College Football: Friday Facts and Oregon Duck Game Predictions vs. Cal
Once again, the Oregon Ducks head on the road looking to keep there perfect season in tact. This week, they head out to play Cal who has had a split personality this year, playing one way on the road and the complete opposite at home.
Oregon rolled past Washington last week and hope to keep their current offense pace, while Cal will certainly look to slow the game down and try to control the flow as best as possible.
As hard as Cal may try, they will not be able to slow down the Oregon offense. Oregon should be able to have the game in control early in the third quarter and roll to a victory. Here are some other things you can look for tomorrow.
Darron Thomas Carries The Ball Under 10 Times
1 of 7
Last week, Oregon lost their backup quarterback, Nate Costa, to a knee injury and this will play a large part in the offensive gameplan this week. Early in the year, the strategy seemed to be for leaning on LaMichael James and Kenjon Barner and not have Darron Thomas take too many hits on keepers.
I expect this will be the plan they have in place for Thomas this week. Without the safety of Costa, look for Thomas to continue to hand the ball of on the read option.
Jeff Maehl Extends The Touchdown Streak To Eight
2 of 7
As the season has wore on, not only has Darron Thomas gotten better but Jeff Maehl has continued to score. In the past seven weeks, Maehl has been finding his way into the endzone weekly and will continue that streak this week.
Cliff Harris Gets in The Endzone
3 of 7
For the past couple of weeks, Cliff Harris has been within a hair of breaking multiple returns for scores. With a second string quarterback in the game for Cal and the ability of Harris to take any kick back, look for Cliff to finally cash in and get back into the endzone this week.
Oregon Exclipses The 50 Point Mark Again
4 of 7
Many Duck fans were concerned about the slow start last week against the Huskies. Half way into the second quarter, the Ducks only had three points and still were able to get up and over the 50 point mark.
This week, the Ducks play a good Cal defense but the pace of Oregon will again be too much and will eventually lead to Cal wearing down and Oregon putting up more and more points.
Oregon Defense Generates Two or More Turnovers
5 of 7
While the Oregon defense had a solid outing against the Washington Huskies, they failed to force a turnover against a young quarterback. This week will be a different story.
Oregon will continue to turn up the heat on defense and continually blitz. Look for Oregon to force a couple turnovers and turn them into quick points.
Rob Beard Stays Perfect
6 of 7
One thing that could easily go overlooked this entire year is that Rob Beard is perfect on all extra points and field goals. While the Oregon offense certainly is explosive and does not rely on long field goal attempts, Beard has made every attempt count and will stay perfect through the tenth game of the year.
LaMichael James Puts Up Over 165 Yards
7 of 7
LaMichael James again found himself getting over the 100 yard mark last week and also added three scores for the Ducks. James finds himself in the thick of the Heisman race and will need to keep pace with Auburn's Cam Newton.
Look for James to get over 165 yards and at least two scores this week and keep his name in the top two for the Heisman.
