2011 NFL Trade Rumors: Latest Buzz Around the Web Surrounding Big Names
With the NFL lockout still in place, there are not as many rumors floating around as normal during this time of the season, but there is still plenty of speculation on a few of the league's top trade chips.
Most teams solved their biggest needs during the draft, but multiple teams that would seem to need a new signal-caller neglected to draft one.
There will be some decent options on the market once teams are allowed to makes trades and I would expect some, if not all, of these players to be moved one way or another.
Here is a look at seven players who could potentially be traded or at the very least moved to another destination this season.
Eagles QB Kevin Kolb
1 of 7
Eagles quarterback Kevin Kolb will be one of the most sought-after players on the market once teams can start making moves again, and he should have a good amount of suitors.
The Cardinals, Seahawks and Redskins could all be in the market for a new quarterback this season and Kolb seems to be the top one up for grabs.
I think Seattle would be making a mistake to invest more draft picks on a largely unproven quarterback, just as they did before last season when they traded for Charlie Whitehurst.
The Skins may want to explore options outside of John Beck and Rex Grossman, but I think the most likely landing spot for Kolb is Arizona.
Larry Fitzgerald wants someone who can throw him the football and obviously, he wasn't very convinced that that person is on the Cards' current roster. I think we will ultimately see Kolb playing for the Cardinals this season, and he won't come cheaply.
Titans QB Vince Young
2 of 7
Vince Young was said to be on the block before the lockout went into effect and now that Jake Locker is in the picture, I think it's a done deal; Young has seen his final days in Tennessee.
Young will not receive the kind of interest or package that Kolb will generate, but a team may take a chance on him as a backup, with the possibility of playing later in the season.
I can't see the Seahawks making a play for Young, and with the Cards more likely to go after Kolb, Young may have trouble finding a starting job this season.
I still don't see a scenario where Young returns to the Titans this season, so I expect them to ultimately settle for whatever they can get for their former first-rounder.
Bengals QB Carson Palmer
3 of 7
Speaking of quarterbacks who are done in their current city, Cincinnati quarterback Carson Palmer has a zero percent chance of playing for the Bengals ever again.
Palmer has said that he would rather retire than play for the Bengals and many think he will stay true to his word.
The Bengals drafted TCU quarterback Andy Dalton in the second round and that pick completely sealed Palmer's fate with the team.
I could see Seattle making a play for Palmer, as Pete Carroll reunites with his former Trojan quarterback.
He should not be nearly as expensive as Kolb and the Bengals would be smart to get at least something for him. But we are talking about the Bengals after all, so Palmer sitting out this season is not out of the question.
Saints RB Reggie Bush
4 of 7
The selection of Alabama running back Mark Ingram makes things quite uncertain for Saints running back Reggie Bush.
Bush made it quite clear after his team's selection of Ingram that he believes his time in New Orleans is done. Some believe that Bush will still return to the team this season, but the 26-year-old and the Saints have not made any progress on re-negotiating his deal according to Yahoo! Sports' Jason Cole.
It is quite likely that Bush could be released, but a trade is also possible and the two teams who would seem to make the most sense would be the Chargers and the Dolphins.
Both teams drafted running backs in the draft, but Bush's value would be more in the return game and as a receiver.
Panthers WR Steve Smith
5 of 7
Steve Smith reportedly cleared out his locker and made it clear that he wants out of Carolina.
Some believe that he will have a change of tune now that Cam Newton is the Panthers quarterback, but I'm not buying it.
Smith isn't getting any younger (he's 31 years old) and he wants to win, so it makes sense that he wants out.
I think there will be plenty of suitors for the veteran receiver and his services, and teams like San Diego and Kansas City could show interest given their need for more depth at the position.
Redskins QB Donovan McNabb
6 of 7
The Vikings have been the team linked to McNabb for awhile now, but the team's selection of Christian Ponder makes it harder to see the 34-year-old in Minnesota.
However, it does not seem likely that McNabb will be playing in Washington this season, so there is still a good chance he will be moved.
I would not completely rule out the Vikings when it comes to the veteran quarterback, as they may want to give Ponder more time to develop before putting the rookie signal-caller on the field.
If the price is right, I think Minnesota will be the main suitor to watch.
Cowboys RB Marion Barber
7 of 7
It is possible that Barber will be traded, but it is more likely that he will be cut by the Cowboys when they are able to do so.
Barber is set to get a $500,000 roster bonus and I highly doubt the Cowboys will be willing to pay it for his services.
There probably won't be a big market for the 27-year-old since his production really fell off last season, but I'm sure there will be at least one team that will give Barber a final shot as their backup.
