'Supremacy MMA' Adds First Two Female Fighters in MMA Video Game History

Mitchell CiccarelliFeb 24, 2011

If you’ve ever played a mixed martial arts video game before and felt as if something extremely vital was missing from the gameplay, something with boobs (and I’m not talking about Roy Nelson), then you are about to get the satisfaction you have been craving.

Global video game publisher 505 Games and developer Kung Fu Factory have revealed today that two of the most talented prospects in Women’s MMA, Michele “Diablita” Gutierrez and Felice “Lil Bulldog” Herrig, will appear in Supremacy MMA.

They will become the first playable female fighters in the history of MMA video games.

“Female fighters are not represented in MMA games and face a giant glass ceiling in the fighting world,” said Ricci Rukavina, CEO and Creative Director, Kung Fu Factory. “We’re proud to be a part of raising their profile and giving these tough-as-nails fighters their due in the virtual cage.”

Supremacy MMA, which is slated for a June 2011 release for the Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3 consoles, isn’t your average MMA game. It embraces a fast and furious gameplay and the bone crushing brutality of underground fighting.

The game doesn’t feature traditional MMA rules, as they state on their website, Supremacy MMA doesn’t pull any punches.

There are several techniques that fighters in the game can use that are considered illegal in sanctioned MMA competition.

Herrig, an XFO, UEC and Bellator vet, is one of the deadliest kickboxers in her division. She was a former IKF Women’s bantamweight North American champion in kickboxing before transitioning into MMA.

Nicknamed “Lil Bulldog” for her relentless power, Herrig feels honored to be a part of video game history.

“Being one of the first women to represent MMA in a videogame is a dream come true for me,” said Herrig. “This is our chance to finally show gamers that female fighters can hold their own.”

Gutierrez aka “Diablita” is also incredibly excited to become digitized.

The lone female brawler on the WAND Fight Team and my new fictional wife recently spoke to me about her desire to pound a hole in Lindsay Lohan’s face and her thoughts on UFC President Dana White’s resentment towards Women’s MMA in an article I published right here on Bleacher Report MMA.

“Joining the roster of fighters for Supremacy MMA is definitely awesome,” said Gutierrez. “The game takes a totally different approach to MMA so I think it’s perfect that this is the game that features women for the first time.”

Women’s MMA has been growing exponentially over the years and, more often than not, a female fight tends to produce one of the most action packed bouts on a card.

Peter Matiss, the VP of marketing for 505 games recognizes this and jumped at the opportunity to feature female fighters in his game.

“Bringing playable female fighters to fans in Supremacy MMA represents the strong stance we’re taking in bringing a totally unique game to market,” said Matiss.

“Michele and Felice fight with the same ferocity and heart as any other fighter, regardless of gender, and we are proud to represent these strong, determined women in our game.”
