WWE: Jobbed Morrison, Diary of a Doghouse (Day 14), JoMo Underutilized on RAW

Alfred KonuwaApr 26, 2011

Big Nasty will be keeping a running diary of what should be an epic losing streak/de-push of former WWE rising star John Morrison

Major heat on Morrison stems back to WrestleMania season, when Morrison infamously gave WWE Diva Legend Trish Stratus cold-shoulder treatment leading up to their WrestleMania 27 mixed tag-team match.

Coming off of a RAW where John Morrison was booked in an unfavorable light both intentionally, with the post-match beatdown he suffered at the hands of Heel-Truth, and unintentionally, by way of that horrid promo exchange, Morrison once again found solace in the house show circuit.

Morrison’s strong week at WWE live events overseas saw him pick up four victories over Dolph Ziggler in a quartet of wins in Wales, Austria, Romania, and Qatar.

The strong week, with Morrison's only loss coming in a four-way against Daniel Bryan, Sheamus, and Ziggler, allowed Morrison to finish 8-2 in house shows during WWE’s annual WrestleMania Revenge tour of Europe.  But recent trends suggest Morrison’s on-camera booking will not resemble such dominance.

Morrison’s now ubiquitous online account of him snubbing Trish Stratus has taken on a life of its own, a life which could end up contributing to the death of Morrison’s current push.

Sean “X-Pac” Waltman became the latest former WWE star to weigh in on the backstage incidents between Morrison and Stratus, siding with Stratus and going so far as to say that Morrison owes her an apology.  Waltman may or may not have given a personal shout out to this running diary, written by yours truly, with his use of the word “doghouse.”

"

"I think he should be ashamed...I think he owes Trish a public apology, and deserves to be in doghouse. Total bull---- .”

“I lost a lot of respect for Morrison over that. He may not care, but he f’n should.”

"

One thing Morrison isn’t apologizing for is his decision to grow a beard.  Morrison spoke of the evolution of his character during the week, simplifying reasons behind his recent push over the past year or so by praising his improved facial hair.  Morrison jokingly told the Miami Herald:

"

“I think the main reason people take me more seriously now is my beard.”

"

While a laughable quote at face value, one shouldn’t scoff at the power of facial hair in pro wrestling.  The transcendence of Stone Cold Steve Austin, Shawn Michaels, and Triple H all coincided with their growing of facial hair.

Prior to being bearded, all three of the above mentioned current and future Hall of Famers—yes, even Steve Austin—were pegged as being pretty boys at some point in their career.  Proving to be no exception to the “pretty boy rule” in pro wrestling, Morrison’s pretty boy look also needed an edge in toughness that only a beard could provide.

Needless to say, Morrison currently does not belong in the same sentence as any of the aforementioned legends.

One WWE Hall of Famer with legendary facial hair who Morrison has recently drawn comparisons to, however, is Hulk Hogan

A more detailed account of Morrison’s actions toward Trish Stratus during WrestleMania week included quotes from Morrison, who allegedly said of Stratus’ ideas: “I’m not feeling that,” a dismissive backstage quip made famous by Hogan himself.

Supporters of Morrison have recently come out with their own versions of snubbamania, describing Stratus as a glory hound with a large ego among other things.

For good measure, some backstage sources, in an attempt to attack Stratus’ character, went as far as to suggest that Stratus engaged in an extramarital affair with Vince McMahon.

Go figure, I start a diary detailing the trials and tribulations of a fledgling mid carder and uncover a possible sex scandal involving the most powerful man in sports entertainment.

I call it the anti-Geraldo.

But no matter how many versions to the currently never ending saga between JoMo and Stratus there may be, it eventually comes down to the word of Trish Stratus—a WWE legend and future Hall of Famer—against John Morrison’s.

Judging by the TV booking of Morrison, Trish is winning.

As if this fire needed any more fuel, the PWTorch released details of yet another prevailing dynamic in Cold Shouldergate, putting together a timeline of Melina’s unfavorable backstage history that buried the former Diva’s Champion worse than WWE did.

The account suggests a popular theory behind Morrison’s snubbing of Trish, that Melina had been in Morrison’s ear and influenced him to believe that Stratus was taking her WrestleMania spot.

The theory could give credence to the school of thought that Morrison was simply an innocent victim of a she-devil in his embittered actions towards Stratus, but if that’s the case then WWE should be even more weary of making such an easily manipulated man one of their top guys.

Trish Stratus is one thing, and obviously a big thing at that, but giving the cold shoulder to the Miz prior to a future WrestleMania main event should Melina decide that she doesn’t like Maryse would result in subsequent disaster.

Amidst all the JoMo drama, gray skies may be suddenly be speckled with shades of blue for Morrison with tonight’s RAW featuring an emergency WWE draft presumably designed to stockpile the wounded SmackDown brand with star power.

While Randy Orton is the hot commodity rumored to switch brands, SmackDown is currently in need of more than just Orton, and Morrison’s proverbial get out of jail free card could come with him being drafted tonight.

It also helps that Morrison will be doing the job featured in this Sunday’s WWE Championship match vs. John Cena and The Miz at Extreme Rules, and WWE would be doing themselves no favors in having a third of its main event losing on the go-home show.

RALEIGH, North Carolina – April 25.  The first domestic WWE show since the wrapping of a grueling tour of Europe comes just hours since their last show in Qatar as all hands of a fatigued WWE roster assume the deck.

Few know of what lies ahead for tonight’s draft, including the WWE Superstars who have been forced to stand on the plank only to have their fate decided with a Titantron draft graphic.  The only thing putting a stop to WWE incessantly changing their minds about who gets drafted where is the fact that RAW goes on live at 6 p.m. PST.

Earlier today, Morrison’s embattled boo, WWE Diva Melina, dug herself from beneath the dirt (and possibly another male mistress) long enough to tweet concerns of being split apart from her man, saying:

"

“Tonight is Raw. Very nerve racking.  Thinking of Drafts in the past & I always hated getting torn away from John & Jillian. I miss my Jillo!”

"

Consider that tweet further reason to believe that Morrison may indeed be drafted to SmackDown tonight.

While the buzz died down from SmackDown’s shocking selection of John Cena to kick off the night, WWE aired a top notch promo package showing the highlights of R-Truth’s heel turn from last week.

Fortunately, the much talked about smoking portion was not edited out.

R-Truth came out to a wonderful chorus of boos.  After garnering a cheap pop for mentioning Raleigh, North Carolina, Truth told the fans to “SHUT UP!”

Truth reiterated that last week, John Morrison challenged him for his spot at Extreme Rules.  Truth played to the “what” chants, a known pet peeve of Vince McMahon, but was entertaining in his improvisational annoyance with the Raleigh crowd.

Truth said he spent his entire career trying to be what the fans wanted him to be, but it got him nowhere.  He insulted the fans for being out of tune and having no rhythm while singing and dancing to his entrance music.

Truth then began a comical conversation with a hypothetical child he created named "Lil' Jimmy", who enjoys R-Truth singing in dancing despite the fact that none of those kid-friendly antics put a championship belt around Truth's waist.

Truth said that he’s giving the fans “the boot.”  He said that it felt marvelous when he attacked Morrison, and for the first time the truth had set him free.

This was an awesome promo by R-Truth.  Truth hit all the key points of his heel turn, and was entertaining in his exchanges with the fans without overdoing it.  Many, myself included, were quick to criticize both R-Truth and John Morrison's mic skills as a result of their agonizing exchange from last week.

However, once R-Truth was able to cut a promo by himself, free from the oratorical black hole that is John Morrison, he shined just as he did when he took matters into his own hands to turn heel last week.

Following Truth's promo, John Morrison attacked R-Truth with a shot from behind.  Officials quickly ran down and contained Morrison, but Morrison broke free and attacked Truth once again before being corralled again.

Morrison broke free for a second time before being held back by WWE officials.  RAW went to break.

This was indeed a good start for John Morrison, who got his heat back after taking quite the beating last week.

Unfortunately, the appearance would be both the start and finish as Morrison was not featured on TV for the rest of the night.  Both The Miz and John Cena, who will be in the main event vs. Morrison in the WWE Championship match at Extreme Rules this Sunday, were featured in RAW's main event as Morrison sat inconspicuously amongst a sea of red T-shirts backstage.

I'm not sure the announcers even mentioned that Morrison would be competing in the main event, and even if they did, the general consensus is that Morrison has zero chance to leave Tampa, Florida with the WWE Championship at Extreme Rules.
