Manchester United: In a Roo-Turn, Wayne Rooney Signs a New Five-Year Deal
Manchester United striker Wayne Rooney performed a spectacular u-turn today by agreeing a new five-year deal at Old Trafford.
The 24-year-old said he wanted to leave United earlier this week, citing the club's lack of ambition, but it appears crisis talks with Sir Alex Ferguson have brought about a dramatic change of heart.
Rooney's comments prompted an angry protest outside by United fans outside his house last night, with some fearing he could complete the ultimate betrayal by joining Manchester City.

But the England striker reversed his decision after talks with United executives and his manager, and has now committed himself to United until 2015.
"I said on Wednesday the manager's a genius and it's his belief and support that convinced me to stay," Rooney said.
"I'm delighted to sign another deal at United. I've spoken to the manager and the owners and they've convinced me this where I belong.
"I am signing a new deal in the absolute belief that the management, coaching staff, board and owners are totally committed to making sure United maintains its proud winning history - which is the reason I joined the club in the first place."
Ferguson said of Rooney's new deal: "Sometimes, when you're in a club, it can be hard to realise just how big it is and it takes something like the events of the last few days to make you understand.
"I think Wayne now understands what a great club Manchester United is."
