WWE Royal Rumble 2011: Ranking the 10 Most Dominant Wrestlers in Rumble History

Tom KinslowJun 7, 2018

WWE Royal Rumble 2011 is tonight and with tonight's battle royale taking center stage with a record 40 contestants, we're looking back at the history of the big match and breaking down the 10 superstars that dominated the match during their careers.

It's a great match and plenty of great superstars have come through and dominated, so if you have any thoughts and comments, make sure to leave them below.

Who do you think is the most dominant superstar of all time?

No. 10: Rey Mysterio

1 of 10

Any time you go the longest stretch of time in the ring, you have to be recognized somehow.

Rey Mysterio won the 2006 Royal Rumble and did so as the second entrant. He lasted one hour, two minutes and 13 seconds en route to the victory and the eventual title win at WrestleMania. Sure, it was because he was close to the late Eddie Guerrero, but it was impressive nonetheless.

That's a record that will be hard to top by any entrant.

No. 9: Edge

2 of 10

The Rated R Superstar won last year's Royal Rumble, but he was making a huge impact long before that breakthrough.

Edge has eliminated 17 people across six Royal Rumble appearances, which puts him at eighth all-time. It's impressive that a guy who was mostly known as a tag team superstar for a good chunk of his run managed to make such an impact.

His win was deserved for all of the work he put in during his career, especially those insane TLC matches.

No. 8: Big Show

3 of 10

When the Big Show's music hit during a Royal Rumble, you knew you were in for a dominant performance.

Show has put together some of the most impressive displays in Rumble history and has come close to victories a couple of times. Big Show has eliminated 19 opponents in seven Royal Rumbles, but his most impressive performance might have come in the 2001 Royal Rumble, when Show came in, eliminated Test by press slamming him over the top rope and then choke-slammed the entire ring of superstars.

Sure, the Rock eliminated him shortly after his entrance, but it was a dominant performance and left the Rock broken on the outside with a choke-slam through the announcer table.

No. 7: Chris Benoit

4 of 10

Before Rey Mysterio came along, Chris Benoit was the Royal Rumble's iron man.

Starting out as the first entrant in 2004, Benoit went on to win the Royal Rumble in a time of one hour, one minute and 30 seconds. Benoit also went on to win the championship from Triple H at WrestleMania. Not only that, but for only four Royal Rumble appearances, Benoit was dominant.

He eliminated 14 superstars over those four appearances and was one of the more impressive stars in WWE history.

No. 6: Triple H

5 of 10

It's about time we got to play the Game.

Triple H won the 2002 Royal Rumble coming off of a devastating quadriceps tear that kept him out of action for almost a year. Not only that, but the Game has eliminated 17 other wrestlers in his career, putting him at sixth all time.

Triple H also lasted one hour and nine seconds in 2006, the fourth longest appearance in Royal Rumble history.

No. 5: The Undertaker

6 of 10

The Deadman is one of the most decorated superstars in WWE history and his Royal Rumble resume reflects that.

The Undertaker won the Royal Rumble in 2007, but not only that, he's been in the Rumble match 10 times and eliminated 34 superstars, good enough for fourth on the all time list. However, who could forget the 2002 Royal Rumble?

Taker was eliminated by Maven and proceeded to take Maven out of the ring and beat him senseless throughout the arena, culminating by throwing him headfirst through a popcorn machine and then eating a few kernels.

That was classic Deadman right there.

No. 4: Hulk Hogan

7 of 10

The Hulkster is one of the most dominant wrestlers in wrestling history and owned the Royal Rumble during his prime.

Hulk Hogan was only in four Royal Rumbles, but he eliminated a whopping 27 superstars over those four contests. The next highest with that amount of appearances is Chris Benoit, who eliminated 14 superstars in four runs.

Hogan also won back to back Royal Rumbles in 1990 and 1991, rounding out his amazing resume.

No. 3: Kane

8 of 10

Kane put forth the most dominant Royal Rumble performance of all time, earning him the third spot on this list.

Kane threw 11 men over the top rope in 2001 and just did work as he cruised through the field, but did not win the Rumble match. He has never won the match, but has always done well in the contest. In fact, he's eliminated 36 superstars in his career (35 as Kane, one as Issac Yankem).

He deserved a Rumble win, but like Kane's whole career, he's been overlooked.

No. 2: Shawn Michaels

9 of 10

While the Heartbreak Kid is Mr. Wrestlemania, he's also in the conversation for Mr. Royal Rumble as well.

Michaels has eliminated 39 superstars in his legendary career, which is the most of all time. He's been in 12 Royal Rumble matches and did it back to back in 1995 and 1996, which is impressive to say the least. Michaels is one of the greatest to ever do it and watching him hang on the ropes and pull himself back in is always amazing to watch.

He could arguably be first on this list, if it wasn't for the next man.

No. 1: Stone Cold Steve Austin

10 of 10

Stone Cold Steve Austin is the greatest Royal Rumble performer of all time.

Austin eliminated a whopping 36 superstars over six Royal Rumble appearances, putting him second behind Shawn Michaels for the top spot. However, Austin has won three Royal Rumble matches, the most of any superstar in WWE history.

He's one of the greatest WWE superstars of all time and it's not a shock that he did so well in the Rumble matches.
