The Ultimate Fighter Lesnar vs. Dos Santos: Top 10 Submissions in TUF History
The Ultimate Fighter has provided some memorable moments in its 13 seasons of existence. On some occasions, fighters' behavior outside of the cage has drawn more attention than the fights themselves.
However, the following submissions were able to overshadow those non-fight antics. Here are the 10 most spectacular and meaningful submissions in the history of The Ultimate Fighter.
10. Efrain Escudero (vs. Junie Browning)
1 of 10
As a lightweight fighter on Team Nogueira during Season 8 of The Ultimate Fighter, Efrain Escudero met Junie Browning in the semifinals on his way to winning winning the tournament.
In the fight, Escudero was able to finish Browning, one of the craziest personalities in the history of the show, with a perfectly executed D'arce choke during the second round.
Despite a 3-2 record with the organization, Escudero was cut from the UFC after failing to make weight and then losing to Charles Oliveira. Since being released, Escudero has won three in a row and has a fight against Fabricio Camoes coming up in May 2011.
9. Vinny Magalhaes (vs. Krzysztof Soszynski)
2 of 10
Also a member of Team Nogueira on Season 8 of The Ultimate Fighter, Vinny Magalhaes executed two of the smoothest looking submissions in the show's history before losing in the finals to Ryan Bader.
In his submission victory over Krzysztof Soszynski in the semifinals, Magalhaes secured an armbar against the former bodybuilder with relative ease.
Magalhaes was eventually cut by the UFC after a loss to Eliot Marshall but has currently won five of his last six fights. Magalhaes will fight Viktor Nemkov in his next fight later this month.
8. Amir Sadollah (vs. C.B. Dollaway I)
3 of 10
Likely on his way to losing the semifinal fight, Amir Sadollah pulled off a timely arm bar to defeat C.B. Dollaway and move onto the finals of Season 7 of The Ultimate Fighter.
Sadollah was originally supposed to fight Jesse Taylor in the finals, but Taylor was replaced and Sadollah would have a rematch with Dollaway.
7. Nate Diaz (vs. Gray Maynard)
4 of 10
During Season 5 of The Ultimate Fighter, Nate Diaz met Gray Maynard in the semifinals.
In the fight, Diaz baited Maynard into a guillotine choke, which forced a tap and sent Diaz onto the finals against Manny Gamburyan. Diaz eventually defeated Gamburyan due to a shoulder injury to win the tournament.
In January 2010, Diaz and Maynard met again. In the rematch, Maynard defeated Diaz by split decision. After losing to Maynard, Diaz moved to the welterweight division.
6. Stephan Bonnar (vs. Mike Swick)
5 of 10
All the way back in Season 1 of The Ultimate Fighter, Stephan Bonnar met Mike Swick in the semifinals. With seconds remaining in the first round, Bonnar forced a submission with a triangle choke and armbar combination.
The win over Swick set up what would become the greatest fight in series history between Bonnar and Forrest Griffin. Of course, Bonnar would lose to Griffin in a decision, but he has gone on to have a very respectable UFC career.
5. Mac Danzig (vs. Tommy Speer)
6 of 10
With his rear-naked choke submission of Tommy Speer, Mac Danzig secured the tournament win in Season 6 of The Ultimate Fighter.
Since winning the tournament, though, Danzig has had trouble finding consistency in the UFC. Overall, Danzig is 4-4 with the organization. However, Danzig did score a very important knockout victory over Joe Stevenson in his last fight.
Now, Danzig is scheduled to fight former WEC fighter Donald Cerrone at UFC 131 in June 2011.
4. Court McGee (vs. Kris McCray)
7 of 10
A former drug addict, Court McGee used The Ultimate Fighter to turn his life around.
After losing in a controversial decision to Nick Ring, McGee was brought back into the tournament as a replacement, and he made the most of it. McGee made it all the way to the finals, where he was able to submit Kris McCray with a rear naked choke to win the Season 11 tournament.
McGee has fought once in the UFC since beating McCray and came away with another submission victory over Ryan Jensen. McGee had been expected to fight Jesse Bongfeldt but was forced to pull out of the fight with an injury.
3. James Wilks (vs. DaMarques Johnson)
8 of 10
Yet another fighter to win a tournament with a rear-naked choke, James Wilks defeated DaMarques Johnson in the finals of Season 9. Wilks secured the submission with less than 10 seconds remaining in the first round of the fight.
Since defeating Johnson, Wilks has not been able to find much success in the UFC with a record of 1-2. Wilks was expected to fight Duane Ludwig recently but was forced to withdraw from the bout due to injury.
2. Amir Sadollah (vs. C.B. Dollaway II)
9 of 10
Amir Sadollah submitted C.B. Dollaway with an armbar two fights in a row to become The Ultimate Fighter in Season 7. Dollaway knew what was coming, and he still couldn't defend it.
Since winning the tournament, Sadollah has been mildy successful in the UFC with a record of 4-2.
1. Travis Lutter (vs. Patrick Cote)
10 of 10
Travis Lutter and Patrick Cote met in the finals of a Season 4 tournament to determine the top contender in the middleweight division.
With a first-round armbar, Lutter defeated Cote and earned a title shot against Anderson Silva. However, Lutter failed to make weight for the fight with Silva, so the title was not on the line, but Silva was able to defeat Lutter anyway.
