Randy Moss' Top Ten Career Highlights
The NFL has never seen an athlete as complex and extraordinary as Randy Moss. Coming out of a small school like Marshall, Moss was ready for the leap to the NFL from the jump. Moss, along with Chad Pennington, helped put Marshall on the map. What he didn't know then was that he would one day help form the term "diva receiver."
Moss' signature moments will be cherished by Minnesota and New England fans forever. Moss became one of the game's most dangerous deep threats in Minnesota. The Metrodome turf worked perfectly for Moss and QB Dante Culpepper. Though, there was nothing memorable about his Oakland adventure, Moss rediscovered himself in Foxboro with Bill Belichick.
Throughout this time, there have been many highlights and low-lights of Randy Moss. One thing is for sure though, he will go down as the top receiver of the post-Rice Era.
We recognize some of his career highlights in the following piece:
10. "Straight Cash Homie."
1 of 10Randy Moss is so good that simply walking to his car can be a highlight in itself. During the 2005 off-season, Moss was being questioned by some reporters and suddenly an amazing soundbite came about.
In regards to his latest fine, the reporter asked Moss "How do you pay these guys?"
Moss abruptly responded: "Straight Cash Homey." Then followed up with a question of his own. "What's 10 Grand, to me?" Well, as well all know, this statement was too good for any response.
9. I Wanna Be a Cowboy
2 of 10
When Randy Moss was first drafted by the Minnesota Vikings his heart was elsewhere. Though happy to be a Viking, Moss really wanted to be a Dallas Cowboy. Moss felt as if the Cowboys, his child-hood team, had slighted him. This only made him hungrier when facing Dallas. Mistake for Jerry Jones.
Ever since that Draft Day in 1998, Moss has made it his duty to show the Cowboys what they had passed on. He always seems to have a little more "oomph" when facing them. Throughout his career, Moss has created his own personal highlight reel against Dallas. Pretty certain they missed out on this outstanding talent.
8. "That Is a Disgusting Act by Randy Moss."
3 of 10In the 1st Round of the 2005 NFC Playoffs Randy Moss did the unthinkable at The Frozen Tundra. Moss, then a Viking, after a TD that sealed the game, jokingly pantsed the Lambeau crowd.
It's safe to say that Moss will forever be one of the most hated players in Green Bay. Mentioning his name, along with that of Brett Favre, will be an unpardonable act.
This only added to the Randy Moss Saga as his brash style was even more apparent. No one can take away from the fact that Moss is among the elite even to this day.
7. Moss Burns Revis One-on-One
4 of 10Throughout the week there was much bickering occurring between Moss and New York Jets CB Darelle Revis. This came to a halt on the 2nd week of the 2010 season. On this day, Randy Moss showed why no one can cover him man-on-man, not even the game's best.
Moss' one-handed grab at the New Meadowlands was spectacular. When you add in the fact that Revis is the NFL's best cover man since Deion Sanders, it's even more impressive. This may be one of the last highlights of the Moss-Brady Duo with Moss possibly heading back to Minnesota.
Guess the "slouch" won this battle.
6. Trouble With The Law
5 of 10
Randy Moss is in fact no stranger to the law. This was what put him in Marshall instead of Notre Dame or Florida St. and ultimately what made many NFL teams pass him in the draft. Moss' talent is unquestionable, but often times the problems he brings outweigh that.
Moss has been the best receiver over the past decade and is one of the top bad boys as well. This may not have helped his reputation, but no one is ever free to question what he brings to the field on Sundays.
From comments about Marshall's 1970 plane crash to his "once in a blue moon" marijuana use, Moss has done it all and then some.
5. Brady-to-Moss
6 of 10Over the past few years, Randy Moss found comfort in New England QB Tom Brady. Their partnership was obvious from the beginning as together they made 2007 the most memorable season in recent memory.
Tom Brady, who had a record-setting season too, found Moss an astonishing 23 times in the end-zone that season. The dynamic duo struck for 39 TD's during Moss' career as a Patriot. Remember too that Brady missed the entire 2008 season, with the exception of one quarter.
These two even fueled the Patriots to an undefeated record and were one of the best QB-WR tandems we've seen over such a short period. Will Moss now be able to work the same magic with Brett Favre?
4. Returning Home
7 of 10Randy Moss will now be returning to Minnesota, the team that didn't pass up on him on Draft Day 1998. They were the only team willing to take him on, even with his off-the-field issues. Moss now pairs with Brett Favre and Adrian Peterson to help lead the Vikings.
There will be some interesting match-ups for Moss throughout the rest of the season. His return to Lambeau field is sure to catch headlines everywhere.
Once again, as they did 12 years ago, the Vikings will gamble on Moss, though this time at age 33. Should be interesting to see how this plays out.
3. Pro Bowl MVP
8 of 10
Randy Moss has been to seven Pro Bowls throughout his illustrious career. Though none were more of a highlight reel than the one in 2000. In this game, Moss led Team NFC to victory with 9 catches for 212 yards and 1 TD.
This record-setting performance in Honolulu will be remembered forever. Moss' Pro Bowl reign(7) shows consistency and the fact that his hands are among the best of all-time.
2. Rookie Sensation
9 of 10Randy Moss as a rookie was on a complete different level than all others. Even in his 1998 rookie season, Moss was among the best in the sport. His 69 grabs for 1,313 yards and 17 TD's set the standard for rookie wide-outs.
This memorable season, which saw the Vikings go 15-1 was characterized by Moss and QB Dante Culpepper. They were the most dynamic duo in the NFL at one point, people may forget this now, but everywhere Moss has gone, he seems to make his quarterback better. That is of course if he's out of trouble.
1. Record Breaker
10 of 10Randy Moss and Tom Brady shattered records together in 2008, albeit in a losing Super Bowl effort. Their undefeated regular season was the most dominant of all-time. This record-breaking snag against the New York Giants in the season finale was something remarkable.
Moss had passed Jerry Rice with 23 TD's in one season and in the same pass, Brady overtook Peyton Manning for the passing TD single-season crown. This was one of the most important plays in NFL history and was one for the ages. Watch and admire.
