Tampa Bay Buccaneers Release Keydrick Vincent

Tom EdringtonOct 29, 2010

Can anyone be shocked that the Buccaneers bid adios to good old Keydrick Vincent, the free-agent guard who ended up guarding nothing much than the bench?

This was just another dose of castor oil for GM Mark Dominik, who has been such a whiz in free agency, that it's no wonder this team is so committed to the draft process.

Vincent was politely shown the door, most likely before Thursday's practice. You don't have the guy practice then cut him loose, do you? Or do you let him go through the motions then politely tell him that there's no seat on the plane to Arizona for him?

Whatever the choice, Vincent is gone but will still have the pleasure of collecting 10 more game checks.

Could anyone out there use an extra $62,500 per week for the next 10 weeks? Of course that's pre-tax so go ahead and figure the deduction before you decide if that's your cup of tea. Nice severance pay for Keydrick, who looked like a bargain at a cool million.

But this goes down as another lesson for Dominik that teams simply do not let good offensive linemen go until they've started showing signs of physical breakdown.

Vincent had those dreaded back spasms but now he can go get a massage every day for the next 10 weeks and not doubt he'll be feeling fine and dandy come Christmas.

On a more interesting note, we also find out that Jeremy Trueblood will not play on Sunday, which leads us to believe that there may be less bonehead penalties in this game against the Cardinals. James Lee will fill in and he should be just fine.

Ted Larsen will continue at the guard spot with Vincent now chowing down somewhere on meatball sandwiches. All this is also good news for Will Barker who can leave his practice squad buddies and join the official roster.

More good news is that perhaps Jeff Faine might return for the game in Atlanta in two weeks. You remember Faine, he's the strapping young lad the team gave a $12 million signing bonus as part of a six-year $37.5 million deal. He's collecting $5 million this year or a nifty $312,500 per game.

In the meantime, Jeremy Zuttah's done a decent job and if Faine comes back, he can return to his guard position.
