Klitschko Brothers Are Set To Batter an Englishman and a Pole

Colin LinneweberApr 7, 2011

The Klitschko brothers officially decided Wednesday which one of the two will fight former WBC world light heavyweight champion “Granire Chin” Tomasz Adamek and who will battle WBA titlist David “The Hayemaker” Haye.

IBF, IBO and WBO king “Dr. Steelhammer” Wladimir Klitschko is tentatively scheduled to scrap Haye (25-1, 23 KOs) in a heavyweight unification bout July 2 at the SAP Arena in Mannheim, Germany.

Conversely, WBC heavyweight champion “Dr. Iron Fist” Vitali Klitschko is tenuously slated to meet Adamek September 10 in “Granite Chin’s native country of Poland.

"It's pretty simple: Wladimir was the first one in 2009 who wanted to face Haye after Haye attacked him first, verbally in London at a press conference for a charity cause," said the brothers manager, Bernd Boente, to ESPN.com. "From the beginning it was always going in that direction. From the contract side it's possible it could change but, as of now, they made the decision between themselves."

Adamek will fight “The Clones Colossus” Kevin McBride Saturday night at the Prudential Center in Newark, N.J.

Provided that Adamek (43-1, 28 KOs) manages to emerge victorious over Dorchester’s McBride (35-8-1, 29 KOs), he will clash with Vitali this fall.

"It will be Wladimir fighting Haye and Vitali is fighting Adamek, but Adamek has to win or he's out," Boente said.

For nearly two years, Haye has run his mouth like a clown pocket without putting a granule of action behind his words.

Haye, the former unified cruiserweight champion who relinquished his crowns to emulate the heavyweight accomplishments of Evander Holyfield, last fought in March when he defeated Methuen’s John Ruiz (44-9-1-1, 30 KOs) by a ninth-round TKO.

Haye possesses decent power in both of his fists and he is extremely quick and in superb physical condition.

Hence, “The Hayemaker” hasn’t been trumped since he lost to Carl Thompson (34-6, 25 KOs) by a fifth round TKO at Wembley Arena in October 2004.

Unfortunately for the boisterous Englishman, Wladimir (55-3, 49 KOs) will easily knock Haye onto Queer Street within eight rounds to hand him his second loss as a professional this summer.

As for Vitali (42-2, 38 KOs), Adamek, 34, is also a past IBF, IBO and The Ring Magazine cruiserweight titlist.

Adamek suffered his only defeat as a professional against “Bad” Chad Dawson (29-1-0-1, 17 KOs) by unanimous decision in February 2007.

Since that loss, Adamek has won 12 consecutive prizefights.

Adamek’s an aggressive boxer who has proven he can withstand powerful blows.

Nevertheless, he has never confronted a man of Vitali’s caliber.

Vitali, who as an accomplished kickboxer amassed an impressive mark of 34-1 with 22 knockouts, is an extremely tough Ukrainian and his ring prowess cannot be questioned.

In April 2000, “Dr. Iron Fist” easily outclassed Chris Byrd (40-6-1, 22 KOs) for nine rounds before he was forced to quit on his stool due to a torn rotator cuff that he suffered during the action.

In June 2003, Vitali was beating one of the greatest heavyweight champions ever, Lennox Lewis (41-2-1, 32 KOs), after six rounds of captivating action.

Unfortunately, and justifiably, the referee halted the contest prior to the start of round seven and awarded Lewis the victory due to a drastically severe gash over Vitali’s left eye.

Hence, Vitali Klitschko has never been genuinely trumped as a pro.

Vitali has not once been knocked to the canvas in a professional contest and he owns the highest knockout percentage (95) of any heavyweight in history.

Adamek does own a “Granite Chin” and he can sustain a powerful blow.

Still, Vitali will render Adamek defenseless on the canvas when they face each other.

Within a span of five months, the Klitschko brothers will batter an Englishman and a Pole.
