College Football Week 7 Viewing Guide: 5 Must Watch Games
Week 7 of the college football season is upon us. As we pass the halfway mark of the season, a first glance at the slate of games this Saturday may elicit nothing more than a yawn from the casual fan.
With only two match ups featuring a clash of ranked opponents, it may seem difficult to find games that will be compelling enough to be called "must watch."
However, many games this weekend will have Heisman Trophy as well as National Championship implications. Players like Denard Robinson and Terrelle Pryor are in action and looking to cement themselves as a favorite, while teams like Auburn and Nebraska need to stay on top of their games to continue a run at Glendale.
Here are my five must watch games for Week 7.
Texas Longhorns at No. 5 Nebraska Cornhuskers
1 of 5
Time: 3:30 P.M. ET
TV: ABC/ESPN
This match up features two perennial Big 12 powerhouses doing battle in Lincoln. While Texas is having somewhat of an off year, Nebraska is having a great year thus far as a Top Five team.
Taylor Martinez is certainly a player to watch in this game. With 241 rushing yards last week on national television against the Kansas State Wildcats, he burst onto the scene in a big way as a Heisman Trophy candidate.
Aside from all that, it's clear that Nebraska will be out for blood as they are still seeking revenge for its crushing Big 12 Championship game loss at the hands of the Longhorns last year.
This is going to be a hard-fought, intense game that is sure to be exciting.
No. 12 Arkansas Razorbacks at No. 7 Auburn Tigers
2 of 5
Time: 3:30 P.M. ET
TV: CBS
In this battle between the hedges deep in the heart of SEC country, two of the best quarterbacks in the conference are going head to head in a game that has national title implications.
The undefeated Tigers and quarterback Cameron Newton are looking to stay hot as they welcome Ryan Mallet and his Razorback offense to town in one of only two match ups featuring ranked opponents this week.
Auburn features the eighth best rushing attack in the country, and Arkansas has the third best passing attack in the nation. With a game time forecast of 75 and sunny, expect a high scoring, fast paced game.
No. 15 Iowa Hawkeyes at Michigan Wolverines
3 of 5
Time: 3:30 P.M. ET
TV: ABC/ESPN
The Hawkeyes visit the Big House to take on Denard Robinson and his electrifying Wolverine running attack. While neither of these teams can be called National Championship contenders, there is a lot to watch for in this match up.
Big Ten games are always extremely physical affairs, and it will be interesting to see how Robinson reacts to facing one of the best defensive lines in the country.
Can Ricky Stanzi lead his team into the Ann Arbor and pull off a win? Big Ten Championship dreams are at stake in this must watch game.
Brigham Young Cougars at No. 4 TCU Horned Frogs
4 of 5
Time: 4:00 P.M. ET
TV: Versus
On paper, this game looks to be yet another one of TCU's easy games in which they roll by 30 or more points.
In the words of Lee Corso; not so fast, my friends.
While quarterback Andy Dalton and running back Ed Wesley have been putting up some unbelievable numbers at their respective positions, BYU will not go down easy.
Since the start of 2006, TCU is 45-9 in the regular season. Of those nine losses, five have come at the hands of teams hailing from the state of Utah.
BYU will get up for this game, and don't be surprised if the No. 4 team in the country is knocked off.
No. 1 Ohio State Buckeyes at No. 18 Wisconsin Badgers
5 of 5
Time: 7:00 P.M. ET
TV: ESPN
The prime time game of the week brings us to Madison, WI, for a match up with Heisman Trophy, Big Ten Championship, and National Championship implications. This game has it all.
This will be Ohio State's first true test of the season as they have played largely a cupcake schedule thus far in the season.
Madison is a tough place to play with one of the most notoriously rowdy student sections in the country. With a 7:00 p.m. ET start, expect the fans to be even rowdier.
Expect a physical, bruising, conservative battle between two of the toughest teams in college football. A far cry from the speed game of the SEC, Big Ten football is always about toughness. This game is definitely a must watch.
