Week Six Fantasy Football Rankings: Running Backs

Jamal CollierOct 7, 2008

Adrian Peterson managed only 32 yards rushing last week, but the Vikings won the game. So where is he in Week Six's Rankings? You won't need to look far to find him.

These rankings are reflective of how I believe NFL players will perform, from a standard fantasy scoring perspective, in their current situations and Week Six matchups.

  1. Adrian Peterson, MIN(vs DET). The Saints learned that stuffing Adrian Peterson as much as possible is not exactly the way to beat the Vikings. He had single-digit carries going into the half last night, as well. But I’m sure he has no excuses for his short yardage (especially since the Vikings won the game), and will go hard at home against the Lions.
  2. Clinton Portis, WAS(vs STL). The league leader in rushing attempts, Portis single-handedly blew up the Eagles’ run defense statistics in Week 5. His reward? The Rams, who have allowed more than 200 yards on the ground twice in their four games.
  3. Maurice Jones-Drew, JAX (at DEN). I’m starting any back going against the Broncos until further notice.
  4. Matt Forte, CHI(at ATL). With Kyle Orton looking good and keeping defenses honest, Forte should have a great showing against a Falcons defense that has allowed three team 100-yard rushing days including two of 150 or more.
  5. Brandon Jacobs, NYG(at CLE). Brandon. Jacobs. Is. A. Beast. And the Browns’ defense is not…anti-beastly.
  6. Ronnie Brown, MIA(at HOU). Ronnie Brown has been hot the last two games. Keep him active.
  7. Steven Jackson, STL (at WAS). Steven Jackson essentially is the Rams’ offense. He should score again this week, and make it two games straight.
  8. Marion Barber, DAL (at ARI). He’s not exactly splitting carries… yet.
  9. Steve Slaton, HOU (vs MIA). The guy scored two touchdowns and rushed for 93 yards last week against the Colts. It’s time to be a believer.
  10. LaDainian Tomlinson, SD (vs NE). Relax, he’s still in the top-10 this week. But LT is slipping with his toe injury. Look for him to rebound well after a bye week’s (9) rest if he doesn’t further aggravate it, but monitor him closely until then.
  11. Reggie Bush, NO (vs OAK). A prime example of why guys on special teams have added value.
  12. Frank Gore, SF (vs PHI). The stud running back in his game who is healthy.
  13. Brian Westbrook, PHI (at SF). Westbrook is banged up with broken ribs. The 49ers have still allowed over 100 yards on the ground to running backs in four out of five games.
  14. Fred Taylor, JAX (at DEN). See: Jones-Drew, Maurice.
  15. Darren McFadden, OAK (at NO). If the Saints focus on stopping the run as much as they did last week, McFadden will struggle. But the Raiders’ rushing attack is less dangerous than Minnesota’s, so they may not.
