Brock Lesnar: 5 Ways to Regain His Title

Jeffrey McKinneyMay 4, 2011

Brock Lesnar is the most polarizing person in the UFC.

Known for imposing size, dominant wrestling and brash attitude inside the cage,  the former WWE star is also the UFC’s biggest draw.

But Lesnar’s most recent fights have seen his chin get exposed.

After escaping a beat down from Shane Carwin, Lesnar lost his UFC heavyweight title to Cain Velasquez.

At UFC 131, Lesnar will have a chance at a title shot if he can get past Junior Dos Santos.

If Lesnar wants to make it back to the top of the mountain, here are some things he’ll have to do.

Learn How to Take a Punch

1 of 5

Nobody likes to get punched in the face. That’s a given.

But when your job is to fight, you have to be able to take or dodge them.

Lesnar is not going to turn into Lyoto Machida and dodge a bunch of strikes.

The next best option? Start sparring with some of the best strikers in the world.

If you want to be the best, you have to know how to stand against the best.

Train at Different Gyms

Many of the elite champions train in some of the best camps in the world.

Camps like Black House, AKA and Jackson’s MMA have trained guys to challenge for and win titles.

I know Lesnar likes to be close to his family and all, but that’s a part of sacrificing to become a great fighter.

Lesnar has brought some good guys in to help him train from time to time.

But being the top priority in your own camp while you’re still fresh in the business is not going to cut it.

Have Better Defense

I know the picture is not Brock getting beat down by Velasquez, but their bout was no different.

Lesnar will never be elusive, but he’ll have to do something in order to have better defense.

Running around with your back turned and curling up is not defense by any means.

Improve His Striking

Ever since Lesnar’s return from his bout with diverticulitis, his striking has suffered.

Before the illness, he had knocked down Randy Couture, Heath Herring and Frank Mir with punches.

Lesnar was never a one punch KO artist; his striking was able to set up his wrestling and him getting on top of guys.

Work on Submissions

Although he was able to pull off an arm triangle choke on Shane Carwin, Lesnar is no submission artist.

He’s not the type of guy that’s going to try a bunch of stuff unless he knows he has it.

Adding some more submissions will only do wonders, as it will add another element to his game.
