College Football Rankings: Week 6 SEC Power Rankings—Who Is Better Than Who?
South Carolina exposed the biggest fraud in college football—the Alabama Crimson Tide. They also exposed most of the SEC as a giant pile of overrated garbage.
The Gamecocks also made a major statement: This team is the favorite to win the East and, in my opinion, the favorite to win the whole ball of wax. If the dominoes fall in the right directions, Carolina may play for not just the SEC title, but the national title as well.
Since it's pretty evident I love the Gamecocks, how do I feel about everyone else? Well, why don't we get to that right now?
No. 1 Auburn Tigers 6-0 (3-0)
1 of 12
My BCSFP Rank: No. 5
Last Result: 37-34 Win at Kentucky
Because Auburn beat Carolina and is undefeated, I have to put the Tigers at No. 1, but I think if they played again next weekend, Carolina would win.
Carolina has to be kicking itself over those fourth quarter miscues, as they may end up costing USC a national title.
Carolina should be No. 1, but until Auburn goes down in the SEC title rematch, they will hold the top spot unless they stub their toe against Arkansas, LSU or Alabama.

No. 2 South Carolina Gamecocks 4-1 (2-1)
2 of 12
My BCSFP Rank: No. 8
Last Result: 35-21 Win vs. No. 1 Alabama
Seriously, how can you not drink the USC kool-aid? They just put a good ole country boy butt whippin' on Alabama. These chickens certainly didn't lay any eggs Saturday.
If they can avoid a late-season collapse, the Ole Ball Coach will find himself in a familiar yet lonely spot: the top of the SEC.
Up Next: at Kentucky
No. 3 Alabama Crimson Tide 5-1 (2-1)
3 of 12
Ranking: No. 9
Last Result: 35-21 Loss at No. 18 South Carolina
Alabama was proven to be overrated. They got whipped by Carolina, and the SEC's current genius was out-coached by a genius from the past. Alabama was not a champion, and they were not even close to the standard Nick Saban preaches about.
If Alabama wants to avoid disappointment this season, they need help and must fix some big defensive issues.
Right now, I do not think they will even get a rematch with Steve Spurrier. This team is destined for a 10-2 bust of a season—which, of course, is only a bust by Alabama standards.
Up Next: vs. Ole Miss
No. 4 LSU Tigers 6-0 (4-0)
4 of 12
BCSFP Rank: No. 10
Last Result: 32-29 Win at No. 14 Florida
LSU finally seemed to get some offense together. This team would be higher if their coach wasn't insane and if they had shown more consistency earlier in the season.
LSU could surprise us and win it all, but I think that they will end up with two losses to a couple of teams from the Yellow Hammer State.
Up Next: Some crappy FCS team I have never heard of.
No. 5 Arkansas Razorbacks 4-1 (1-1)
5 of 12
Ranking: No. 13
Last Result: 24-17 Win vs. Texas A&M
Arkansas might be as good as they looked for a half against Alabama, or they are just as overrated as everyone else in the SEC (except the Roosters and the Fighting Cam Newtons).
They have the talent, but it is a matter of growing up and executing when they have to.
They face a stiff test this week as they visit Heisman Newton and Friends.
Up Next: at No. 5 Auburn
No. 6 Florida Gators 4-2 (2-2)
6 of 12
Ranking: No. 23
Last Result: 32-29 Loss vs. No. 19 LSU
Of all of our wonderful overrated piles of garbage in the SEC, Florida takes the cake for biggest overrated pile of garbage (not counting Georgia because I didn't think much of them anyway).
Florida got dominated by an overrated Alabama squad and then lost to Les Miles' magic.
This team will lose at least one more game to its former super coach, but it may get worse than that next week. The Gators better be ready for former offensive brainchild Dan Mullen and his scrappy Bulldogs from Bell Ringing Country.
Up Next: vs. Mississippi State
No. 7 Mississippi State Bulldogs 4-2 (1-2)
7 of 12
Last Result: 47-24 Win at Houston
Here's the most underrated team in the SEC this year. They lost a close one at home to Auburn and would have had a great chance to beat LSU had they not shot themselves in the foot with five turnovers.
They have a great chance to make a statement in the Swamp this weekend. If they beat Florida, UAB and Kentucky, State will find themselves somewhere they have not been in a while. That would put them in a Top 25 showdown with Alabama.
Up Next: at No. 23 Florida
No. 8 Georgia Bulldogs 2-4 (1-3)
8 of 12
Last Result: 41-14 Win vs. Tennessee
Georgia gets put ahead of Ole Miss because their embarrassing loss to Colorado is nothing compared to losses to JSU and Vandy.
The Dogs might actually get on a mini-roll with their upcoming schedule. With games against Vandy, Kentucky, Idaho State and Georgia Tech, Georgia should be able to reach a bowl game now that they have their head on straight.
Up Next: vs. Vanderbilt
No. 9 Ole Miss Rebels 3-2 (1-1)
9 of 12
Last Result: Bye Week
It's not how you start—it's how you finish. That is the Rebels' new motto.
They may have looked piss-poor against JSU and Vandy, but they have rebounded well, getting wins against Kentucky and Fresno State. Too bad for them that they only have two more wins left on their schedule.
Up Next: at No. 9 Alabama
No. 10 Vanderbilt Commodores 2-3 (1-1)
10 of 12
Last Result: 52-6 Win vs. Eastern Michigan
Well, they still stink, but they are not as bad as the 2009 edition. Vandy does have an SEC victory, and that is why they are ahead of a couple of teams, but a blowout loss to UConn has them behind the team they beat.
Up Next: at Georgia
No. 11 Tennessee Volunteers 2-4 (0-3)
11 of 12
Last Result: 41-14 Loss vs. Georgia
Tennessee has looked okay at times and awful at others. I really cannot explain my decision to put them ahead of Kentucky, but there really is not a reason to rank them either way.
I'll stick the Vols here because they are not Kentucky in a historic sense. It may not make much sense, but what kind of argument can I make for Kentucky?
Up Next: Bye Week (code for we play Alabama next and want to postpone the butt whippin')
No. 12 Kentucky Wildcats 3-3 (0-3)
12 of 12
Last Result: 37-34 Loss vs. Auburn
Well, the bright side is they beat Louisville and almost beat Auburn, whatever that means. Too bad this ain't horseshoes.
For the first time since 2005 the Cats will not reach the postseason. That has to be a sad thought for Kentucky fans everywhere.
Up Next: vs. No. 8 South Carolina
