SEC Football Week 6: Who's HOT and Who's NOT In The SEC This Week
The ground was shaking all over the Southeast this past weekend.
Big games coming down to the wire, upsets and blowouts, the SEC had it all in an incredible week of football. This week showed why the SEC is still the top conference in all the land.
Let's look at the highs and lows from this past weekend and see who's HOT and who's NOT this week in the SEC.
SIZZLIN'
Stephan Garcia - QB - South Carolina
The Gamecock's quarterback lit up the night in Columbia throwing for three touchdowns on 17-of-20 attempts. Garcia's efforts led South Carolina to a stunning 35-21 upset of the No. 1 ranked Alabama Crimson Tide.
Alshon Jeffery - WR - South Carolina
Jeffery was on the receiving end of two touchdown passes and caught seven passes for 127 yards.
Steve Spurrier - Head Coach - South Carolina
The Ol' Ball Coach showed he still has what it takes in the SEC, leading the Gamecocks to the biggest upset win in Carolina football history.
Cam Newton - QB - Auburn
Newton's amazing season continued in 37-34 thrilling victory at Kentucky. Newton threw for 210 yards on 13-of-21 pass attempts and rushed for 198 yards and four touchdowns. Do I hear SEC Player of the Year?
Vick Ballard - RB - Mississippi State
Ballard again led the way, rushing for 134 yards on 14 carries and three touchdowns, in State's blowout win over Houston, 47-24.
Ryan Mallet - QB - Arkansas
The Razorback's signal-caller was 27-of-38 passing for 310 yards and three touchdowns in thrilling 24-17 victory over Texas A&M.
Greg McElroy - QB - Alabama
McElroy was outstanding in a losing effort at South Carolina, completing 27-of-34 for 315 yards and two touchdowns.
Tramain Thomas - S - Arkansas
Thomas had seven tackles, two fumble recoveries, and the interception in the endzone to seal the victory over the Aggies.
Aaron Murray - QB - Georgia
Murray was 17-of-25 passing for 266 yards and two touchdowns in 41-14 trashing of the Vols. The Georgia QB also ran for two scores, including a 35-yarder in the first quarter.
WARMIN' UP
Marcus Lattimore - RB - South Carolina
I know, I know, this makes four Gamecocks on the list, but it was a win over No. 1 Alabama. Lattimore carried 23 times for 93 yards and two touchdowns. He also caught a touchdown pass, giving him three on the day.
Julio Jones - WR - Alabama
Jones was awesome in a losing-effort at South Carolina, catching eight passes for 118 yards and a touchdown.
Randall Cobb - WR - Kentucky
Cobb caught two touchdown passes and ran for another score in loss to Auburn. He also returned three kicks for 87 yards.
Larry Smith - QB - Vanderbilt
Commodores quarterback passed for 253 yards and two touchdowns on 16-of-27 attempts in 52-6 romp over Eastern Michigan.
Les Miles - Head Coach - LSU
Maligned coach of 6-0 Tigers pulled magic out of his hat once again. The fake field goal play was one of the craziest and luckiest football plays that you will ever see....but it worked. The play enable LSU to gain a first down en route to the dramatic game-winning touchdown with only six seconds remaining to beat Florida, 33-29.
Terrence Tolliver - WR - LSU
Tolliver caught six passes for 111 yards and two touchdowns, including the game-winner with six seconds left in win over the Gators.
NOT SO HOT
Mark Ingram - RB - Alabama
South Carolina limited Ingram to just 41 yards on 11 carries Saturday night in Columbia.
Trent Richardson - RB - Alabama
Like Ingram, Richardson couldn't get going. He had six carries for only 23 yards.
Urban Meyer - Head Coach - Florida
When you get outfoxed by "The Hat" you have to make the list. Meyer's offense continues to struggle as the Gators fall to 4-2.
CHILLIN'
Derek Dooley - Head Coach - Tennessee
It's lonely at the bottom this week as the Vols fall to 2-4 after their humiliating loss in Athens. Deep freeze may grip Tennessee through the rest of October as Alabama comes to Knoxville on the 23rd and the Vols must travel to South Carolina to close out the month.
The SEC has named its Football Players of the Week.
