WWE Royal Rumble Preview: Predicting the Winners of Each Match

Joe M.Jun 7, 2018

One of WWE's biggest pay-per-views is less than one week away and we've all been hearing the buzz about it for quite some time now.

While the biggest attraction is the now-40-Man Royal Rumble Match where the winner goes on to main event WrestleMania 27 in Atlanta this April, there are a few other matches on the card that should not be overlooked.

Read though my predictions for this year's Royal Rumble and, as always, leave a comment with what you think and your own predictions, also.

You can also send me an e-mail at joe@wrestleslam.com

Divas Championship: Natalya (c) vs. LayCool

1 of 4

We'll start with the throw-away.  WWE has trained their fans not to care about the Divas matches and to expect nothing, so that is what I am expecting...nothing.

The winner, I see Natalya walking away with the title here, although, it wouldn't exactly be the shocker of the year if LayCool took the title back.

And as a side note, it is flat out ridiculous WWE is having a two-Diva team up for the single Divas Championship.  They were co-Divas Champions before, so they may do it again, but it was a bad move then and it would be a bad move now.

I just hope this match is done right before the Rumble so I can take a bathroom break and get a snack.

World Heavyweight Championship: Edge (c) vs. Dolph Ziggler

2 of 4

This seems pretty obvious, it seems like there is no way Dolph Ziggler can win the World Heavyweight Championship at all, let alone this close to WrestleMania.

I do think that Edge will retain, however, look at Sheamus, WWE threw the WWE Title on him out of nowhere in late-Decemer, also not too far from WrestleMania.

While my pick for this one is Edge, never say never, it would be a shock if Dolph won, but part of me wouldn't be all that surprised.

WWE Championship: The Miz (c) vs. Randy Orton

3 of 4

This match would steal the show at any other event, however, this event happens to sport a 40-Man Battle Royal as the main event, so while this won't be the match of the night, it should be a great match.

The Miz has improved tremendously in the ring since his debut and Randy Orton is, well, Randy Orton.  This match has extreme potential and I am expecting big things.

I have to go with The Miz retaining here.  They just put the WWE Title on him and I have trouble understanding why they would not only take the title off The Miz, but put it right back on the guy he won it from.

Maybe we'll see some Alex Reilly intervention, maybe The Miz will knockout the referee, maybe it will end in a disqualification or count out, but, while he may not go over Orton clean, I do think The Miz will be walking out the WWE Champion.

40-Man Royal Rumble Match

4 of 4

The biggest Royal Rumble Match ever!

Anyone who says they shouldn't have done this, I have one question, "Why?"

I understand it's tradition, but is 10 more guys going to do anything except make the match we all love last a little longer and a bit more exciting?  Yes, those 10 guys might be Primos and Zack Ryders, but even low-carders are exciting to watch in the Rumble, provided there are some bigger names in the ring also, and there will be.  Anyone who says it will be too hectic, there won't be 40 guys in there at once, they will still filter out superstars regularly, but from my view, this is a good move and will only help.  Once again, I understand 30-Men was a tradition, but 10 more guys sounds good to me.

One of two things will happen, an established main eventer will win, or a new, younger superstar will win. Personally, I'd like to see an already-established superstar win, and I think that's what will happen.

While it's not completely out of the realm of possibility for a young superstar to win, this is the Royal Rumble and even WWE knows this is too big of a platform to launch a rookie's push from.  If the push fails, they've wasted a Royal Rumble and that's not a risk I think they will take.

So, I do think an established main eventer will win the Rumble, but who?  Truth is, it's anyone's guess.  WWE has done a good job of keeping the Rumble hush-hush this year, no return spoilers have surfaced, no special entrants and they haven't blatantly hinted at a winner on TV, nothing.  Even though Triple H is expected to return, nothing is confirmed.  Given the current confirmed list of participants, no one in particular jumps out, although like I said, I do think an established main eventer will win.  And a Triple H return seems likely.
