBO super featherweight title and retired with an impressive mark of 33-6. “He loves to fight.”

“B-Hop” is an absolute icon for the ages and he will add another chapter of excellence to his fabled career in roughly nine days.

Unfortunately, life will always be “a racial thing” for Hopkins.

Black, white or with “a suntan,” the classy Donovan McNabb is simply a better man than the unlikable and obnoxious Bernard Hopkins.
