EPL Players of the Month: Berbatov, Tevez, and More
The second month of the Premier League season has drawn to a close and as ever there have been some standout individual performances.
So, here's my list of the top-five Premier League players of the month. There have been plenty of excellent performances and this is only my opinion, anyone who has a different opinion, feel free to comment.
Michael Essien
1 of 5
Chelsea's influential midfielder has prevented a void from forming in the absence of Frank Lampard. He has capped off some fine performances with three goals in September, including two goals in Chelsea's 3-1 victory over West Ham.
A versatile player, Essien seems to have endless stores of energy and sets an example by being absolutely everywhere. The rest of Chelsea's players will need to follow his example if they are to retain their Premier League crown in a competition that could be more competitive than it has been in years.
Carlos Tevez
2 of 5
Manchester City's captain scored a vital winner against Chelsea, ending the London club's 100 percent record in the process.
Aside from that vital goal, Tevez was also central to City's 2-0 win against Wigan, scoring one and creating plenty of chances. Tevez has contributed five goals in seven matches so far this season and has shown no signs of stopping; he scored an emphatic penalty against Newcastle last weekend.
City currently lie second in the table and will be hoping to challenge for the title. If they are to do that, Carlos Tevez will have to lead the way. So far he's doing just that.
Gareth Bale
3 of 5
Tottenham's Welsh left back/left midfielder has really come into his own this season. He had an incredible August, scoring two goals in the Premier League, as well as setting up all four goals in a 4-0 win in the Champions League.
Bale wasn't as prolific in September, but he has continued to perform at a very high level, to the extent that he is now subject to rumours that both Manchester United and Real Madrid are interested in the 21-year-old. United are believed to have wanted to sign Bale for £20 million in the summer, but Bale wasn't interested. Mourinho now also appears to be interested in Bale as a replacement for Marcelo.
If Gareth Bale can keep playing as well as he is, a move to one of the world's biggest clubs may well be an option.
Darren Bent
4 of 5
Sunderland and England striker, Darren Bent, has put in some impressive displays this month as Sunderland have gone on an unbeaten but draw filled run.
Three Premier League goals in as many games during September have earned Darren Bent his place on the list. A last gasp equaliser against Arsenal followed by an important brace against a struggling Liverpool mean that not only has Bent been prolific, he's also been scoring when it is needed—his goals haven't come in games Sunderland where already dominating.
Dimitar Berbatov
5 of 5
Manchester United's Bulgarian striker had only shown glimpses of what he was capable of before this season. Six league goals in seven appearances this season suggest that Berbatov has found the same form he showed at Spurs.
September was a particularly prolific month for the striker. He scored United's third against rivals Everton, before completing a match winning hat trick against Liverpool.
Berbatov's form couldn't have come at a better time; Wayne Rooney has been out of sorts this season and United will need Berbatov to continue scoring, especially considering the points United have been dropping away from home.
