Nebraska Recruiting Wish List: Aaron Green Committed, Top Remaining Targets
Nebraska finally got its man in Aaron Green, the 5-star running back from Texas who headlines the Cornhuskers' 2011 recruiting class, but there's still work to be done.
With 15 prospects committed, Nebraska still has some holes to fill and is targeting a few specific athletes to fill those holes.
Most of the work on the offensive side of the ball is done, but with the 2011 class lacking on defense Nebraska will need to bring in one or two high-profile players to round out the talent base.
Here are the three uncommitted prospects Nebraska is going after the hardest, any or all of them could be lining up as Huskers next season.
Nebraska's Current 2011 Recruiting Class
1 of 4
5-Star Commitments: One
4-Star Commitments: Six
3-Star Commitments: Six
With Aaron Green on board, that's where things begin and end for the Cornhuskers, but he isn't going it alone out there.
Nebraska has a solid bunch of offensive lineman lined up with Ryne Reeves at center, Tyler Moore at tackle, and Ryan Klachko at guard. All three of them are rated in the top 10 at their respective positions.
Add in Bubba Starling and fellow 4-star quarterback Jamal Turner, and the Cornhuskers have some solid offensive pieces, but they're still lacking on the defensive side of the ball.
Ray Drew, DE
2 of 4
Drew isn't the type of player you need to worry about causing problems off the field. He's a hard-worker, a vocal player and a natural leader.
He'll step in from day one and grind it out at 100 percent from the minute the whistle is blown until the end of the day.
Drew is really an outside shot at the moment, with Florida State, Florida, Georgia, Alabama and Auburn presumed to be at the top of his list, but Nebraska is still in the mix as a possibility as well.
Wayne Lyons, S
3 of 4
At 6'1", 190 lbs, Lyons has a natural frame that makes him look more like a linebacker than a safety when he's got his pads on; he certainly hits like a linebacker.
He'll need to work on his backpedal and man-to-man coverage skills but the tools are there for him to develop into an outstanding playmaker. He's got a great pair of hands and is a very smart football player.
Lyons went from over 50 offers to 14 finalists and now is focused in on UCLA, Stanford, Michigan, Florida, Notre Dame and Nebraska. He's been to UCLA and Notre Dame already and will be in Lincoln for his next visit.
Cyrus Hobbi, OG
4 of 4
Hobbi is one of the top offensive guards in the country and has the versatility to play every interior line position. He's athletic, has great size at 6'3" and 285 lbs and has a great initial burst.
Some scouts see him as a center, but based on his ability to pull and reach the second and third level of contact guard might be better suited for his skill set.
Hobbi is probably the last offensive lineman Nebraska is targeting and the connection to the Cornhuskers is a strong one; they have to be considered the leader at this point.
