Best of the Best Series: Jimmie Johnson's Top 10 Sprint Cup Paint Schemes

Welcome to the second slideshow in the "best of the best" series, which will highlight a different driver each week, showcasing their top 10 best paint schemes.

Over the years of a driver's career, they run a variety of paint schemes. Some you will see repetitively and some you will only see once, though there are always certain ones that leave an impact.

The first driver featured last week was Dale Earnhardt Jr.

The second driver featured is the series champion—Jimmie Johnson. Over his Sprint Cup Series career, he has run 18 different paint schemes.

No. 10: 2005 Lowe's Paint Scheme

Title: Lowe's Primary Paint Scheme

Why?: This was the first year that the idea of the curves entered into the Lowe's paint scheme and it represented something that would be seen for every year to come. Also, the silver and blue went well together with the yellow writing popping out well.

No. 9: Shamu Seaworld Paint Scheme

Year: 2006

Month: July

Track: Daytona

Title: Shamu Sea World

Why?: When it came to a summer race, it was fitting to have the whale on the side of the Chevrolet with the water. Plus, with Daytona not being far from Sea World's Orlando vacation, it was a good setting for that. The colors and how the whale pops out on the hood added an extra effect that appealed to fans.

Track: Auto Club Speedway (California)

Title: Jimmie Johnson Foundation

Why?: This marked the first year of the Foundation car and a lot of people were applauding it because of its significance. It also marked a good spot for them to debut it since Auto Club Speedway is Johnson's home track. Lastly, with the car being mostly white, it had that nice shine under the bright lights.

No. 7: SpongeBob Squarepants

Year: 2003

Title: SpongeBob Squarepants

Why?: This marked the first special paint scheme for Johnson in his Sprint Cup career. Also, a lot of people felt a connection to it with the childhood character of SpongeBob displayed on the car. Lastly, like the Shamu car, the mix of different tones of blue added to the car's likability.

No. 6: 2008 Lowe's

Title: 2008 Lowe's Primary Scheme

Why?: This marked the first year of the combination of black, blue and yellow on the car. Everyone thought the yellow number popped well on the blue, yet it even popped out better on the black. The color combination presented brought forth a lot of applause as people appreciated the colors and the way they were blended together on the car.

Title: Power of Pride

Why?: The memorial day tributes started in 2007 with this paint scheme and since then, they have received praise from fans every year. The original paint scheme still strikes the most pride via the words written and their meaning, along with the design element of the paint scheme. "Power of Pride" can equal many things in each individual's mind; however they all equal the patriotism that was wanted with this paint scheme.

Why?: Since the debut of the paint scheme in 2007, Johnson has done one each year. This happens to be the one that stands out for a lot of people due to the simplicity of the design and how the blue, white and yellow in the number worked well together.

Title: Always In Our Hearts

Why?: Following the plane crash, Hendrick Motorsports debuted this paint scheme at Atlanta to pay tribute to the 10 people who were lost. A lot of people fell in love with the paint scheme due to the sentimental value held behind it.

No. 2: 2010 Lowe's

Month: All Year

Track: Variety

Title: Lowes' Primary Paint Scheme

Why?: This past season marked the debut of white and blue on the No. 48 Lowe's Chevrolet, in which many fans fell in love with due to the simplicity and how it was designed. Part of it probably also had to do with how their driver and crew would be dressed in white.

No. 1: Kobalt

Months: Variety

Tracks: Variety

Title: Kobalt

Why?: Since the debut of this paint scheme, it has received praise from many fans as they prefer to see it run over the primary paint scheme. The silver, black and yellow presents eye-popping colors that present well to the fans. The ideology that silver is the championship color, and that their driver is the best makes this popular for Johnson fans.

So far we have featured the most popular driver and the 2010 champion and have discovered that favourite paint schemes not only deal with the design elements of the car, but also the meaning behind the design.
