WWE Survivor Series: Match by Match Breakdown and Results

Joe M.Nov 21, 2010

Today was WWE's 24th annual Survivor Series pay-per-view event.  After 2009's Survivor Series event drew a buyrate WWE was not happy with, Vince McMahon announced that the event would be discontinued.  The fans then spoke up and made it clear that it was not Survivor Series we did not like and we wanted it back.  Early in 2010, WWE announced that Survivor Series would not be discontinued and would be taking place on November 21, 2010.  Here we are, after the event.  Read on for a match by match breakdown.

United States Championship: Daniel Bryan Def. Ted DiBiase

1 of 10

Very nice way to open the show.  Daneil Bryan is one of, if not the, best technical wrestlers in the world and I don't recall a match he was in that was not good, at the least.  DiBiase in his own right is very talented in the ring.  With both these guys, the match never stopped, never had a dull point.  MId way through the match Bryan did a suicide dive and landed virtually vertical, looking like he legitimately injured his shoulder.  After a great match, DiBiase tapped to Bryan.

On a scale of 1-10, this match gets an 8.5

The Miz and Alex Reilly Talk

2 of 10

On his way to the back, Daniel Bryan is attacked by The Miz and Alex Reilly who walk out to the ring to do what they do best, talk.  He's from Cleveland, they are in Miami, so, obviously, he spends a nice chunk of time talking about Lebron James and ends with "I'm Awesome".

John Morrison Def. Sheamus

3 of 10

Next on the card we had Sheamus vs. John Morrison.  This really is a big match for Morrison, he is getting a nice push and this is one of his first singles pay-per-view matches, not including his time in ECW.  The storyline behind this match was nothing special, and the match wasn't anything special either.  John Morrison is quick and Sheamus has the size and power, it's a combination that makes for a great match, but this match was dragged out way to long.  Sheamus dominated for most of the match, I would've liked to see a bit more out of Morrison, especially because he is the one getting the push.  The match was Sheamus dominating Morrison and then Morrison quickly picking up the win.

On a scale of 1-10, this match gets a 5

Intercontinental Championship: Dolph Ziggler Def. Kaval

4 of 10

Next up was Dolph Ziggler vs. Kaval for the Intercontinental Championship.  Dolph Ziggler is alright in the ring, as is Kaval, and this match could have been much better than it turned out.  The match was slow, long grapples and too much time spent punching and kicking.  There were a few spots that weren't dull, Kaval did have some nice spots, but as a whole the match was just not that good.  The match ended when Dolph Ziggler rolled up Kaval.

On a scale of 1-10, this match gets a 4.

Team Rey Mysterio Def. Team Alberto Del Rio

5 of 10

The next match on the card is the only Traditional Survivor Series Elimination Tag Team Match of the night, Team Rey Mysterio (Rey Mysterio, Big Show, Chris Masters, MVP, and Kofi Kingston) vs. Team Alberto Del Rio (Alberto Del Rio, Jack Swagger, Cody Rhodes, Drew McIntyre, and Tyler Reks).

Elimination 1 - MVP
Elimination 2 - Chris Masters
*Big Show KO'ed Alberto Del Rio and Del Rio was removed from the match
Elimination 3 -  Cody Rhodes
Elimination 4 - Tyler Reks
Elimination 5 - Kofi Kingston
Elimination 6 - Jack Swagger
Elimination 7 - Drew McIntyre

The match played out nicely.  Having Big Show and Rey as the survivors was somewhat predicable, but the match was by no means a bad match.

On a scale of 1-10, this match gets a 7.5.

Divas Championship: Natalya Def. LayCool

6 of 10

The next match on the card was LayCool vs. Natalya in a 2-on-1 Handicap Match for the Divas Championship.  The match was surprisingly good.  The fact that it is a 2-on-1 Match for a championship is ridiculous, but the match was not terrible.  Natalya is one of the few Divas that can actually hold her own in a wrestling match and definitely carried this match.  It was a short match, but for a Divas match, it impressed me.  After the match, LayCool attacked Natalya, which lead to Beth Phoenix running out to Natalya's rescue, making her return from a torn ACL.

On a scale of 1-10, this match gets a 6.

World Heavyweight Championship: Kane Def. Edge

7 of 10

Next up we have the World Heavyweight Championship Match, Kane vs. Edge.  Kane makes his entrance and Edge comes out pushing a wheelchair without Paul Bearer.  The match gets off to a slow start, but slowly picked up to an alright pace.  It could have been better, but I can't complain about the match.  After kicking out of a chokeslam, Edge spears Kane.  Both Kane and Edge pin each other at the same time and they both get the three count.  The ref announces this is a tie and a tie goes to the champion.  After the match ends, Edge gets Kane in the wheelchair and pushes him through the ringside barricade.

On a scale of 1-10, this match gets a 6.

Tag Team Championships: Slater & Gabriel Def. Santino and Kozlov

8 of 10

The second to last match of the night is for the WWE Tag Team Championships, Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater vs. Santino Marella and Vladimir Kozlov.  After a pretty short, but not horrible match Heath Slater and Justin Gabriel pick up the win.
After the match, the anonymous Raw GM sends in an e-mail reminding everyone that Nexus is banned from ringside during the upcoming WWE Championship match.

On a scale of 1-10, this match gets a 4.5

WWE Championship: Randy Orton Def. Wade Barrett

9 of 10

The main event of the night was Randy Orton vs. Wade Barrett for the WWE Championship, with John Cena as the Special Guest Referee.  The stipulation being that if Barrett wins, John Cena is free from Nexus, however if Barrett loses, Cena is fired from WWE.  The match itself has been overshadowed by the John Cena stipulation, but the match turned out to be a very good in its own right.  Having Cena as the guest ref added an extra kick to the match, in a good way.  In the end Orton hit an RKO on Barrett and Cena gave Orton the three count.
After the match, The Nexus came out to collect Wade Barrett and Cena gives Randy Orton the WWE Championship.

On a scale of 1-10, this match gets a 7.5

John Cena Says Goodbye

10 of 10

John Cena stayed in the ring after Orton left and went around ringside saying goodbyes to the fans (and to Michael Cole).  Cena walks through the arena, saying goodbye to all the fans and hugging everybody he can get his hands on.
WWE did a nice job of making this look like a legitimate goodbye.  We all know Cena will be back, but it was a good move having Cena stay after and do this to give this angle the extra touch.
