The Bottom Line: Week 5 NCAA Football
Michigan State is definitely one of the feel-good stories of the year in college football.
After that gutsy fake field goal call against Notre Dame a few weeks back, the Spartans have continued to roll to two more victories.
They now stand at 5-0 and have won the last two games with their head coach Mark Dantonio in the hospital.
As many of you know, Dantonio suffered a heart attack just hours after the Spartans' dramatic win over the Fighting Irish. He is recovering after doctors put a stent in an artery near his heart.
While he can’t be on the field with his team, they continue to impress analysts across the nation. This week they upended No. 11 Wisconsin 34-24 as the Spartans improved to 5-0 this season. The Spartans moved up the rankings to No. 17 in the nation and have another tough test as they visit Ann Arbor to battle against the No. 18 Michigan Wolverines.
If the Spartans take care of business next week and capture their sixth win, the sky is the limit for this surprising team.
The Bottom Line is that these Spartans are special and determined to play in honor of their coach; if the Spartans defeat Michigan this week and Iowa on October 30th, they have a chance to make some real noise in the BCS bowl games.
After watching that Alabama-Florida game, all I can say is: Wow. The Crimson Tide looks almost unbeatable this year. The running game is unstoppable, and their young defense is turning the corner and becoming one of the best in college football this season.
Mark Ingram and Trent Richardson combined for 110 yards on the ground and two TDs as they continued to punish defenders with their power running styles. Greg McElroy went back to being a game-managing quarterback after the scare they had in Fayetteville last Saturday.
The Alabama offense sure does look good, but their defense looks just as impressive. After picking off the nation’s top passer (Ryan Mallett) three times last week, the defense picked off Florida three times this week, and one was returned for a TD. Granted, Florida’s playmaker Jeffrey Demps was banged up and unable to contribute much this game.
In the midst of the three-game gauntlet, the Crimson Tide is 2-0 and shows no signs of slowing down.
The Bottom Line is that the Crimson Tide look impressive, and even if they manage to lose one game this season, they deserve a spot in the national title game.
LSU was lucky to stay unbeaten after that close call against Tennessee. If it wasn’t for a brain fart by the Volunteers, the Tigers would have an embarrassing upset on their hands at home.
The Tigers offense made plenty of mistakes, and if it weren’t for backup quarterback Jarrett Lee, the Tigers surely would’ve been in trouble. After Jordan Jefferson completed almost as many passes to the Vols as to his own team (2:3 respectively), Lee was able to come into the game and lead the Tigers down the field. Lee finished 16-of-23, 185 yards, one INT and led the Tigers for most of the final game-winning drive.
The Bottom Line is that the Tigers have some work to do, as they don’t look too intimidating anymore as they were almost beaten at home by a subpar SEC opponent.
This is just an opinion...so please Pardon My Bias.
