WWE: 5 Feuds for Great Storylines

Skyler DavisMay 9, 2011

Hey, Bleachers!

It's been a little bit since I've made an article, so I think it's about time I drop some more thoughts on you all. I've been thinking recently about some people who are being misused, underutilized, or left completely absent in WWE programming. There's so much talent that's simply being left to the wayside, without an engaging storyline or feud to give them the vital opportunity they need to rise or stay on the next level. With that, I picked out five feuds that I think will give WWE, and these Superstars, a great chance at success.

Here goes.

Feud 1: Chavo vs. Sin Cara

1 of 6

Maybe it was just me, but did anyone else wonder why Chavo Guerrero was at ringside, on the last SmackDown? For a perennial jobber like him, it seemed odd that he'd be a special commentator for the match between Sin Cara and Tyson Kidd. However, this was a more than welcome oddity in my book. In fact, his presence has been long overdue.

Chavo is a talented wrestler, period. He has charisma, he has in-ring ability, and he has the heart and character of someone who lives for what they do. Throughout the years, Chavo has endured being the brunt of pathetic comedy acts, from being knocked-out by Bob Barker to having a losing feud against Hornswoggle. Sometimes, it seemed as though he was jobbing, just for the sake of having something to do. But no matter what, Chavo never stopped...always willing to take one for the team.

Sin Cara is the WWE's newest hot-find. Many people are hailing him as the second Rey Mysterio, and from what I've seen so far, I'm hard-pressed to argue against them. He's got the in-ring talent, and I'm even willing to overlook his botches thus far. After all, his entrance is really entertaining, and I do like the new touch of lighting to his matches. Sin Cara's one major drawback is that he's not fluent with English. This makes it very hard for him to hold up a feud on the mic.

However, there's a concept that's widely referred to when discussing feuds: It's easier to be a heel than a face, because faces need charisma to stay interesting while heels can just be jerks to get over with the fans. This is very true, but there are certain exceptions. For instance, a face who goes against a heel with tremendous heat.

Think back on Kofi Kingston, when he was feuding with Dolph Ziggler for the Intercontinental Championship. He got huge pops when he entered the ring, partly because of his talent and charisma but mostly because of how much people loathed Dolph. This is what should be done with Chavo-Cara.

Dolph Ziggler doesn't need Vickie anymore, she's only holding him back at this point. I'd like to see Chavo remain heel and start a feud with Sin Cara, citing his heritage and how Sin Cara is being pampered as the 'next big thing'. Let Chavo voice some of those frustrations I'm sure he's felt about his role in the WWE for the past several years, bringing in Vickie to act as his manager.

The two of them would pack enough heat for Sin Cara to get a solid rub from the fans, without ever having to speak. Besides, just think of the series of matches we could get from these two talented technicians.

Feud 2: Ted DiBiase vs. Cody Rhodes

2 of 6

I don't think anyone had a worse Mother's Day than Ted DiBiase did, because I find it hard to believe anyone resents being born more than he does at this point.

Ted had everything going for him a year and a half ago. He was part of a successful tag team, spear-headed by a future WWE legend. He was going at it on a weekly basis with the likes of Triple H and Shawn Michaels, and was quickly being regarded as the next big thing. It was certainly a shock to see the stark contrast in Ted and Cody's careers, once WM26 had concluded.

While Cody was steadily rising to the top, Ted was plummeting to the bottom. I don't even want to get into the details...it just hurts too much. Needless to say, it's hard to imagine things getting much worse for Ted at this point.

That may pose the question, why pair him up with Cody Rhodes, a promising star on-track for the main event scene?

The fact is, Cody and Ted never really got closure with one another. The internal differences that caused them to split Legacy apart faded quickly after WrestleMania 27, and left me feeling a touch of disappointment. But now, Cody and Ted are on the same brand once again, with their mentor, no less. Cody's got nothing going for him now, and Ted's had nothing going for him in a long while. We could easily establish a feud between the two.

Perhaps Ted, frustrated with his current situation, lashes out at Cody, blaming him for his misfortunes and stealing the spotlight Ted thinks he deserves. We get some decent verbal battles between the two (maybe their Hall of Fame fathers, as well), each of them being competent mic-workers. Their Hall of Fame fathers could even get in the mix. We get excellent in-ring performances (they were called "Legacy" for a reason), with possible cameos by their mentor, Randy Orton.

Even if it were just a transitional feud, it could be a very entertaining one to watch. Cody needs to do something to stay relevant, and Ted could benefit from Cody's new-found claim to fame. It's a win-win.

Feud 3: Zack Ryder vs. Dolph Ziggler

3 of 6

Woo, woo, woo.

Yes, I'm a proud member of the Zack Pack. And for good reason: Zack Ryder has everything he needs to be a major player in the WWE. He has the charisma, he has the in-ring ability, and the passion of a man who lives for the company he works for. Unfortunately, it looks like the WWE Creative haven't yet caught on to Zack's potential. This hasn't stopped him, though, because a lot of hard work and twelve 'webisodes' later, The Long Island Loudmouth has become one of the most beloved WWE personalities to the IWC, and WWE Universe at-large. Just count the signs supporting Zack, at the next SmackDown! or Raw taping.

Dolph Ziggler. Every time I think of him, I reflect on how far he's come from being a member of the Spirit Squad. Going from male cheerleader to dominant heel, Dolph has the in-your-face attitude, the ring work, and the drive to make him a top guy in this company. Though he's good on the mic, he leaves most of his talking to Vickie Guerrero, due to her tremendous heat from the fans. However, he's now found himself drifting in the shuffle of Raw's roster. With Alberto Del Rio, The Miz, R-Truth, CM Punk and Nexus, and Drew McIntyre to name a few...there's simply too many mouths to feed, which threatens Dolph Ziggler's chances of staying relevant.

But what if we were to put these two in a feud, together? It would be simple: have Zack Ryder insult Dolph Ziggler about his new look, perhaps taunt him by offering some style tips. Maybe even have him give Dolph and Vickie (if she isn't involved with the aforementioned feud) one of Cody Rhodes' paper bags, as a joke. These two have enough in-ring talent combined to make highlights, and their off-screen friendship lessens the potential for show-stealing between the two of them. Zack could establish himself as a real competitor, and Dolph could stay in the public eye.

Don't tell me this wouldn't be a good feud. You KNOW it.

Feud 4: Christian vs. Randy Orton

4 of 6

Honestly, this should go without saying. I'm going to mention it anyway, because there's a looming fear in the back of my mind...the fear that WWE Creative is going to push Christian aside, so Randy Orton can feud with other stars, notably a returning Chris Jericho or Batista.

I shouldn't have to justify why this feud should happen. Christian is one of the most dedicated wrestlers in the sport, and his tenure in TNA shouldn't hold him back, considering how much he's given to this company. He's built himself from the bottom, twice, and he's done so because Christian is the total package. He's got excellent in-ring talent, and they don't call him Captain Charisma for nothing. Christian needs to be main-eventing, and I don't care what anyone else says to the contrary.

When Christian's title reign came to an abrupt end at the last taping of SmackDown!, I was one of the many fans who were shocked by the decision. However, cooler heads prevail and I knew that this wasn't going to be the end of Christian's title hunt. It'd just be a waste, if it were. A waste of PPV money, a waste of emotional build-up, a waste of Edge's time and a waste of Christian's hard work. I know the WWE Creative team doesn't always make popular decisions...but this would be the equivalent of running head-first into a brick wall if they simply let things end here.

Christian should get another title reign soon, and rightfully so. Orton is in his prime, and can easily occupy himself by working with other talents while Christian takes a moment to admire the view from the top...even if only for a short while.

Let's hope this feud turns out to be more than just a segment of this slide show, shall we?

Feud 5: Christian vs. Ezekiel Jackson

5 of 6

This is my curve-ball of the night, but it might well be the most important feud of the list. Since I've already talked about Christian, let me first get into some background with Ezekiel Jackson.

Ezekiel Jackson was ECW's goliath, back when he was being managed in the promotion by William Regal. His ferocious attitude and haunting proverbs were just small parts to the large presence that was 'Big Zeke'. Though his mic skills weren't the best, he had the raw power and physique to establish himself as a monster heel in the company. After some worthwhile matches with Christian, Ezekiel would go on to claim the ECW Championship, a title he'd retain until ECW's end.

But after this, Zeke would find himself off the radar for a long while, until re-emerging at the 2010 King of the Ring competition. From there, he'd find himself joining The Corre some time afterward, where he'd be the group's imposing muscle. Despite his potential, though, Jackson would be the only member of the group who failed to find some championship gold. This should change, and I know how to make that happen.

Let's say that Ezekiel, now frustrated with his lack of a belt in comparison to the other Corre members he feels are inferior, decides to take his complaints to Teddy Long, or Vince. He makes the case that, since he went out the ECW Champion, and never lost the belt in a match, he should still be a champion and allowed to show his dominance on SmackDown. Since ECW is no more, they couldn't bring back the ECW Championship...but in its place, we could see the return of the Hardcore Title. Given that Christian was the champ who dropped the belt to Zeke, he could emerge as Zeke's contender (should Creative indeed push Christian from the main event).

Not what you were expecting? I can understand that, since I know so many of the IWC feel the WWE desperately needs a return of the Cruiserweight belt. But sadly, it's an ill-fated idea. That title lost all credibility the moment Hornswoggle was allowed to seize it, and so long as the little leprechaun is roaming around the WWE, it can't make a comeback. However, the Hardcore Title would still let the up-and-comers of WWE compete for a title in matches without limits. Imagine seeing guys like Evan Bourne, Justin Gabriel, Tyler Reks, JTG, Chris Masters - people who are getting pushed out from relevancy, despite their raw potential - competing on a weekly basis in PG-13 matches full of high-octane action?

Wouldn't that beat watching these guys get the axe in a few weeks, simply because the WWE has nothing for them to do?

In Conclusion...
