Harvey Langi Commits to Utah over USC, Stanford: What It Means for Utah Football

Harvey Langi, the prized undeclared running back from South Jordan, Utah made his commitment public today at the U.S. Army All-American Bowl. He'll play next year at Utah.

Langi, the 31st-ranked running back, chose the Utes over USC and Stanford.

The Utes will make the change from the Mountain West Conference to the Pac-12 but Langi's decision to spurn two Pac-10 powers in USC and Stanford, which is coming of a 12-1 season and Orange Bowl victory, is sure to raise eyebrows.

Still, you can't discount Utah's success and the potential impact the Utes will have in a power conference. Utah went 10-3 this season with losses coming to only TCU, Notre Dame and Boise State and finished the year ranked No. 19 in the country.

There's no doubt that Langi will only improve the Utes' 23rd-ranked offense and add to their 152 rushing yards per game average.

In Langi, Utah receives a bruising runner. With only two directions on his map—north and south—Langi punishes opponents and projects as a potential top-ranked fullback, according to Scout.com. While at Bingham High School, Langi rushed for 4,289 yards and 55 touchdowns in three years. The 6'1", 220-pounder also boasts a 4.5 time in the 40-yard dash.

Langi adds to what is certainly a strong recruiting class for Utah and head coach Kyle Whittingham. Langi will provide plenty of versatility and dependability in the backfield along with Jarrell Oliver, a 3-star recruit from Texas. Langi was undoubtedly targeted to support and grow with Derek Brown, the No. 23 quarterback, who has also committed to Utah.

The move to the Pac-12 from the Mountain West will certainly be a big one for Utah. With Langi's decision to attend Utah over Stanford and USC, it appears the Utes are already making a splash in one of the nation's best conferences.
