WWE Newcomer Sin Cara: Analyzing the High-Flyer's Debut

The Doctor Chris MuellerApr 12, 2011

Last night on WWe Raw the much-anticipated debut of Mexican superstar Sin Cara finally arrived.  The vignettes have been playing for weeks and after two run-ins with other wrestlers last week, it was finally time to see what the man formerly known as Mistico could do.

His entrance looked botched once again, which could be his fault or that of the guy placing his trampoline. It must be one of those things he nails in rehearsal but screws up live.

His entrance doesn't mean much, however, it's his ability inside the ring we want to see.

Sin Cara faced Primo for his inaugural match on Raw. Primo has not been featured much in recent months, other than on Superstars, so I expected it to be a squash match.

I was surprised, however, to see Primo get in as much offense as he did. Other than Primo tripping up on the top rope at the end, I thought it was a great match for the younger Colon brother.

Sin Cara pulled off all the moves we've seen in his promotional videos, including different head scissor variations. It was his finisher, however, that was the highlight of the match.  He performed a C4 from the top rope, which is essentially a backflip while the other fighter does a front flip with both men crashing in a position similar to a Rock Bottom.

Overall, I was happy with Sin Cara's debut, especially when he handled the botched finish like a pro. But I was hoping to see something spectacular.

The match felt mostly like I was watching a cruiserweight match from the WCW days. Pretty good, but not amazing.

I have seen a lot of footage of Cara when he was known as Mistico, and I can say for sure that this guy has a very bright future. The problem may be that some of his high-flying, quick moves may not work as well on the bigger men of WWE.

This means Sin Cara may have to adjust his style, much like Mystrio and Del Rio.

Speaking of Del Rio, I am curious about whether he is mad that Cara got to keep his mask, considering Del Rio was at first told by WWE that he could keep his mask, only to have the decision reversed while he was with the FCW.

Frankly, I think Del Rio is a born heel but taking off the mask is the best thing he could have done for his persona in WWE.

I am hoping we get to see a big Mysterio vs. Sin Cara showdown at some point, because it is well known that Mysterio is dealing with numerous injuries that may force him to retire within the next few years.

We will have to wait to see if Cara makes an appearance on Smackdown or Raw next week to see if he's given a feud to indulge in or if he will just be fighting random mid-card wrestlers for a while, like most newcomers.

What did you guys think of the much-anticipated debut of Sin Cara?
