BCS Bowl Predictions Heading Into Week 8
Current shake-ups in the college football season are plentiful as some of the top tier teams lost big games in week seven. All the uncertainty is leaving fans bewildered as to where exactly their teams are going to be heading come bowl season. Well here are some predictions for the BCS games...
The National Championship
1 of 5
Oklahoma vs. Oregon
Criteria- BCS #1 vs. BCS #2
Why Oklahoma? Oklahoma has managed to fly under the radar so far this year, but with impressive wins over Florida State, Air Force and on the road at Cincinnati, the BCS is giving them love by ranking them number one in the first official polls. The rest of the Sooner's road is manageable, with games at Missouri and Oklahoma State being the most difficult; it looks like Bob Stoops can start mapping his route to Glendale on January tenth.
Why Oregon? Oregon manhandled Tennessee in Neyland Stadium and also won a big shootout with Pac-10 rival Stanford. Oregon's path is much more difficult than Oklahoma's, with games at USC and the always pesky Oregon State. It is much more of a long shot that Oregon goes undefeated. However, they do get the luxury of facing off with Washington and Arizona in Autzen. With quarterback Darron Thomas playing well and the offense surging, Oregon can lower its shoulder to make it to the championship game.
Fiesta Bowl
2 of 5
Nebraska vs. Auburn
Criteria- Big-12 Champ vs. At-Large
Why Nebraska? The Big-12 Champion will play in the National Championship game so the BCS will most likely take a one loss runner up, Nebraska. With impressive wins over Washington and Kansas State they will finish with just the slip up to Texas, they should be able to beat Oklahoma State and Missouri with their impressive defense.
Why Auburn? The one loss team from the SEC (assuming they lose to Alabama) has a difficult schedule to play still, if they lose more than one then this spot could belong to LSU. Either way this spot should go to the runner up of the SEC.
Sugar Bowl
3 of 5
Alabama vs. Michigan State
Criteria- SEC Champ vs. At-Large
Why Alabama? The loss to South Carolina proved fatal to Alabama's chances of a repeat if there are still undefeated teams at the end of the season. Nonetheless, they should be able to win out the rest of their games, they just have too much talent for teams like LSU and Auburn. An SEC title will land the Crimson Tide in the Sugar Bowl.
Why Michigan State? The Big Ten has done it again, with what seems like an awful flaw in scheduling, Michigan State does not have to play Ohio State this season. The Spartans are off to a 7-0 start but will lose in week nine in Iowa City. So with no Big Ten title, a Rose Bowl is out of the picture and a one loss Spartan team plays in the Sugar Bowl.
Orange Bowl
4 of 5
Florida State vs. West Virginia
Criteria- ACC Champ vs. At-Large
Why Florida State? After the beating at Oklahoma there seems to be new life in the Seminoles team. They have control in the ACC and are certainly looking like the team to beat, ever since losing to the Sooners, they have beaten opponents 199-60, including a 45-17 routing of ranked rival Miami. If they can win out in what is a down year for the ACC then they will make it to the Orange Bowl.
Why West Virginia? As long as West Virginia doesn't lose another game then the Big East champ should be a safe pick for an at-large bid. But with no wins over a ranked team so far they cannot afford to lose another game or else this spot could be taken by TCU.
Rose Bowl
5 of 5
Iowa vs. Boise State
Criteria- Big Ten Champ vs. Pac-10 Champ
Why Iowa? With the remaining difficult games for the Hawkeyes at home, they are the favorite to win the Big Ten. Wisconsin, Michigan State and Ohio State all will travel to Kinnick and they underachieving Hawkeyes are good enough to beat all of them which will land them in the Rose Bowl.
Why Boise State? Once again, Boise State will be left out of the National Championship game to two teams from automatic qualifying conferences. With the Pac-10 champ (Oregon) going to the championship game, Boise State will get the first at-large pick.
