WWE Extreme Rules 2011 Results and Thoughts on the Winners
Last night the baby faces of WWE had a great night as almost every match was one by the designated good guy.
We will start off with the last man standing match.
Orton went in to Extreme Rules with a 2-0 record against Punk in their recent matches. A lot of people expected Punk to walk out the winner this time, but Orton prevailed.

Punk was in need of a win which is why this result confuses me a little. Orton has been on a roll for a long time now and it seems like WWE wants to keep him going in the same direction while on Smackdown. Punk is rumored to be considering leaving WWE when his current contract expires so it could be that WWE did not want to put over someone who is on their way out.
The next match was one I did not even know would be on the card. Kofi defeated Sheamus to win the United States Championship.
Sheamus had attacked Kofi earlier in the week so Teddy Long made the match a tables match for the title. Kofi only recently lost the Intercontinental Title to Wade Barrett so I was a little surprised he was already in the hunt for a different title.
The match saw Kofi get the win after putting Sheamus through a table. Kofi winning another title is just another rung in the ladder of him eventually being a main event-er. Some may doubt Kofi as a major face in WWE but I think he has more potential than some of the guys who have been pushed as World Champion in the past couple years.
I will be quick with my synopsis of the Ross and Lawler vs Cole and Swagger match. This was the one match where the heels took the win of the evening.
Ross and Lawler will probably continue their feud with Cole and Swagger, and I see the good guys eventually going over, but Coles' heel turn is getting too much heat to stop right now.
Another rematch of Wrestlemania opponents saw Rey Mysterio get the win in a falls-count-anywhere match against Cody Rhodes. Rhodes got the win at the big event so it is no surprise that Rey would pick up this victory.
These two have had the most intense feud on Smackdown as of late, and with Rey heading to Raw, this was probably the last we will see of these two facing off for awhile.
Cody always performs well against guys his size or smaller and I think he is in line for a major push soon, possibly going after Kofi or Christian's title.
One of the more anticipated Divas matches in recent history was not even for the Divas title.
Michelle Mccool and Layla went head to head in a "loser leaves WWE" match which saw Layla get the win over her former flawless team member.
Layla needed the win to keep her momentum going as a face, and with Michelle reportedly taking a break from WWE for awhile, it made sense to have the match go this way.
After the match was over, the much awaited debut of the former Awesome Kong—now known as Kharma—finally happened. She came out and attacked Michelle after the match, with all the Divas watching in the back on a monitor.
I want to see Kong vs Phoenix; the two most powerful women in WWE will have to go at it sooner or later. I just hope the WWE gives the Divas matches from here on out the same treatment they gave to Layla and Michelle's feud over the past few weeks.
The World Title match saw Christian fulfill his lifelong dream of becoming WWE World Champion by defeating Alberto Del Rio.
Christian won a match he has been known for most of his career—a ladder match. Many people doubted Christian ever winning a major title in WWE, but I always had hope. He has been a solid performer his entire career and even though it may have only happened because Edge had to retire, it still happened.
The same thing was said about guys like Jeff Hardy ever winning a world title, or Kane and Mysterio holding more than one. Everyone who doubted those predictions was proven wrong, the same way they were last night when Christian got the win.
Another match I didn't know would even happen was Kane and Big Show defending the tag titles against Barrett and Jackson of the Corre.
Kane and Show got the win in the lumberjack match, but the real story may be how the Corre seems to be falling apart lately. There have been more and more instances of disagreements lately and a boiling point is coming closer.
I want to see at least Justin Gabriel turn Face when Corre finally does break up. His style and size are more what you expect to see in a good guy, and his 450 splash always gets a good pop even though he is a heel.
the last match of the night was the triple threat cage match between Morrison, Miz and Cena. The match was originally going to have R Truth instead of Morrison, but after an impromptu match, Morrison found his way into the match.
Truth made his presence known as he prevented Morrison from escaping the cage and winning the WWE title. Truth's heel turn has been good so far and I am looking for him to continue getting pushed.
The real story out of the match is that the most must-see WWE champion lost his title to his arch-nemesis. Cena was victorious and became a 10-time champion. Some people may cringe at the idea of Cena being champion again but I would like to remind everyone that he went almost a year without the title. Despite not being Cena's biggest fan, I am glad he is champion again because there were only so many baby faces Miz could fight over and over.
Overall the night saw the good guys get all but one win.
Christian won his first World Title, Cena won his 10th, Kofi is holding gold again and Kharma made an impact, so to speak. WWE has a new set of champions to lead their shows so we will see tonight on Raw what the fallout will be from last night.
What did you guys think of Extreme Rules last night?
