Philadelphia Sports: I'll Have a Three Scoop Sunday

Dan PennwynOct 18, 2010

Dear Philadelphia sports fans, it's time to gloat just a little bit here, bask in our little moment of glory as we the fans have much to be excited about after all the great wins, and losses, that we had for our viewing pleasure.

I will stick to the sequence of events as they occurred which means we shall start off with the Philadelphia Eagles "unexpected" man handling of the Atlanta Falcons.

31-17 was the end result of a game that showcased two spectacular wide receivers in third year man DeSean Jackson and second year man Jeremy Maclin.

Jackson took control of the game early in the first quarter and posted two touchdowns, the first was a fake handoff (LeSean McCoy) end route to Jackson who then tore off his first 30 plus yard TD.

The second came off a beautiful Kevin Kolb pass deep down the middle of the field to hit No. 10 in the end zone.

Then disaster struck!

On a short pattern pass to Jackson, Falcons CB Dunta Robinson blasted the Eagles star wide out after the ball was clearly no longer in his hands and it was obvious what had happened, however the extent was unknown.

Well gang, we now know that WR DeSean Jackson did in fact suffer a severe concussion but it only got worse as reports of him having memory loss broke late last night.

We all wish him the best, and being that it's his second concussion at such an early point in his career, I hope this doesn't prove to be career ending for his sake. Above that I just hope there isn't any long term damage and he can bounce back in a few weeks.

Yes, I don't think he should start again until after the bye week at the very earliest, if he can even come back that soon.

Until then, we hope to get rookie WR Riley Cooper—who was also out of yesterday's game due to a concussion he received last week—back and Jason "The Taxpayer" Avant to step up in Jackson's absence.

However, the Eagles did finish strong enough to come out with a dubya!

Following that game the Dallas Cowboys headed North to take on the Minnesota Vikings and lost by a field goal, but there was nothing better than seeing Cowboys QB Tony Romo's facial frustration.

Ah yes, life can be good—the Birds are 4-2 and tied in the division with the Giants and Dallas is at the bottom of the food chain at 1-4.

C'mon Eagles fans, say it with me, HOW BOUT DEM COWBOYS!

Then beginning promptly at 8:00 pm EST, the Philadelphia Phillies started applying the icing to our Philly cake.

They got off to a slow start but in the end it was a game that had the Phils tying the series at one a piece in a 6-1 stomping of the San Francisco Giants.

If you were fortunate enough to attend one of the games yesterday, I hope you had a blast. If you were LUCKY enough to get to both of the games you BETTER have had a blast!

As the great TV show title says, "It's Always Sunny In Philadelphia," and yesterday was one of the brightest days in a long time, with the notable exception of No. 10 Action Jackson
